it’s kinda funny how some group names just scream nugu like “mimiirose” “ily:1” “irris” “CSR” etc. :dies:

NewJeans also sounds like a nugu gg name but they smashed upon debut so who knows what might happen

Most of these were hard reaches but the Red Shoes one...IU, girl... :emofish:

EDIT: wait I literally never noticed that that Producers song literally had uncredited samples from Gimme More in it :deadbanana2:

EDIT2: actually I take it back, she didn't write most of the ones that actually sound similar. Still, though. This is Lee Hyori all over again.

But Not having a tour after 8 years is so weird. I read that they couldn’t tour this year bc Joy was filming but imo it’s not like SM was planning to do it lol. They always act like that. They did the same for Exo with Nct. Exo was the #2 group and could have grow bigger but SM decided to push Nct in America instead and gave them lot of contents!

Red Velvet have toured tho, Redmare had mostly shows outside of SK (including several stops in the US)

that being said we need something bigger :jonny6:

True but A lot of Koreans man, especially the teens/uny students are more interested in K rappers/ urban artist.

Jay park, Zico, BEO, Big Naughty, Ash Island, Changmo all managed to score top 10 hits meanwhile BG struggled to chart lol.

Heck even Crush scored a top 5 hit this year!

They do tho :clap3:girl groups have a lot of fanboys, it’s a common thing in Korea. They aren’t very loyal tho, see what happened with Twice.

A lot of them are definitely listening to (and more importantly thirsting over) those girl groups. Some groups like G-Idle, RV and STAYC probably have more female and queer fans but twice's uncle fans are still very much alive, and likely moved on to IVE or something, since IZ*ONE had like over 70% of male fans.

I think a part of it has to do with Korean mentality - for them it's more normal to listen to something cute and "girly" compared with the Western stereotypes, but of course some (or most) of them view the ggs as a sеxual interest first, music second

same thing with Japan, where many adult men tend to be fans of lolicon

Korean GP generally just not interested about Kpop after 2nd Gen

And yeah Korean men are more interested towards K-Hip Hop recently and this is why Show Me The Money was popular.

Looks like Bigbang is one of the only exception to the point VIPers are joking they're being a girl group now. Like literally they're the only BGs to achieve PAK this year and not to mention they being respected among the Khip-hop communities as well.

Big Bang, mostly. :cm:

I'll just confirm what's already been posted and say they'll listen to k-hiphop when they're angry and they'll listen to specific ballads when they're depressed and they'll turn to pretty girl groups when they want to escape the anger and the depression.

:cm:

Interesting. The way all of y’all spilled and gave me the tea on these Korean men :clap3:

Felix not being last invalidates this list, that boy have no vocal talent. Like not even a nice tone.

Felix can somewhat sing compared to RM and Suga though :skull:

girl it was a huge controversy at the time, to the point that she had to delete the song from existence

in 2015 she was almost canceled for having a lot of controversies, plagiarism (which koreans hate) pedoph... accusations because of some song she wrote and etc... but she was able to bounce back and she's been playing it safe since then

now she's going for that cookie cutter image and it's been working so good for her

Itzy concept is teen crush while LSF is targeted at a more adult target group. Itzy concept has always been sassy self confident teens having fun and saying what they want even adults disagree and stuff like that. Therefore BLY and Sneakers are very much on brand with the target group, it’s just not always I wanna be different blah. So song choices make sense. As for growing up and concept switch I don’t see that happening with the increasing album sales. The only ones who might get a concept switch are NMIXX.

That's part of the "I'm so different" persona though. Also every group has too mature. Can't stay the same forever, especially as they age and grow out of their current demographic.

I know people were mad but I'm so glad they got to release this song instead of CLC. had they released it, it never would have been heard. Because of IZONE it's one of the most iconic 4th gen girl group songs.

At least my girls are breaking records :coffee2:

We can say now that they will promote ANTFRAGILE in U.S soon.

I do remember that but I thought the controversy was that it just sounded too much like Gimme More, I didn't realize it actually sampled it :rip:

She's one of my earliest k-pop faves so I'm always rooting for her but if that video's going around with k-netz it's got some eerie similarities to what happened to Lee Hyori in 2010.

Generations is EVERYTHING :gaygacat5:

Girls really left the dudes in the dust this year wow. Like it's not even close and I don't see how boy groups can recover next year even if SM, Hybe and JYP debut brand new groups.

Boy groups are OVER :clap3:

I see male solos just taking over and leaving boy groups behind tbh

19.8k pure sales for ANTIFRAGILE in the US:clap3:great numbers for a rookie group. I think they will start some promotions in the US and collaborate more with western artists after 1 or 2 years just like TXT.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but outside of BP and TWICE, boy groups generally are still making more money than girl groups. They sell better, have bigger tours and bigger dedicated fanbases, which is what a lot of companies actually strike for.

Some of these new popular girl groups right now are still only carried by the GP and the GP will move on eventually after a new girl group debuts after them. And if these girl groups don’t have a big fandom to rely on, then they will be over. For example, look at all the 3rd gen girl groups now, outside of the BP, TWICE, RV trinity.

Luckily girl groups like BP, TWICE, ITZY, aespa etc. have some of the biggest fandoms in Kpop even bigger than most boy groups, which is why they will never be over, even if they underperform on charts etc. cause they still sell albums like boy groups :clap3:
