Loving this game so much and can probably confidently say I like it more than BOTW, but I don’t understand why the developers went the way the did with the story structure. I have all the dragon tears, but have only done 2 dungeons, so I’m so far ahead of where I should be in the story. I know they wanted that ‘freedom to do whatever’ feeling again, but they kinda dropped the ball on it. I think they should have either had the tears found in chronological order as you find them, or somehow restrict how far ahead you can get

You can't really tell a very cohesive story with such an open worlded game such as TotK

And what you're asking is basically for them to place "road blocks" in the game which defeats its purpose

Gameplay is what matters at the end of the day, why are people always so surprise Zelda story is so-so? Who cares when the gameplay and artstyle is superb

There’s an image of the glyphs in order somewhere in the map if you want to do them chronologically. It’s the best possible way to let the player follow the story on their own imo

Unlike BOTW's memories (where u already know the ending) if u accidentally watch the last few TOTK memories, u basically get spoilt. So i can see why u'd be pissed. I'd be furious if i saw the final memory mid way. But they also pretty directly tell u what the memory order is if u go to a certain area (which the game tries to get u to go to early on too) When i went there i basically made a shitty image tracing out the exact order of memories & did my exploring that way.

Towards the end there was 1 memory i unintentionally watched out of order, but i honestly preferred it :jonny5: the way everything clicked in my head :jonny5: Can't wait till everyone finishes so i can elaborate, discovering things for the 1st time in BOTW / TOTK is truly an experience u can only have once  :jonny5:

This was the shitty memory order image i made, in relation to the TOTK map:

This game is a war crime simulator :rip:

This is cracked asf :bibliahh:

Also I agree that the sages abilities suck. IMO you shouldnt have to go near them to activate it. A minor qol improvement like that could make the sages way better

I did the glitch today and bought the armors. I want my link to look good while im running around :-*

I decided to finally progress in the main quest a bit

Spoiler

I'm doing Gerudo now and have to say it's already much more eventfull and atmospheric than Zora and Death Mountain. Rito was quite cinematic too but didn't expect Gerudo to slay that hard

I get this concern (as someone who found all the tears before doing the first dungeon :rip:) and don't really agree that limiting our ability to get tears would be "road blocks" in an open world game; they could very easily have the light dragon cry after we finish a temple, spawning 2-3 new tears to collect to put the story together. That wouldn't limit our ability to explore at all, and plenty of features are gated behind finishing the major dungeons, so this wouldn't be that out of the ordinary.

I feel like a link between worlds did it perfectly. It was very open air, but there was still a semi set path that you had to take.

I did follow the path from the forgotten temple so I didn’t spoil that part of the story for myself but (and major story spoilers)

Spoiler

I keep getting all these cutscenes about Zelda acting weird/shady but I’ve already long found that Ganondorf can use her as a puppet so it’s pretty clear that’s the situation. It’s jarring to know she’s a dragon in the sky while Link and the sages are seeing her walk around and Link isn’t like “actually that’s not her”

In breath of the wild when you progressed a certain point (like getting the master sword before fighting a divine beast) characters would make subtle comments about it. This time I’ve progressed very far and there is no acknowledgment of it.

I think the story is pretty solid from a Zelda standpoint, but my complaint about pacing I still feel is pretty valid. It’s not a diss on the game and it’s not hindering my enjoyment, it’s just very noticeable.

VERY THIS.

I did all the tears and then finally found myself in Kakariko Village after like 40 hours and

Spoiler

when they said they can't explore the ring ruins cause Zelda said so, I was like.... Sis, Link knows Ganondorf's puppet trick. Like just say that? And why isn't Impa intervening when I told her about the Light Dragon?

Exactly!! More story spoilers, but

Spoiler

I just finished all the dungeons and now I’m heading to the castle because we just saw ‘her’ and I’m just confused because I feel like at this point link should be explaining the situation to people. Even a minor change in dialogue like “oh that’s odd it might not be her, you should still go to the castle to find out” would completely fix the issue. Instead Link is told to go to the castle to find Zelda even though the light dragon is literally flying overhead on my way there..it’s just feels very disconnected

everytime that big horn blast when you enter the depths i get chills

I'm doing the "great fairy fountain" quest at the moment and I love the irish-inspired music of the musical troupe. the live instruments sound SO good

I left phantom ganon fight in the castle cause it was too hard and went to the korok forest and guess who I met

Apparently, lightroots are located

underneath the shrines. I was like "oh my"

Anyway, I activated all the Skyview towers. They were much easier than the BOTW's towers. The Akkala Tower, for instance, was a pain in the ass early in the game.

Well, not really. This is a little trick discovered by the speedrunner community.
