Erreur2 La Nature Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 I've been playing Mario Wonder today and damn it's not disappointing me, what a refreshing game. The artistic direction is magnificient, the gameplay is renewed, the elephant power up is really cool. I've completed (100%) 7 main stages so far (we all see them in the trailers) and that was really fun. The wonder flowers transforming the levels are a fantastic addition.
Puttanesca Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 I wanna buy Wonder but I still need to finish TOTK ddddd

What do u think of RDR2 Combat, Exploration etc. Can u compare it to any Nintendo games? It's on a sale rn, but from the little i know about it, it doesn't serve BOTW levels of convenience, like picking things up takes "forever" rather than the item teleporting to your inventory, & it seems like u have to travel a lot very slowly... I like how BOTW lets u explore a lot, but at the same time respects your time
Kern Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 (edited) 5 days left So I'm having a night shift on Thursday so I'll go to sleep in the morning and Mario will be waiting for me to play when I wake up. I'm gonna spend probably whole rest of the day just playing. I'm so excited. Edited October 15, 2023 by stupidjock
Frappucino Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 I had to start over my island on Animal Crossing, could someone hook me up?

I like how BOTW lets u explore a lot, but at the same time respects your time honestly there's no other game like this in the nintendo ip catalogue that i can compare it with. it's a rockstar game after all, this is no nintendo or souls game, there's no difficulty. you can put your brain on autopilot and enjoy the movie. if you want the difficulty you have to look for it (for example there's a system for each mission where you get a list of requirements, depending on the things you achieve on the list during the mission you can get a gold/silver/bronze medal). this is purely for challenge purpose and completionist. I see a lot of of people compare it to botw but i play each game for very different reasons, i replay rdr2 for the outstanding story, the superbly written characters and the different outcomes/relationships that i didn't explore the first time around. and i replay botw for the awsome fluid gameplay and physics. the exploration/survival aspect are great and rewarding in both games. I think that's why they do get compared a lot. as for the worries you mention - i don't remember having any problem with picking plants/items up, it's fast like any game but the inventory is annoyingly small, you have the possibility to upgrade it as you progress the game. this is the aspect of the game where I personally sought out the difficulty for myself which could be annoying for anyone else but it was super fun for me. i wanted the satchel with unlimited inventory which is considered the biggest challenge in the game where you have to track and hunt a very specific list of animals all over the map, you have to kill them in a certain way with very specific weapons, it took me 25 hours to do so this is the realistic-survivalist approach that wasn't in rdr that turned off some players but honestly it can be ignored if you're great at managing your small inventory. - the combat/shooting is fine but not great. it was awkward and unintuitive for me, you get used to it I guess. there's no play session where i don't have a bounty on my ass because i killed npc/merchants by accident - the travelling is another controversial thing about this game that was a result of the realistic approach they took with this game, yes it is slow to get around depending on what horse you have + the map is huge. but there is a fast travel system within the game, it just takes a while to unlock and it's not obvious. during the first year of release of this game, most players didn't even know that there was a fast travel system, that's how obscure rockstar made it. I assume because it defeats the purpose of the game but honestly I used it a lot. thank god it's there. anyway to resume it's worth it for the story alone. and your worries are there but fixable. 1

I'm at 120 hours and i think i have 2 palaces left. i'm starting to see the end of the tunnel. I usually commit and finish long games in under 3 months without exception (like 120h in 1 month for DQ11 or 250h in 2 months for TOTK) but as amazing as this game is, it was such a weird drawn out journey. I think it's the life sim aspect that I didn't expect to take SO much space in the game, and I'm not really into that kind of gaming. but I'm attached to the characters by now and hooked by the story, I want see where it ends so I'm pushing through, even though it's a slow pace. the dungeon crawling/combat is 10/10 though, it's so unique and fun, I'm pumped whenever I'm in the heart of it.
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted October 17, 2023 Author ATRL Moderator Posted October 17, 2023 Finished Prime last night and yes, Samus ATE all the way on that one The final boss killed me when it had a fraction of health left and I almost cried, but I beat it on my second attempt. If I have any complaints at all, it's that traveling can be a bit tedious and the grappling hook is trash. But 10/10 game still!
