IBeMe Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago songs that are bound to have a viral moment / revival in the future: Midnight Rain YOYOK False God Guilty As Sin? So It Goes I just FEEL it in my bones that these songs will someday have a Cruel Summer revival (delulu I know) or at least a residency in the 1M daily streams club like Dont Blame Me etc... It does not mean these songs are my favs btw. Some of these I do not really enjoy all that much (actually I am lying I LOVE all of them) but i just know they will have a moment...like it cant not happen
Cruel Summer Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I'd say my top five at this point from TTPD:A are… The Prophecy I Hate It Here I Look In People's Windows The Albatross The Black Dog Honorable mentions to The Bolter and The Manuscript (horribly underrated). Lots of "The" tracks shining for me! Now, my most played tracks from it this year are Fortnight, GAS?, and imgonnagetyouback, so obviously I love both of the two distinct sounds on this album, but for some reason I feel like the Anthology half - probably just as a consequence of its genre - has more longevity, it's aging better. It lends itself more easily to a long-term experience, the same way albums like Evermore sustain themselves for a lot of us (and it's not lost on me that Evermore is The Anthology's closest sonic analogue in her discography). But also, on the other hand, some tracks on the standard edition are aging better, for me, than prior pure pop albums she's done! Fortnight continues to hold and expand its lead as my most played song of the year, it just doesn't get old - and the last time Taylor had my top song of the year was probably The Archer in 2019, if I had to guess (I know another artist snatched it 2020-2023). I can see it settling in nicely - pop Taylor really gave us some classics on Midnights, the 1989 vault, and TTPD. Before Midnights, I was really not keen on the whole "back to pop" thing, but I'll whine a little less now if she stays in that lane for one or two more albums (although, to be candid, I expect her to pivot because I think some part of the lukewarm critical reception for TTPD, aside from weird reviews of her celebrity persona over the music, is that it was largely composed of sounds she's worked with before, and I think she knows that). This has sort of turned into a think piece on where she's at in her career so I'll just finish by saying that I really hope she brings sounds like Evermore and The Anthology into regular rotation in her future albums, despite the meh critical reception this time. She just shines so much in that lane - and I hope she collaborates with Big Red Machine, The National, Bon Iver, etc. and all the people involved, as well. Her massive star status has remained bright longer than expected so I'm not delusional enough to assume it'll fade any time soon, but as she looks toward the next long portion of it, settling into that creative lane and helping to shape it with those artists would be a really cool niche for her to fill, if she starts to pull away from radio-ready pop. I've mentioned the Sable, EP by Bon Iver here recently; its song Things Behind Things Behind Things is a really good example of a direction I'd like to hear from her in the future, building a little on that folksy, magical feeling that The Anthology had, with that same darker and more introspective feeling. Really the whole thing is good, all three tracks - it really showcases how Bon Iver fits as a collaborator in the Taylor sphere. Now imagine - where can a mind like hers, with collaborators like this, take this type of sound in the future, building on it to make something new and even better? 2

Cruel Summer Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago totally random but I just realized that her current string of official radio singles marks her longest consecutive top ten streak ever on the BBH100, since she never got to more than five back in the day #1, Anti-Hero #2, Lavender Haze #2, Karma #1, Cruel Summer #3, Sl*t! #1, Is It Over Now? #1, Fortnight #3, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart Because it was desinglified in the US and not released to radio here, Sl*t probably doesn't actually count, so she's at 7 - which is nothing record-setting but pretty respectable. Her previous streaks for full radio singles and the singles that ended them have been these: #9, Fearless #2, Today Was a Fairytale #3, Mine #6, Back To December #11, Mean #1, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together #7, Begin Again #2, I Knew You Were Trouble #20, 22 *Ronan also kind of broke this streak in the middle, but as a non-radio charity single, I'm not counting it #1, Shake It Off #1, Blank Space #6, Style #1, Bad Blood #5, Wildest Dreams #18, Out Of the Woods #2, I Don't Wanna Live Forever #1, Look What You Made Me Do #4, …Ready For It? #18, End Game #2, Me! #2, You Need to Calm Down #10, Lover #59, Christmas Tree Farm #1, Cardigan #6, Exile #45, Betty This particular kind of chart factoid is super interesting to me because it means basically nothing in the modern context of how music is consumed, but it used to be a way more relevant thing to follow. In the 80s and 90s, Janet and Madonna set the record for most consecutive top ten hits among fully promoted singles, with 18 and 17 respectively (and Madonna has 16 consecutive top five hits). Whitney and Mariah had 12 and 11 early on in their careers. I remember wondering if other contemporary artists who broke out in the late 2000s could get there, with Katy having 10 consecutive top tens, Kesha having 7, and Gaga having 11, but Taylor never got meaningfully close due to various circumstances. One such factor is being a multi-format artist early in her career - the same thing similarly limited Rihanna, for example, to a streak of 4 at best. It'll be interesting to see how far she gets, since it seems like she can sort of artificially inflate it - make something like Down Bad a single now to fill time, only pick post-release singles from the next few albums (rerecordings or otherwise) that already debuted top ten, etc. This is already a pretty long streak when you narrow the scope to top three hits, but that reaches the point of splitting hairs. This has been your needlessly obscure bored Swiftie chart factoid of the day 3
