The way Pitchfork STAYS giving Alaska backhanded compliments

 

I know they had a list years ago of the best and worst drag songs and I think "Your Makeup Is Terrible" was named one of the best, while "Hieee" was called one of the worst. And here they praises "Wow" but tug on her album's wig a bit with a few drags about it being uneven.

 

Not saying she should be exempt from critique, just wild that she is the only one on the list who got a bit of negative commentary mixed in to her writeup and nothing about the musical atrocities Manila has committed in her history (including one that came out this week ).

I honestly think part of the issue is that what makes Alaska the most money is being referential to drag race. It's not her fault that her Loosey number ultimately went more viral than any of that original stuff. And it is a trap I think a lot of the girls fall in and have trouble getting out of. Like Bob and Monet CLEARLY hate doing Watchery now, but they do it because they know way more of their fans want that than the advice show. And Bob is going on tour with Madonna and released a rap EP this year, but probably his most viral moment of 2023 so far was that video of him doing Kate Bush mixed with Salina's Ross rant in front of her in the glove look.

I think this is a very, very fair point. 

 

The model to follow (in my eyes) is really the Bianca, Trixie, and Katya model, where they largely have not made any DR content post-show aside from hosting Pit Stop or occasional guest appearances. No one expects it from them now. 

 

At this point there are Trixie and Katya fans, and also comedy fans in general who checked out Bianca’s shows, who have never even watched Drag Race. It’s pretty impressive. 

 

(that being said, I love pretty much everything Alaska does [except the podcast], whether she’s referencing DR or not)

Kerri has always been a dumb ***** but now I’m really over her. Nina West literally does child friendly shows and she still got accosted at one of her shows. 
 

If she doesn’t realize it’s not about the content that drag queens and other queer artists put out, especially as a trans woman, then she’s either incredibly ignorant or incredibly stupid and both are bad for the current political climate if she wants to run her mouth. If you can’t say anything helpful, keep it quiet.

 

And that’s so awful to say cause Kerri could really be an incredible representation for the trans community but alas, she’s all beauty and no brains I guess. Really sad.

 

AND I say all this as a MANila the Cop Lover hater. Drag the cringe, not the drag, especially not for straights.
