Continuous gas trade with Finland and lowered air defense systems near the border/ St. Petersburg. Just another example of how "NATO expansion" was never a threat to Russia to begin with

it's most probably thermite (and yeah, using it on civilians is sheer terrorism)

Anyway, Putler is giving a televised speech in a few hours (with Shoigu afterwards) and there's a speculation that they'll announce a:

BREAKING: Putin declares partial mobilization, the decree has been signed. “Only citizens who are currently in the reserve and, above all, those who served in the Armed Forces, have certain military specialties and relevant experience, will be subject to conscription.“
------
How is it conscription if it is only for those in reserve?
Edit: Conscription in Russia is a 12-month draft, which is mandatory for all male citizens ages 18–27, with a number of exception

ohhh ok

This is insane and I am pretty Russian men are not going to like this. Hopefully it backfires in Russia

Some people said that Western Media was being delusional by saying Ukraine had beaten back Russia by a lot but I guess this shows that Putin is genuinely worried about Ukraine more so now than ever.

So…does this mean that putin will escalate in Ukraine?

What do they mean with that?

Ukraine will surely not recognize the results of an illegally held referendun sponsored by another country. :skull:

The Donbas and Donetsk regions are a part of Ukraine, such a referendum can be held if approved by the UA Parliament. You cant just print some papers and call it a referendum.

However, we know what the results will look like and Russia will use this as an argument. "See, they want to be with us and not a part of Ukraine"...

Inevitably, the botched referenda will come out in favour of Russia. I’m wondering if they’re doing this to then say that Ukraine is invading undisputed Russian territory. Which would allow them to escalate.

Either way, this is ******* disorganised disaster of an “invasion”.

I mean, isn't that what happend in Crimea in 2014? We all know what was the outcome of that, unfortunately.

Sadly, it looks like the same 2014 scenario.

Difference being that no one's gonna accept this annexation. Kinda surprised Putin thought he'd get away with this

Yeah and the momentum is so different now than in 2014 @greeneyedsoul @Pendulum Ukraine is actually capable of fighting back this time. And what happened in Crimea should have never been accepted. The entire EU/USA leadership of that time failed big time.

I think the crucial difference is that Crimea wasn't an 8 year old warzone with most of the people evacuated. There's no way to make this "referendum" appear legit when Russia doesn't even control the full areas that they're claiming and Ukraine already has western support to defend themselves.

This also seems like a very botched way to start mobilization on the pretext of "protecting the Russian land" aka the newly annexed areas because Ukraine has already been bombing military targets in Belgorod for quite a long time now.
