Hybe made the right call by not going ahead.

they were all average at best (visually and In talent) and at least now they’ll avoid any controversy considering one the members was openly rapping about murdering women in one of his songs (a terrible one at that)

I’m sure hybe will utilise one or two for a new project or even push them for boysplanet in feb.

ok this is y2k

sure

uh oh? that sounded more hip-hop influenced imo

is newjeans not starting a new trend? if it’s not apparent now it will be next year I bet more groups are gonna do the same concept.

twice made the cute concept popular

blackpink made girl crush popular

newjeans made y2k concept popular

thats just what happens every gen…

Not this again. Newjeans did not make Y2k concept popular. Everyone from Doja Cat to Dua Lipa to TWICE/Nayeon had been doing Y2K because it was already hugely popular. Doja Cat's producer is even named y2K.

Min Heejin just took a hugely trendy concept and fooled teenagers/gullible adults into thinking it's fresh because a lot of people will consider a trend new when you put kids in it rather than industry veterans like TWICE/Taeyeon/Sunmi/etc.

Jessica wasn’t even top three best vocalist in SNSD despite her fraudulent main vocal title. Why are they trying it :rip:

hm maybe

If you’re talking about Talk That Talk being Y2K and Weekend by Taeyeon, those are still not the same kinds of Y2K NewJeans is doing. NJ concept is more stripped back and the music does remind people of 90’s and has those influences. Weekend was a Say So rip off, Talk That Talk was just boring and the entire concept wasn’t Y2K.

idk what ur referring too listing those artists because there’s no examples.

Dua is more known for the disco concept and Doja i don’t see people saying she started a y2k trend.

we can agree to disagree ig 🧐

that member (Leo) thankfully left the group in August

https://www.allkpop.com/article/2022/08/hybe-trainee-leo-reveals-he-is-departing-from-trainee-a

I think HYBE kicked him out since they were preparing for debut and they wanted to avoid any controversy (like you said) but something got in their way it seems

do y’all just not want to admit NewJeans is starting a new concept and along with IVE/LSFM they are ending girl crush from being the most popular/go to gg concept? 🧐

I dunno but that’s all I’m trying to say

Starship better be scared. I need them to give IVE the best sounding song of all time. I want them at the back of the charts ASAP!

the y2k of NewJeans is a bit different from the one who popped up last year in kpop
Heejin inspiration is basically jpop and kpop late 90/early 2000
jpop back then had a lot of inspiration from hiphop, that colorful aesthetic from 90s like TLC

anyway the point is you can see more of the y2k old jpop/kpop on NJ than y2k Britney Paris Hilton barbie bimbo pink whatever

Dua Lipa is known for dressing up in early 2000s styles and has started many y2k related trends. So has Doja. They actually started the trend.

It's cute you guys wanna hype up the new group you stan but we don't have to pretend wearing baggy clothes and fluffy winter hats is starting any new concepts in K-pop that people weren't already doing.

they should let Wonyoung choose the demos for them since she's the one who pushed for Love Dive to be released and she also loved After Like

:biblio: i didnt say she created something
but the way a person feels is definitely what matters here more than who created blah blah blah
when i see the y2k from last year i remember Britney Pink Bimbo etc like i already said
meanwhile NJ bring back that feelings of old jpop kpop, hip hop acts the americans and koreans (you had a lot of korean hip hop acts in the late 90/early00s)

and maybe koreans felt the same, NJ y2k remember a bit more their own acts back there

i’m starting to like new jeans. they are refreshing but the way people talk about them online can get very pretentious…. no shade

ik we’ve beaten the “k-pop companies steals from tinashe” assertions to death and back but everything sans ditto and hype boy somewhat serves a mid 2010s (post amethyst - pre joyride)  tinashe plate.

from the looks of it OMG will be a bop so i’ll be here with the rest us y’all celebrating!

Spoiler

and don’t get me started on cookie

She has a good ear for music, the song she wrote when she was in izone (Dreamlike) was also good. They should let her just have creative control. The good sis knows what 'Kunty' sounds like :gaycat5:

People dislike after like and eleven when they stomp LD.
the world has spoken and I don’t think Ive will ever top Ld success wise. It’s just too big. As long they stay consistent they will bag #1 for the next 3 years like twice did.

we ain’t talking about fashion only, we’re talking about the concept as a whole. quit who says Dua Lipa and Doja cat starting the y2k trend? I literally never see them credited for that… just being obtuse on purpose.

wow crediting a man for inspiring her aesthetic and creative ideas as if she can’t do that on her own… Min Heejin couldn’t be inspired by Y2K or 90s influences on her own? that time period probably is important to her.

You don't know that for sure though. If they have something ultra catchy (but not annoying) they absolutely could have the same peak.

that user acting obtuse and then discrediting MHJ… it’s giving hater energy and NewJeans anti fr.

anyone can see NewJeans didnt do their concept because of freaking Dua Lipa or Doja Cat or Twice & Taeyeon like they aren’t even similar

Gaudy y2k ala New Jeans has re-emerged as a trend for well over a year now at least. There were tons of runways and write ups at the time on it in 2021. It’s not surprising to see artists jump on it an album cycle later (Flo from the UK in early 2022, New Jeans, etc).
