Poor Sand watches RayMew (almost kiss) dancing in the bar... like he catches Ray cheating on him. In EP8, Ray acts like a superior rich ******* to Sand, "I can have feelings for as many people as I like." That's why in EP8 Sand takes revenge on Ray (& tries to make out with a stranger in the cosplay party.)

The MVPs in EP7 are Book & Neo. Book rocks the "nerd to villain" role. He dresses like Boston/Ray (which is hot 🔥) & talks like Boston... in a SMARTER way. And Neo's acting is so natural! GMMTV, give Neo a main main role in a series. This funny guy can act.

 

Mark's crying scene at Sand's home is emotional & makes you (wanna) cry. To improve his acting, Mark needs control his emotions better. So that the tears match the facial expressions. He also needs to show a wider range of facial expressions (Learn from First & Khaotung.) But this is Mark's first main role - so good job.

 

EP8 Prediction: The police find drugs in Ray's cosplay party! Who owns the drugs? Is it really Ray? Or Sand trying to sell drugs? Or Top putting his drugs in Ray's place so that the police arrest Ray (& hopefully Mew will get back to Top)?

Can't believe we are already in the 2nd half of OF. Ep 7 is the best episode thus far, though I do think there are some deficiencies.

 

1. The episode is pivotal because of the dramatic shift in how some of the characters behave. Mew is now dressing up like Ray and Boston, and he honestly looks hot in his tank top (just not as hot as Top & Boston). Interesting to see that Top = white tank top and Mew = black tank top.

 

2. Red f(l)ags Top and Boston are probably in their redemption phase for the next few episodes (well, by their standards). After being humiliated, Boston will probably be more mellow and he may reduce his h0e activities. In the costume party next week, Boston manages to have somewhat calm conversation with Nick again. Notwithstanding Nick finding a new guy to hook up with (Papang's character), it looks increasingly possible for a somewhat more positive ending with BostonNick. I was initially quite worried that the transition from Boston being riled up at Nick to Boston possibly loving Nick again would be strange, but I think the humiliation scene serves as a terrific turning point in Boston's character (I hope)

 

3. As a gay guy, for some reason, I kind of like to watch other closeted queer characters squirming their way out explaining their sexuality to others. (Only on TV and in the movies, not in real life of course.) I do wish to see a scene with Boston having to convince his dad that he's not actually gay after his dad suspects something.

 

4. Nick was kinda delusional when he said "I was so close to making him love me". Erm, Boston has made it clear from the start. But having said that, Boston did at times give Nick a bit of false hope. (Boston met him very often, and he seemed no longer interested in Top.) I did empathize with him when he said he didn't need Boston to make him his #1; he just needed Boston to not hate him.

Yes, Boslut being the least criminal of the main 6 boys.  The 2nd season can be about the 5 of them in jail/rehab and Boslut visiting them.

I have a theory about Nick. Nick mentioned in like episode 2 or 3 that he was bullied when he was younger because of his curly hair. Him being a bully costume also explains his low self esteem. This makes sense, but I'm also quite bored of the "we met in the past" or "we had a chance encounter a long time ago" trope.

My OF thoughts/predictions before Aug 12 2023:

 

- The sex tape would feature BostonNick, and Nick was going to release the sex tape himself.
- I was going to cheer BostonNick and TopBoston all the way

- SandRay would be the most boring couple

- Boston would have humping scenes every episode

 

 

 

What I think of OF after 7 episodes

 

- SandRay are far more interesting than I thought they would be. I actually buy them as a couple, especially after OS2 The Eclipse, where I kept rolling my eyes when they got chummy with each other

- I really did not expect DrakeBook and NeoBook to have that much chemistry 2gether

I do have similar thoughts, but I think, in my case, it's may be more rooted in my biases/prejudices. Both guys give me bottom energy and they don't seem particularly manly nor fit the conventional mold of cute guys, so whatever they do, it's less likely to make me scream (in a good way) and go "Yes, yes, I need more of this". First and Khaotung may be better actors than BrightWin, SatangWinny, MaxTul and cute Ohm (who's paired up with Fluke Pusit in ABAAB), but the latter 4 couples are probably more conventionally better looking, and thus, makes me yearn for more of them.

 

FirstKhao are far better at playing enemies than lovers, overall, which is a pity because they are in a ship for the considerable future.

 

Another thing is that FirstKhao have lots more vocal international fans and them spamming the comments section of YT / Reddit kind of make me less enthusiastic about them. It's not FK's fault though.

Mew is on a rebound (like Taylor Swift / Matt Healy and Ariana Grande / the married guy who played Spongebob in the musical), so it makes sense. It will also probably lead to more messiness and angst, so it's on brand for the show. Some people have commented that Ray trying things out for Mew will probably make him realize that Ray is in denial that Sand is who he really likes.

Yeah, and Mew kind of clocked him, so at least that's settled.

 

It's a bit like how in The Eclipse, Khanlong kissed Thuaphu while Thuaphu was (probably?) sleeping and the people in the YT comments were cheering Khan on.

I know GawinFirst were great in Not Me (better than OffGun honestly), but I think the execs already had plans for a FirstKhao ship. It worked out fine for both First and Gawin either way. FirstKhao are doing well internationally and they will be the 1st ship to go to South America for a fan meet. Gawin is at least earning some dough in the concert with Krist.

There should be a separate category for Anti-Hero of the Year, or a divide the Villain of the Year category by gender, so that both Li of Khun Chai and Boston will not go head-to-head and they can win each category.

Apologies for keeping all of you waiting, but I can now finally launch the long awaited BL King of 2023!

 

 

 

In a slight departure from what touya has done in the past few years, I will expand the number of slots in the rankings, allow more actors for you guys to rank, and also significantly change the way you guys choose who will enter the Hall of Fame (since this may be the only year I'm doing it).

 

Basic Information: BL King rate

 

1. You can rank up to 30 actors in the ranking this year, and I will be presenting the top 50 actors (with a few bubbling under I guess).

2. The actor must have acted in at least 1 Asian production (TV series, web series or movie) as an LGBTQIA+ character (which will be referred henceforth as "queer") since the advent of cinema/TV production. Asia is defined broadly, and all the countries/jurisdictions listed in the Wikipedia page for "Asia" are eligible, with the exception of Egypt and Russia. 

3. Take note that the actual citizenship(s) / ethnicity / sexual orientation / gender that an actor may possess in real life does not matter. That person just needs to have played a queer male character in an Asian production to be eligible. (To remove any ambiguity, per my understanding, for thespians like Jennie Panhan, who played female characters, will not be eligible here, but will be eligible for a GL Queen rate, should I ever consider launching it.)

4. The character that the actor has played need not have a same-gendered romantic partner at the end of the show/movie. Hence, AJ, who played Non in Dark Blue Kiss, would be eligible.

5. The character that the actor has played need not be a living human. The character may be a ghost, vampire, non-human animal () etc, so long as the character is identified as a male.

6. Actors who starred in "bromances" from mainland China are eligible, not to worry.

 

When you vote

1. In your ranking, you must include actors from shows originating from 5 different jurisdictions in your ranking. (For the avoidance of any doubt, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are considered as distinct jurisdictions. The same goes for Israel/Palestine and Cyprus/Northern Cyprus.) If you fail to provide a list with actors hailing from fewer than 5 different jurisdictions, I will only take the top 27 (or 90%) of your list. Note again that the actor may have citizenship/ethnic background of a non-Asian country, but this 5 jurisdiction rule applies to the jurisdiction from which the show/movie originates.

2. In addition, for all actors from Thailand, at least 1 Thai actor in your list must not ever have been signed as a GMMTV artist (past/present). 

3. You're free to add any additional comments in your vote (when you PM me) and I will post them on results day.

Breaking of Ties

1. In the event of a tie in number of points, the actor who has received more mentions from more members will be ranked higher.

2. Following which, the highest position of each actor that is tied will be compared. If necessary, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. highest position will be looked at in order to break the tie.

 

Deadline: October 15 2023 (Sunday - tentative, may be extended)

Expected reveal of results: October 28 - 29 2023 (Saturday and Sunday - tentative)
