You just didn't get it. It's another level type of horror.

There's nothing to get, I like the movie, it's just not THAT great.

And can we talk about how SCREAM got completely washed by black phone, nope, pearl, smile and barbarian and is already forgotten? :sistrens:

Oooh you liked it then. :turkey: I found it a genius movie, you just can't take it seriously ala Hereditary or Midsommar. :gaycat4:

And yes, Scream is serving major fad. Poor Courtney. :fan:

Agreed!

Apparently I still rated it 3.5, but it's definitely not close to a 5!

Barbadian was pretty good. I liked how it touched on feminism/womanhood and the dangers women face in society without it being a blatant in your face cringefest. The lead actress was great and Justin Long was a good

I watched Smile and Barbarian over the weekend.  Both were good, but slightly underwhelming after all the hype.

Smile was a simple 7/10.  People (in real life) were telling me it was the scariest film EVER, and it definitely wasn't.  The jump scares were par for the course, and the creature design at the end was... okay.  My biggest problem with the film was that it was so incredibly predictable.  Watching it was like doing a paint-by-numbers, you could tell exactly what was going to happen in the next scene.  The end was exactly what I expected.  Still a fun, good movie overall though.  I would watch a sequel.

Barbarian was better.  8.5/10.  The first half was PHENOMENAL.  Loved Georgina and Bill, and the sense of ominous tension created was excellent.  When she was exploring the tunnels..... so good.  Scarier than anything in Smile by a long shot.

The way they made you so certain Bill's character was the villain, only for that twist halfway through... holy ****.  THAT is how to shock an audience!  When his head got slammed against the wall over and over again we were all gasping.  And they didn't put Justin Long in the trailer or in any promotional material so I had no idea he was coming.  Great marketing, great storytelling, great twist.  Super impressed.

Unfortunately the second half was a bit more formulaic, and AJ was just too over the top reprehensible to enjoy as a character.  Also, I thought the "barbarian's" backstory was underwhelming.  They could've done more with that.

Overall a really good movie though.  Probably the best horror film I've watched since MaLEGENDgnant :clap3:

I just started catching up on some horror movies. So far my favourites have been Fresh and also Barbarian, although the latter got a bit stupid in the 2nd half. Also watched X, it was okay, nothing memorable imo. Prey was kind of boring to me. The Black Phone was decent, worth a watch. Malignant was also really good, went in with no expectations and it was very entertaining.

finally got around to watching Smile.

it was fine. i thought the story was overall weak and full of horror film cliches aside from being derivative.

i found the generational mental illness plotline was more compelling than the actual horror stuff.

Sosie's acting was great tho and the sound design was cute.

James Wan's camerawork is always so stunning and chilling even if the movie isn't all that good. Like wow he really gets it. Rewatching his best work (Insidious) :jonny:

Perhaps our taste in movies won't be as tragically misaligned as that of our music :biblio:

The first on your watchlist must be It Follows which is without a doubt THEE all time most discussed horror flick on ATRL. Available to stream on Prime Video and Tubi!

Halloween Panneds and Gen Z Massacre deserve their own tier below everything. A flawless ranking otherwise :jonnycat:

Am even more intrigued to see Miss Piggy now with your stamp of approval omg :duca:
