Midnights is so cleverly written. Just listening to mere Glitch ( one of my favorites actually ) demonstrates how she expanded her Blank Space capacity ( considering that one is one of hers pop gems ) to incorporate nuanced view of the topic at hand.

The album’s sound isn’t that much bombastic, but this airy production actually lets her show strong atributes.

It really is. Doesn’t make sense at all to see a lot of longtime fans lashing the songwriting on it when it’s lyrically the most reminiscent album of classic Taylor in a long time. 1989/Rep/Lover were very commercial pop and more melody/production focused and then folkmore were her 70s folk songstress era. Midnights is totally in line with her first 4 albums lyrically, it meshes completely autobiographical lyrics with clever deliveries of certain phrasings. It’s not flowery like folkmore but it serves its purpose perfectly.

Are they still on good terms?

Thankfully yes. He attended the Eras tour with his family (she gave them free tickets) and still praises her randomly once every few months. He really likes and respects her :deadbanana4:

I assume the only reason they haven’t shown any signs of working together again is because he doesn’t co-direct, with zero exceptions - even for her. But with that said, Blake directed IBYTAM all on her own so Tay is clearly still willing to occasionally hand her videos off to someone else. I hope she does that in this case.

Midnights is an excellent pop album and critics agree. GP love it too.

I still can't believe Blake gave us the better video :chick3:

She’s a great director ngl. IBYTAM might be in my top 10 Tay videos. Love it so much, and the outfits :jonny5:

I’m not one to hate her solo-directs though, I think only two of them (The Man and Lavender Haze) are arguably bad. But I’m so excited to see her improvements as she continues directing and gaining more experience. I think her self-directed MVs will improve a lot in the coming years.

Cardigan music video was stunning. It's all downhill after that because of silly easter eggs.

Yeah, I’ve noticed it’s mostly a stan twitter/stan spaces (and snobby music circles) that have a hate boner for Midnights. It’s especially obvious, and extremely hilarious, when you go to AOTY and see it’s tagged as yet another Must Hear album for her with an 80+ critic score and yet the user score is like a 60 and even lower than Lover :bibliahh:

If not a single thing was changed about the album except: 1. Jack’s name being replaced on the credits with someone else (like Aaron or anyone else really) but without the sounds changing at all, and 2. It being half as commercially successful — it wouldn’t have snobby, terminally online people foaming at the mouth over it. The hate for it is so forced and transparent. This is why I adore seeing GP reactions because it’s definitely one of her most instantly beloved records for critics and GP.

The way I was too mesmerized by her, that it took three replays to hit me that TV was playing :dies:

Exactly. The hate is so forced. Midnights has literally zero skips imo, it's so cohesive and easy to listen to in full.

I'm curious of how she will play out SNTV with Cruel summer smashing. Will she even push a single for SNTV :rip: and it seems like this week is perfect to release a video but she should avoid it because of Olivia otherwise she's gonna get labelled all kind of things.
