I feel like this is an accurate ranking tbh...at least for digitals anyway (but we know that's not the whole picture). I would place Sistar lower than KARA.

KARA overall had more success because of their Japan breakthrough and time has shown that they have more longevity too.

Sistar had a cute run of throwaway hits, but their physical sales were really poor compared to KARA. They were very much a singles artist.

Not to mention Sistar's success was plagued by suspicions of sajaegi and fraud by Starship for many years.

They did well, but KARA is overall above them. Even though KARA never had a hit as big as Alone or So Cool etc. they came close with Lupin and Step in terms of digital downloads, but their strong physical sales, success in Japan puts them above Sistar imo.

There are others who would probably move up and down when we include physicals, digital downloads etc. too, such as f(x).

I didn’t include their Japanese career but if it was included they would’ve been right below 2ne1.

also y’all look down on wg and davichi. Davichi has the most amount of hits for a girl group (their year end entries are from 2008 to 2021) and every song released by WG went #1 on melon except for Irony (which was also #10)

weren't they the digital queens circa de 2010~2012? sooman was shook

They pulled ahead for 2 years but never passed SNSD's career totals during that period, SNSD also butchered on them in touring, albums, and the T-ara peak was almost non-existent outside of Korea and China(Bo Peep did okay in Japan tho). 3rd gen groups who can do stadiums all around the world still haven't touched SNSD's digitals and rely on physicals which are now distributed in dozens more countries and can be bought several times per person to claim they surpassed SNSD.

I think fandom culture and how competitive it is makes a lot of people overlook exactly how gargantuan SNSD's peak era was. They were regularly outselling their 2nd gen bg counterparts, no gg since can claim that, not even in 2022 with the big explosion in gg popularity. :toofunny3:

Also some of the mega hits like Tell Me by Wonder Girls and Lies by Big Bang were disadvantaged in Melon because during the near end of 1st gen and mid-aughts of kpop (01 to 05) Bugs and Soribada used to be the #1 and #2 streaming platforms by a huge margin. After the Korean government shut them down for not paying the record labels for copyright, the biggest music charts for 06 to 08 was Cyworld and not MelOn. Cyworld was like a Korean equivalent of MySpace. MelOn became the number one streaming/download platform in 2009.

Case in point, Tell Me's year end chart position for Cyworld music chart was #3 (I'm assuming that it would've been number one if it was released earlier, but it was released in September), but #26 (2007) and #95 (2008) for Melon. Same for Bigbang as Lies was #1 on Cyworld Y.E Chart but #15 on MelOn. There was quite a disparity between Melon and Cyworld/Bugs/Soribada pre 2008~9.

we need another group filled with TRUE triple threats. no other group is as well rounded when it comes to ACTING.

nowadays we're just grateful if a group is able to sing live :deadbanana2:

Baby, I promise you that not even those of us who were T-ARA fans during their reign considered them beacons of talent. Aespa, Le Sserafim, NMIXX and ITZY are all infinitely more talented (even if they lack the discography).

I think it’s because everyone realizes how much manipulation there was on digital charts. It’s hard to take anything serious with Korean charts.

The nostalgia that this just brought back. I can remember when record labels would beef with a platform and suddenly your fave would become a digital flop…only for the record label to team up with a separate platform and your fave would fly up the charts.

SISTAR were not lower than KARA and T-ARA lol. KARA was flopping in Korea for YEARS despite having a much bigger fanbase. They never had solo success or sub-unit success. Their recurrent streams on YouTube, Melon, and Spotify aren’t good. Same can be said for T-ARA.

Orbits did all that mess during Queendom just for LOONA to start collapsing shortly after. Ahhh.

I love Tara's discography but they're generally faceless, tbh. They had excellent creative direction (before they didn't), and a fantastic producer.

All the girl groups we know today are significantly more talented. The pressure / game is more intense and there is little wiggle room for mistakes.

Yoona's drama had like 40% ratings :giraffe: she also has box office mega hits and 3 Korean Oscar noms. T-ARA wishes

We love to see it

———

ITZY vocal legends confirmed, cause even the main vocalist of 4th gen said that the song was very high and hard to sing :clap3:

Spoiler

Or maybe she meant that it was too high for them, cause she sang it effortlessly

The way just a few cockroach stans of T-ARA who are still obsessed with SNSD are setting the narrative for new generations of fans with outright lies. I aspire to be that dedicated to aespa in 2032. It's giving xtina's remaining base. :bird:

Or what if next year this Queendom: The Uni✚ show takes the highest voted member from Alice, Dreamnote, woo!ah!, Weeekly, Tri.be, Pixy, Craxy, Purple Kiss, Lightsum, Ichillin', Lapillus, Mimiirose, TripleS, Limelight, Fifty Fifty, Queenz Eye, H1-Key, Irris, cignature, CSR and formed a super group.  Certainly that would do something. :keir:  (Is that supposed to be Grinch :/keir:?)
