Is it recommended to play BOTW before starting to play TOTK (in terms of storytelling)?

Watch a recap of the first game and just play ToTK. You will easily get burnt out playing both. :rip: ToTK to me felt like the same game with $70 expansion pass.

The stories aren’t very connected, infact a lot of the botw stuff isn’t mentioned or it’s absence isn’t explained which is odd. I’d play botw first however as it’s good to get to know the map when it was a bit more exciting.

After two months I finally completed the game. I had to take a few breaks in between. While the game was not bad by any means, it just didn't quite live up to the hype. I preferred BotW, everything felt new and there was so much to discover. TotK felt like the same thing all over again. Sure, there was a lot of content, but it was nothing I haven't seen before. The cutscenes were nice, the new abilities were a cool idea and the final battle was fun, but other than that it felt like any other AAA game and not one that particularly appealed to me. Even with the added depths, sky islands, caves and wells it wasn't enough to get me excited. Once you see one cave or visit one sky island you've seen them all. An entirely new map, different enemies and a different story structure with the sages probably would have fixed most of my issues with the game because it really was all just recycled from BotW.

I know I'm late but I finished the water temple. What in Mario Sunshine was that boss? :deadbanana2:

I beated Ganondorf, got all the final cinematics, and boom, back to the main menu and my last save.

Nothing changes, except the fact that a star appears on my last save, and I have my progression of the game (43% lol)

Is that... it ?

yeah, it was the same in BotW. i'm not TOO miffed abt there being no proper "postgame", i just wish there was a way for the final main quests (defeat ganondorf, and find princess zelda) to STAY crossed out :gaycat6:

Just bought the game and finished the second shrine. I feel like im still very much at the beginning where ur introduced to the world, especially since Im.obviously still at 3 hearts which means i havent made any real progress so far. The game is insanely expansive and I love the way its actually a game that requires wit.

I'm so behind but I've played for 115 hours and I'm not even at the 1st temple yet. I'm close tho:jonny2:

I haven't found anything too difficult yet. I have 7 hearts and beat 2 Lynels which I struggled with in BOTW. I never have a problem with running out of items. I usually have about 500+ arrows. There are multiple hints at how to proceed with the story which I appreciate. The world is so huge and overwhelming at times but I'm taking one area at a time.

And I'm still waiting on my TOTK guidebook. Amazon hasn't shipped it yet :rip:

That temple was a disaster. Not fun and satisfying to complete at all. And just wait till you get to the boss.

I wonder when we’ll get a dlc, although I wasn’t overly impressed with the botw ones it would be good to get some more content. I’d love to see a return of the guardians and maybe something a bit more to do in the depths since it’s so sparse….or maybe more sky islands…as underwhelming as most of them are.

Yuh. I'm shocked every time I see people slate it on here or Twitter. Just keep following the rails, girls!

Now, the Wind Temple? Boring af... and the Water Temple has some ok puzzles marred by a really boring look/disappointing presentation.

Fire/Lightning supremacy.

Finally beat the story of the game. An amazing game from start to finish. I’ve spent more than 100 hours playing it and I can’t wait to play and explore more of the world.

The Legend of Zelda remains one of the best game series in history. I can’t wait to see what the hell Nintendo does next with this series.

70 Days since TOTK, & she's faded a lot more that BOTW :sistrens:

6 years on Ultrahand, & yet i don't see those viral physics interactions self promo'ing TOTK, like BOTW did.

I agree with so many things in these 2 videos (except that they both think TOTK Shrines > BOTW)

Good thing you bumped this thread because I just found out just now in the guide that the old lady in the field in Hateno can grow plants and veg for you if you further the school quest :shakeno: ... I wish I had known that earlier

Also I underestimated how respectful and nice the Zelda community is, I wanna give them a shoutout. I'm currently deep into FF16 and I got spoiled tons of stuff while being on social media in the last month, like almost everything. While I didn't get spoiled much about ToTk during the month I played it, and I was everywhere online.

Hell I was even shocked when I got 5th sage ability and did that whole main quest, I had no idea there was the equivalent of a 5th temple (construct factory) or even Mineru's robot :dies:  so much stuff was still a surprise to me, a month after it was released. The Zelda community be gatekeeping to a whole new level.

Talking about the 5th sage, I have my nephew and a friend who finished the game not long ago and they both skipped the "Ring Ruins" quest. :deadbanana:Either it's a coincidence or the game does a bad job guiding you back to Kakariko, I feel like so many people went straight to "thunderhead island" to get mineru's helm. I mean it also happened to me but much earlier in the game, i couldn't progress there at that point.

Seeing that part with the mineru robot literally made my blood boil again like when I played it myself :rip:

There are SO many Side Quests in this game, oh my God :chick3:

Literally went back to finish the 10 quests I had left in BoTW so I could pause on ToTK for a bit.

I’ve gone back to botw for a replay, for me it’s definitely superior to totk, although the latter is still really good. I know we’re probably another 5 years minimum from the next game but there needs to be a new map, the sky and depths added very little and there wasn’t enough difference on the main map to make it exciting again.
