arceus Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 (edited) Finished all 4 temples and I let myself jumped into Hyrule Castle Chasm and oh boi........ I thought the Depth is already the deepest..... Quote Spoiler Then i found out you can go much deeper til you reach the place where we started the game This gave me so much Forgotten Crossroads vibe from Hollow Knight. Same place, 100% **** about to go down . Edited June 9, 2023 by arceus

They probably intended to add more sky enemies because it would be pointless to add an in-depth sky archery just for Gleeoks and Aerocudas. In this developer’s interview the director said they added too many sky islands but the designers scolded them cause it made the sky look messy. I blame them for this

They should’ve kept the old ones in….although I predict they may just be in a dlc now.
Eóghan Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I just realized something by finishing the toppled "goddess statue" quest (got the sword from Skyward Sword btw which also means I need a house ASAP since Zelda stole mine ... I assume this sword is purely for display unless someone tell me otherwise) anyway i found my first 'Bargainer Statue' right under the 'Goddess Statue' in temple of time a while ago, I decided to check under the statue in the 'spring of courage' and I found another "bargained statue" which means I hopefully got all the locations for the complete "Depths" armor if i upgrade it to level 2 it better be "gloom" proof, if that's the case it's a game-changer
Click Clack Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 some of these shrines were definitely made while the developers were high i was just about to cheat until i smoked a blunt & then instantly was able to solve it dndndndnndnx
Eóghan Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 that's the 3rd streamer I've seen using exclusively their glider to navigate the sky maze at a snail pace ... and desperately clinging onto walls when they run out of stamina. isn't the whole point of the sky maze to be in a constant state of skydive since there's an updraft running through the entire maze? and also it doesn't consume any stamina, so you don't have to ground your ass down every minute. and if you have the complete "skydive" set, you can speed through the whole maze quest in just seconds lol

Erreur2 La Nature Posted June 10, 2023 Author Posted June 10, 2023 I have 125 hours so far, I did 2 dungeons, I have around 250 koroks, 4 memories and still a looot to do... but I gotta admit that I am disappointed with the game. Maybe my expectations were too high after BOTW but it feels like the exact same game copied and pasted to me, on many levels :/ 1

ebaby Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 i'm 50/50 on if I think they should have just done a different map all together. i like the new mechanics, the story, etc. i just think some of the magic of BOTW was discovering + exploring the map for the first time — a lot of that gets lost here since we've already explored this hyrule before. though i do give them props for making it feel a little more fresh in some moments than i expected by changing areas. people already are not into the lack of continuity in different ways so it feels like the using the same hyrule wasn't utilized to its fullest potential to begin with. 1

When the developers decided to make a sequel to Ocarina Of Time and it happened in one year, it gave us Majora's Mask. I only discovered MM a few years ago and it's not necessarily among my favorite The Legend Of Zelda games (the main reason is that I don't like the 3 days system, eventhough they did a great job with it) but it feels like a complete different game than its predecessor despite reusing the art style, some characters and items. When I am playing TOTK, I just feel like I am playing a slightly different version of Breath Of The Wild. Tears only alter what was already existing in BOTW : Link had 4 powers in BOTW so what they did is modify/invent different powers. Link had champion's abilities in BOTW and that system exists in TOTK too. They kept the 4 fairies to upgrade your equipment. They kept the towers. They kept the shrines. They kepy the towns exactly as they were and only added one. They kept the BOTW type of dungeons. They kept the way you explore the world and the objectives. Etc... Nothing has really changed. It has just been slightly altered. To get a little bit into details... I have played BOTW for hundreds of hours and I have watched hundreds of hours of content about it. I know the Hyrule map almost by heart and when I am playing Tears, I am often bored because I can't find the feeling that I got while discovering BOTW. It feels pretty much the same and the modifications are minimalistic. The sky is a huge disappointment. It's literally the 2 or 3 same island patterns copy and pasted everywhere. There is basically nothing to do in the sky except getting a few treasure maps for the underground, which is not even necessary. I was really enjoying discovering the underground at first because it felt new and exciting but once you realise how it works, it really isn't that exciting anymore. It's pretty much empty and you have a few locations where you'll find a Yiga campement with no challenge or a chest with a piece of equipment that you already possessed (in most cases) in BOTW. The dungeons are my biggest disappointment so far. They are catastrophic. I feel like after BOTW's success, the developers decided to keep the BOTW formula to avoid scaring new players but they could have done things differently. First of all, I want to clarify that I am one of the rares fans that loved the dungerons in BOTW. Eventhough they clearly had weaknesses (sharing the same esthetic and the boss), it felt different, unique and cool. So far, the two dungerons I have completed (Rito and Zora) felt extremely short, uninspired, boring, lazy. The puzzles were ri-di-cu-lous. I felt like they were treating me like a 6 years old kid in front of them. There's almost no ennemies, no challenge, no nothing. The only positive points were that opposite to BOTW, they don't share the same design and the Boss combats were more epic and fun. I hate the new Ultrahand ability. I am not necessarily the most creative person and using artefacts to build vehicles and other things is not for me. I absolutely hate it and the biggest issue is that the world feels like it was built to use this power everywhere, all the time. I love the 3 other powers and never feels forced to use them as they are optional but Ultrahand seems to be a necessity pretty often, which is really annoying. It's also the main gimmick in shrines... which makes me love BOTW's shrines much more compared to TOTK. I am mainly talking about the things that I don't like and bother me but TOTK sure has many strenghts too: The quests are amazing. They have done a great job with this part and the rewards are better. The caves are always fun to explore. The towns feel a bit more alive. The story is more developped. There's more personalisation. The new ennemies are great. The Boss in the dungeons are much better than in BOTW. Tears Of The Kingdom is objectively a good game and it would be my favorite game of all time if I never played Breath Of The Wild... but I did... and the 6 years wait for this sequel absolutely isn't justified in my opinion. If this game was released in like 2020, I would have been fine with it, but the developers took way too much time with it and probably struggled with the physic a lot but playing with the physic is not enough and not what I personaly need from a Zelda game. As I said, I still have a lot to discover but after around 130 hours of playing this game, I have understood what it consists of and I am not sold on it. 2
Puttanesca Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 I get where some of ya'll are coming from but it's so funny to me that people have sunk 100+ hours into the game and then decide to call it boring. Maybe it's time for a break lol. 2

