By all accounts the Switch 2 is a premium product that pushes portable technology. If it were just a TV console the price point for the capabality of the hardware would indeed be crazy. This is fine for what we're getting, but that doesn't make it cheap of course.

Nintendo has put me in the most uniquely ****** situation as a non-native resident of Japan where I actually can't even enter the lottery and I just need to rant

 

So Nintendo has made a cheaper Japan only version for customers here but offering the international version that allows other languages to be selected… for 20k yen extra. But you can only buy the international version in Japan on the official MyNintendo store. 

 

I'm not entirely fluent and need access to my games in English so I'm forced to get the international version from the ONE place that sells it via a lottery. My region is set to Japan, I have easily 50 hours on switch and I've been paying for switch online for YEARS. So I try the eligibility check to at least enter the lottery.
 

I'm in a family plan and I'm not the main person paying (it's a friend in the UK) which makes me ineligible to even enter the lottery and even if I made an individual account you have to have been paying for Switch Online for an entire YEAR to even be eligible. And since nowhere else in Japan will stock the version with English there is absolutely no way for me to get it. And they won't remove the eligibility or lottery for ages probably due to demand  

 

I'm sad and idk what to do but maybe it's good I can't get this overpriced shite yet anyway idk

Sorry to hear that, so frustrating! Maybe check at Yodobashi and similar if they have plans to sell the international version. An alternative is getting an imported system.

What a disaster for Nintendo. They are at their highest peak ever, in a great position to release the most successful console of all time. There are reports that say they've been manufacturing units since late 2023 preparing for this launch, making sure everyone can get an unit and make it the biggest console launch ever.
