Genius1111 Posted September 10, 2022 Author Posted September 10, 2022 A key consideration for China is that its healthcare infrastructure outside urban areas is not that great. Unfortunately, with very frequent testing, it means that local governments can't make use of the funds to invest in healthcare infrastructure. Perhaps they should have been like Abu Dhabi and do it once a fortnight. Also, people gathering at testing sites seems like a recipe for creating clusters. Anyway, it's sad that countries are either pursuing COVID-zero or COVID-zero-farks-given. Tragic either way.
Genius1111 Posted September 11, 2022 Author Posted September 11, 2022 And some people will still refuse to take them.
Genius1111 Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 China: A bus in Guizhou province sending people to quarantine overturns and 27 people were killed. This triggered a firestorm on Chinese social media and quite a lot of posts (not all) were taken down. The province only registered 2 deaths officially in the nearly 1000 days of the pandemic. US: President Biden (prematurely) declares the pandemic over. The way both countries are handling the (still-ongoing) pandemic
Robert Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Seems like China (and Macau) will be the only areas in the sinosphere still having a quarantine period soon.

I see that Shanghai is supposed to be hosting an F1 race in 2023, so it they will be allowing foreigners to travel into China in a few months I guess.

US: President Biden (prematurely) declares the pandemic over. The way both countries are handling the (still-ongoing) pandemic The pandemic has been "over" in the US since the day after the 2020 election when it was announced that the vaccines were ready for mass production. People immediately stopped caring the instant it didn't have to be used as a political weapon against the then-sitting president anymore. Biden himself was ready to declare the pandemic over last July so that he could start student loan payments again as quickly as possible so he wouldn't have to think about providing relief anymore (as that was... literally his highest priority at the time). Delta put a wrench in that plan, needless to say, lol.
Genius1111 Posted September 25, 2022 Author Posted September 25, 2022 At least we can enjoy some relative peace for the time being before it gets colder in the Northern Hemisphere.
Genius1111 Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 1000 days have passed since the WHO noted this mysterious new pneumonia, and our lives have not been the same. https://www.who.int/news/item/27-04-2020-who-timeline---covid-19 31 Dec 2019 Wuhan Municipal Health Commission, China, reported a cluster of cases of pneumonia in Wuhan, Hubei Province. A novel coronavirus was eventually identified. 1 January 2020 WHO had set up the IMST (Incident Management Support Team) across the three levels of the organization: headquarters, regional headquarters and country level, putting the organization on an emergency footing for dealing with the outbreak. 4 January 2020 WHO reported on social media that there was a cluster of pneumonia cases – with no deaths – in Wuhan, Hubei province. 5 January 2020 WHO published our first Disease Outbreak News on the new virus. This is a flagship technical publication to the scientific and public health community as well as global media. It contained a risk assessment and advice, and reported on what China had told the organization about the status of patients and the public health response on the cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan.
