What made Breath Of The Wild special to all of us is that they broke conventions but kept some elements from the The Legend Of Zelda franchise. They kept what made it recognizable and iconic. We all enjoyed discovering this huge world, the towns, the secrets but Tears Of The Kingdom does not renew the experience. The most important aspect of BOTW, the exploration, is the biggest weakness of Tears in my opinion. Many of us already know this Hyrule by heart and it has not changed much. We know where we're going. We know the whole map. We know the towns and the inhabitants. We know what kind of elements and ennemis we're going to find. We know how to interact with them. Nothing really feels brand new but just a continuation of BOTW.

In some ways I do agree with you when you said that TOTK does not renew the experience. I finished BOTW for the first time a month before TOTK and after playing both back to back, the game progression is virtually identical (i.e., learn 4 abilities via shrines, venture to four regions to defeat an evil presence, earn a special ability, etc.). I do want to note, however, that a lot of the similarities are just conventions of a typical Zelda game and not NintenGod being lazy by copy-pasting BOTW with a new skin. However, I don't agree with the bolded part at all.

So much of Hyrule has changed :rip: In addition to cosmetic changes (chasms, strange weather phenomena in each of the big four regions, displaced villages/towns) there is tons more to do on the surface with caves/dungeons making a return. Just think about how much Hyrule castle itself has changed. How you navigate the castle and its different sections is completely altered with the upheaval. That's not even touching on the sky islands which, I'll admit are sparse, but have tons to do in terms of exploration. Then there's the entirety of the underworld with side quests/missions, loot, rare armour sets, new mobs, etc.

I personally found BOTW was way too bare for my liking, especially after playing TOTK. A lot of the emphasis on BOTW/TOTK is exploration and with the new mechanics, the 'tedious' aspects of exploration (e.g., climbing mountains, crossing huge bodies of water) are resolved. I've already spent more time with TOTK than BOTW according to my Switch's playtime.

I would not go as far as saying everything is disappointing because this game is objectively very good in many aspects but the issue for many players is that it is way too similar to BOTW. You were mentionning the quests in this game and I think that it might be what has improved the most: I found many of them amazing and rewarding. Maybe you haven't found some of the most important quests yet.

I'll probably do my third dungeron today or tomorrow. I think I'll head to Gerudo town. I'm not expecting much judging by the other two I have done so we'll see.

I agree with all of this. I played some more and I'm finding it annoying how all my quests are just go here, kill this, get this, cook this with little to no variety and no story.. I need to look some stuff up or if anyone has any quests suggestions that they really enjoyed bc I'm struggling.

Ugh I have so many clothes I want to buy/upgrade and so little money

An example of a quest that I really enjoyed:

Hopefully you’ll enjoy this one !

I finally did all 4 temples, beat Queen Gibdo last and it was the easiest boss.

Went to Hyrule Castle and got my ass kicked hard by the Phantom Ganons :rip:

Will do more shrines and side quests b4 attempting again. I did 73 shrines so far.

Also got all Dragon Tears so I already knew the current "Zelda" was a puppet of Ganon.

Haven't done much in the depths besides all of the Kohga quests/boss battles and ofcourse the fire temple.

Would've done more much sooner but studying for my exams currently and took a trip to London to see Queen Bey :jonny:

Omg, we're usually on the same page but this was one of my least favorite quests :lmao:

I think the major/story quests have been pretty decent for the most part (of course, excluding the snoozefest about the little girl leaving Tarrey Town for Gerudo Village), but the quest you described was just so tedious.

I kind of enjoyed the journalism quests. The one with the cage by Dueling Peaks (I think?) was pretty cool.

Yeah Side Adventures are all pretty good imo. Big step up from BOTW's Side Quests

I thought the Journalism + Koga quests would tie in the the main story tho :gaycat6: Journalism quest ends making u think there's gonna be 1 more big quest, that ties into the main plot, but really they just tease u with some hint to Kaas :clown:

I feel bad for the Zeldatubers. Spending 4 years theorizing why certain things like Shrines, Divine Beasts, Guardians, have all suddenly disappeared, only for TOTK to go "Y'all hear sumn?"  :deadvision: And the 8th Heroine story ended up being SO underwhelming compared to all the theories put out :rip:

I saw so many people on YT & Reddit say they cried to that, so I thought I was weird for being bored by it :deadbanana2: it's not a bad quest, but it's no Tarry Town. Now the Hateno Election? Now that's a SQ:WAP:

I actually find 80% of shrines to be super underwhelming but the rest is iconic - Jenga, the one with car and constructs, death roombas. Don't remember anything like that in BOTW.