Vroom Vroom Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 I haven’t played BOTW for 6 years, so TOTK feels like a brand new game to me. Plus I wasn’t good at video games back then so I’m getting a lot more out of this play through. I still have one temple left and 30 shrines to go
Patient Zero Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Can this game fukin chill.. I’m nearing 70hours and still feel like I’m scraping the surface
Eóghan Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 If I didn't like "Ultrahand", this game would be a huge disappointment for me, I totally get where you coming from @Erreur2 La Nature It can really make or break the game because of how much it's built around it. I mean this afternoon alone after doing the "rebuilding Lurelin" quest in just 30 minutes, I've spent the following 2 hours at the Lurelin Water Resort messing with all kinds of "water zonai mech" to get faster and faster on the rally. A waste of time but I had so much fun. 😆 And I agree with you when it comes to the identity crisis that this game has, in the first 50 hours I really had a hard time giving this game a proper identity and I couldn't tell it apart from BoTw. I would constantly excuse the game by saying "this is a direct sequel, this is a continuation of BoTw, I have to think of it as part 2. what else did I expect?" But honestly it's a valid criticism. After 3 thorough playthroughs of BoTw, this game lowkey felt like some dissociative experience on my part, it was strange. I'm at 140 hours now and I can safely say the game 100% clicked with me, it's a different experience than BoTw and it's forming it's own identity little by little. It's just not as instant as I thought. It's definitely treading the same path as BoTw once in a while but I'm constantly surprised wherever I go. And yes they kept the same structure/core as BoTw but the new insane mechanics and added exploration content more than make up for it. And I'm not even mentioning the story which i've barely touched (3 dragon tears), because it's always been played as a second fiddle for me with Zelda games. I don't care that much. Y'all find the "depths" and "sky" boring but I don't and ultimately it's because those 2 maps are giant playgrounds for Ultrahand/Autobuild, and y'all didn't click with those abilities but I did. Everytime I stumble into a abandoned mine, I'm delighted: I can farm Large Zonaite, when I find a new forge I'm delighted: I have even more choices to upgrade my Battery Cell and I get a cool "schema stone" for my autobuild as a bonus. The same reason why I love hunting the Yiga down there, there's million "yiga schematic" who are even more fun designs for my autobuild. I always find a use for them. But what I love the most about the depths is the frequency of enemies per square meter which leads me to my favorite thing in this game: "the combat", which is 10x times more fun than BoTw, the possibilities on how to **** up a group of enemies are endless (whether it's materials or zonai mech) and I never get tired of finding new ways The fact that I used to avoid enemies in BoTw and now the stronger they get I just go head on because all monster parts are so useful in this one is a testament to this game. Also it seems the general consensus about the Temple is that they're either too short or ridiculous (you can sequence-break them easy). I've only done the "Temple of Lightning" and so far I agree I was sad by how short it was but the lead up to the temple was 10/10. Apparently the pre-dungeon stuff is much better in this game than BoTw and I've read somewhere that the Nintendo team designed each phenomenon area as a larger scale dungeon and it makes sense for Gerudo area I've done. (solving the mystery of the gerudo shelter > mirror light puzzle leading to Riju > the fight at Kara Bazar > the strategy battle at Gerudo Town > the red pillars puzzle) I guess it's already a lot and they didn't want to overwhelm the lambda player 🤷 that made BoTw such a juggernaut seller They're annoying. And to finish, I need to get this out of the my chest but BoTw shrines >>>>> ToTk shrines. I'm at 115 shrines, I get the jist. I've seen unanimous praise for the ToTk shrines and yes there is some brilliant ones but the majority are just stupid. So stupid that sometimes you can't see it. Like someone said above you have to be high to come up with this ****. BoTw shrines were smarter and sophisticated. 1
