Newjeans did not make Y2k concept popular. Everyone from Doja Cat to Dua Lipa to TWICE/Nayeon had been doing Y2K because it was already hugely popular. Doja Cat's producer is even named y2K. Min Heejin just took a hugely trendy concept and fooled teenagers/gullible adults into thinking it's fresh because a lot of people will consider a trend new when you put kids in it rather than industry veterans like TWICE/Taeyeon/Sunmi/etc.

NJ concept is more stripped back and the music does remind people of 90’s and has those influences. Weekend was a Say So rip off, Talk That Talk was just boring and the entire concept wasn’t Y2K. idk what ur referring too listing those artists because there’s no examples. Dua is more known for the disco concept and Doja i don’t see people saying she started a y2k trend. we can agree to disagree ig 🧐

lauvender Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 do y’all just not want to admit NewJeans is starting a new concept and along with IVE/LSFM they are ending girl crush from being the most popular/go to gg concept? 🧐 I dunno but that’s all I’m trying to say

CandyCoatedClouds Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Starship better be scared. I need them to give IVE the best sounding song of all time. I want them at the back of the charts ASAP!
dlwlrma Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 the y2k of NewJeans is a bit different from the one who popped up last year in kpop Heejin inspiration is basically jpop and kpop late 90/early 2000 jpop back then had a lot of inspiration from hiphop, that colorful aesthetic from 90s like TLC anyway the point is you can see more of the y2k old jpop/kpop on NJ than y2k Britney Paris Hilton barbie bimbo pink whatever

So has Doja. They actually started the trend. It's cute you guys wanna hype up the new group you stan but we don't have to pretend wearing baggy clothes and fluffy winter hats is starting any new concepts in K-pop that people weren't already doing.

worldwide angel Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 i’m starting to like new jeans. they are refreshing but the way people talk about them online can get very pretentious…. no shade ik we’ve beaten the “k-pop companies steals from tinashe” assertions to death and back but everything sans ditto and hype boy somewhat serves a mid 2010s (post amethyst - pre joyride) tinashe plate. from the looks of it OMG will be a bop so i’ll be here with the rest us y’all celebrating! Spoiler and don’t get me started on cookie from the looks of it OMG will be a bop so i’ll be here with the rest us y’all celebrating!

lauvender Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 that user acting obtuse and then discrediting MHJ… it’s giving hater energy and NewJeans anti fr. anyone can see NewJeans didnt do their concept because of freaking Dua Lipa or Doja Cat or Twice & Taeyeon like they aren’t even similar
MAKSIM Posted December 25, 2022 Posted December 25, 2022 Gaudy y2k ala New Jeans has re-emerged as a trend for well over a year now at least. There were tons of runways and write ups at the time on it in 2021. It’s not surprising to see artists jump on it an album cycle later (Flo from the UK in early 2022, New Jeans, etc).