Lol I think the quest I mentionned was pretty unique and intriguing. That’s the one I loved the most so far. You had to work to complete it and it was fun and rewarding.

I much prefer the shrines in totk cause they didnt make me feel like a dumb *****. Manage to do 70 shrins so far eithout looking up any guide or cheesing with rocket shields. :gaycat1:

Ah yeah the jenga one was fun. Wish we had more novelty shrines like that.

I couldn't figure out the jenga one and got lucky when the ball just happened to drop on my platform :biblionny:

This game is so MASSIVE!  I just started the labyrinths this week.  Got 6/9 completed.  Then I got distracted by 8 other things in the process and haven't attempted the last 3 labyrinths yet.

I feel like it will take 600 hours to finish everything.

I just completed my 3rd dungeon (Gerudo one) and want to post my thoughts about it.

First, I have finished 2 dungeons. Rito and Zora. The Rito one was a bit disappointing (especially as a first dungeon, I was expecting something bigger and better after six years of wait) but not necessarily bad. It's mid. The Zora dungeon is in my opinion... the worst dungeon of the entire The Legend Of Zelda franchise. An absolute disaster from A to Z (though I liked the Boss) and eventhough there are dungeons that I like more than others, I think it might be the very first time that I find a dungeon in Zelda... truly bad.

Anyway. This will contain some spoilers so please, avoid reading if you haven't done the Gerudo dungeon ! :bird:

I will start by saying that from what I have seen so far, the desert and the areas around felt different enough to make me feel a little bit lost at times, which is probably a first in Tears Of The Kingdom (finally !).

The atmosphere in the desert and in Gerudo Town felt apocalyptical. I am extremely happy that they added undead in the game and this region as they're probably the most iconic ennemis to me, I just LOVE them and they're so funny. Unfortunately, they're extremely weak lol. I was pleasantly surprised to see a second town right under the one we know. The Rito and Zora towns were identical and disappointing.

I enjoyed the quest to reach the dungeon. It actually makes you feel useful. The part in Gerudo Town kinda was like a The Walking Dead invasion lmao. Eventhough everything is casualised for the general public, it was fun and unique.

The dungeon itself:

When you're in front of it, you're like "Now, that's a f****** dungeon !". It's very exciting and much more impressive than the mess that served as a Zora dungeon.

The little introduction before entering the dungeon was so great.

The music and atmosphere in it is everything I was expecting. It's dark, scary, it has some traps. The design in it is great. The progression felt more linear and the environnement was less open, for the best. It works perfectly and much better than in the previous dungeons. I loved the structure. The ennemies were harder in it. It's probably because of my progression in the game though. The enigmas were finally great, effective and appropriate for the place. Riju's ability is useful in many ways even if it is optional.

I unfortunately got spoiled for the Boss' name so I obviously had an idea even before meeting it but the its design is amazing, the whole concept is amazing and the fight was amazing too. Rito's and Zora's bosses never ever hit me while this one honestly slapped me in the face a few times lol.

In conclusion, I am very satisfied with the dungeon and everything I've done today. It's for the moment the best dungeon in TOTK. It's much better than anything in BOTW too and it's even on par with many classic Zelda dungeons to me. Finally something that I really enjoyed !

I finally got the Zonaite Armor and plan to fly around on a device finding lightroots in the depths.

Certainly had to use a youtube guide to get the armor bc finding all that stuff on my own would be impossible.  Sometimes, things are hidden way too well in this game.

I have 16 shrines left to find and I am losing motivation. I haven’t looked anything up and I don’t want to start now.
I guess most of them will be in the sky, but I’ve explored most of the sky already. I just want to find them all before the last boss

just finished the "Fire Temple", what the hell? i looooved it

i'd say it's on par with the "Temple of Lightning" but it took me longer this time around which left me satisfied. i don't get the criticism, did everyone just "ascend" and use zonai devices all over the place and that's why they disappointed? because the puzzles in this one were great.

I only used the rail carts from start to finish and it was so fun. also loved fighting the many level 4 constructs while riding the carts. gave me indiana jones vibes.

that explains why there was only level IV  constructs in the "Fire Temple" when it's just my 2nd temple ...

also I've fought so many Lynels and i encountered only 1 red Lynel, it seems like they all disappeared from the game so I'm screwed to upgrade my "Barbarian armor".

Sometimes I wish the game would lock some quests until the story progressed to some point because

Spoiler

it feels hella anti-climatic when you finish the Phantom Ganon fight in Hyrule Castle then return to Purah only for her to say "oh you already found the sixth sage, oh you got the master sword too and you know where Ganondorf is hiding? well then continue" and see all these quests appear on your screen only for them to be marked as solved right after :deadbanana2:
