Not people catching COVID at least 5 times.

This is not going to go away like SARS and MERS (technically not 100% eradicated, but nobody thinks about it).

Sad that millions of doses are being discarded around the world.

I went for my 5th shot (Moderna) yesterday. Most of the people present at the site were foreigners who have just arrived (probably for their 4th shot). I would presume that being up to date with their vaccinations is a requirement for working here.

22.5% is quite impressive. Maybe they live in rural areas under Democratic governors.

Nayib Bukele’s administration in El Salvador has come under fire from rights groups for apparently falsifying Covid-19 figures in an attempt to cover up the true cost of the pandemic.

Two-thirds of the country’s Covid-19 fatalities were left out of official figures in order to give the illusion that the authoritarian government had the pandemic under control, the Salvadoran newspaper La Prensa Gráfica reported on Monday.

El Salvador’s health ministry regularly broadcast the country’s Covid-19 daily death count in what appeared to be a regional success story. The country has recorded 668 Covid-19 deaths per million people, according to official figures – the lowest in Central America except for Nicaragua, which has reported an even more implausible 245 deaths under the dictator Daniel Ortega.

In contrast, the figures obtained by La Prensa Gráfica would give El Salvador one of the highest per capita death rates in Central America, exceeding Guatemala and Honduras, among others in the region.

Salvadoran doctors had alleged that the government was censoring information during the pandemic to give the illusion it had the public health crisis under control while in reality the public health system was collapsing.

S. Korea mulls over downgrading Covid-19 health risk, lifting all remaining mask mandates | The Straits Times

Covid-19 testing costs and medical expenses will be covered only for those who need intensive care, while medicine and vaccination costs will remain subsidised for all.

A recent surge in Covid-19 cases, however, could affect the government’s decision. While there were 16,025 cases in the third week of June, up to 26,708 cases were recorded in the second week of July.

If the second phase gets implemented as planned, the third phase, which symbolises the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, will begin. The KDCA expects to announce the third phase in April 2024.

How people judge anti-vaxxers who die from COVID-19 (osu.edu)

While very few rejoice in the deaths of anti-vaxxers, some people believe those who are dogmatic against vaccines are deserving of worse outcomes – and that reaction is related to the political party affiliation and vaccination status of the person evaluating the anti-vaxxer.

Democrats and those who were vaccinated were more likely than Republicans and the unvaccinated to think anti-vaxxers who died got what they deserved – but even 63% of Democrats in the study thought an anti-vaxxer deserved to have a full recovery from the disease (compared to 80% of Republicans).

Only 4.6% of people in the study thought an anti-vaxxer who contracted COVID-19 deserved death.

In the final Facebook post, Terry’s brother announced that Terry had died of COVID. Participants in the study were asked how “satisfied” they were with Terry’s death.  Overall, participants were more satisfied with his or her death when Terry maintained anti-vaccination views right up to death.

Vaccinated participants were more satisfied with Terry’s death than unvaccinated participants, and Democrats were more satisfied than Republicans.

But no group showed high levels of satisfaction, the results showed.  Participants rated their satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 7, which 7 being the most satisfied. The average score was 2.93 for Democrats, compared to 2.51 for Republicans.
