YellowRibbon Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago But people almost called me schizophrenic when I posted about it a few days ago 5
Cleanromantic Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago The way Lover was the most acclaimed album of her entire career up until 2019 and we're still expected to take critics seriously. Spoiler I love lover but you all did not spend half a decade trashing it to back track now 2

mael Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) Isn't it curious how none of TTPD's songs made it on any of the major year end lists? Edited 13 hours ago by mael
Taylor fanboy Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago 17 hours ago, wastedpotential said: Anyway in other news, the guy at Stereogum who has been reviewing every #1 hit finally made his way to Look What You Made Me Do, and I think we need to have a conversation. This is a camp classic, and yet... it's not being treated as such. Yes yes it's nearly diamond and has several billions of streams across all platforms, and yes yes its absolutely cataclysmic chart collapse is iconic, but... we don't discuss it enough? Like... why aren't we still writing op-eds dissecting every bit of this song? There's more to be said, and I know y'all aren't lazy because I see how much money you have to throw at her. I'm a notable Obsessed Reputation Hater, and while I'm underwhelmed by much of the album, I truly believe Look is just pure and excellent cigpop. The chorus is intentionally terrible and repetitive, and the bridge is incredibly theatrical and corny, and it sounds a bit like a drag queen diss track, and it samples I'm Too Sexy (also cigpop, no matter what people tell you), and straight people absolutely hate it, and it serves so much cuñt that you can see it from space, and yet... y'all can't be bothered to pick up its crown and give it the praise it deserves. It's so bad that it's good, ironically and unironically, unlike other... Taylor Swift Lead Single Syndrome sufferers which are so bad they're irredeemable. Don't even get me started on the collapse of a tour rendition. Why aren't we making threads about this song at least once a month? Where have we been led astray? Have we been beaten down so thoroughly by the THOTS lashings that we can't even get up and fight back, even with this cigpop song that they all love even if they pretend it's terrible? Have some shame, Swifties. Have some class, and have some gumption! FIGHT! FIGHT FOR LOOK! FIGHT FOR HER HONOR! Repent your sins: The article that lead to this mini-rant, if anyone is interested: https://www.stereogum.com/2291216/the-number-ones-taylor-swifts-look-what-you-made-me-do/columns/the-number-ones/ Reveal hidden contents And also his articles on Back Together, Shake It Off, Blank Space, and Bad Blood if you're interested in those either The angle that it's Taylor talking to her Old self, a feud with her own values and beliefs, and with no one else must be studied already. Going deep into trauma, treating her own inner child and finding darkness and dwelled on it to fully heal (see TIWWCHNT). She ushered in mental health in pop with her best album. 2

Taylor fanboy Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago "Reputation is that I usually can't remember which co-producers worked on which songs. Everyone pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, and that led to interesting places. It also led to Look What You Made Me Do." Period!

liam13 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago 54 minutes ago, Cleanromantic said: This is such an oversimplified take because Taylor getting acclaimed or not always depends on the media narrative she's going through at that point. Red was not taken seriously and everyone acted like the 3 MM songs were the only songs on that album for years, and WANEGBT was used against her. Red only gained its acclaim by the end of the decade because the swifties kept talking about All Too Well. One of the weirdest takes was the AV club proclaiming that "she finally grew up on 1989" when objectively, Red is more complex and more mature than the oversimplified 1989. And it's not like 1989 was praised either. It only gained the acclaim because she became undeniable as a pop figurehead. And lastly, I don't know how anyone could live through the release of ttpd and read the reviews and still go to bat for critics or still care about acclaim. The response to the album was already decided upon once Midnights won AOTY, and the reviewers were reviewing their feelings about her and pandering to stan twitter instead of reviewing the music. It was hilarious watching them switch so fast when they were praising Red TV 2 years earlier, and ttpd is the closest thing to Red she's ever released. well, if i were talking about it with my own subjective opinions, it wouldn't mean anything cuz it's subjective. so i brought up critical acclaim, not only from critics, but also from fans and the gp (from what i have seen) people have always been complaining about jack but seriously, if you check his works with other artists, he has a lot to offer and he did a pretty great job producing other artists' music too. when it comes to taylor tho, don't tell me you don't here the similarities in the productions of not just original albums like midnights and ttpd, but also 1989 tv vault tracks. there's a reason why people complained about 1989 tv vault tracks sounded like midnights' rejects. maybe if she'd actually wanted to sonically change her music, we would've had another 1989/folklore and parts of puta type of genre switch. but i guess she didn't and yall should give her some draggings too since she also has producing credits 1

every1blinks Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I'm screaming at how seriously this fanbase takes producers. It's kind of amazing ngl but the world will not end if she slaps a few Max tracks on an album. Be worried if you see her in the studio with Joel Little 6

Cleanromantic Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago And what if I said I prefer Joel Little to MM . Me!, YNTCD, The Man, Only The Young are not only the worst songs in her discography but some of the worst songs released by any pop girl. She was seriously trying to end her career and go the Kary Perry route in 2019. That's the only logical explanation. But she was 100% responsible for the way they ended up sounding. She's not afraid to tell producers to change the sound if she doesn't like it (The lakes) and those songs sounded so cheap and like the filler a pop girl in her 40s would stuff on an album to promote her Vegas residency because she thought they were good. If you actually watch the behind the scenes, poor Joel looked so uncomfortable and embarrassed for her. If she came in with great ideas, I know Joel would be perfect for her. MM is so restrictive and actively tells her to dumb her lyrics down to fit into his soulless mathematician formula
wastedpotential Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 1 hour ago, Cleanromantic said: MM is so restrictive and actively tells her to dumb her lyrics down to fit into his soulless mathematician formula I do get your point and I somewhat agree, but Max has been flopping really hard recently (aside from the Ariana singles, his most recent "hits" include P!nk's Never Gonna Not Dance Again, Ed's Eyes Closed, Lizzo's Special, and The Weeknd's Take My Breath), and his "sound" has been pretty thoroughly left in the pre-covid era by the population in general. Especially in light of the past few years Taylor's had, I have to think that if they did collaborate again, she'd be more able to steer their output somewhere new and interesting All that said, I think we should collectively agree here and now to never bring up this "J**l L*ttl*" person in this base again. It's not healthy and it's not productive, and it could cause damage to our collective and individual mental wellbeing. 4

Be worried if you see her in the studio with Joel Little To be a bit of Joel Little apologist , the production on his songs is actually very good, its just he didn't know Taylor well enough/didn't have power to tell her to shove Me-he-he where the sun don't shine and start over. If they had met during Reputation and not in whatever candy-coated hellscape Taylor was in during Lover, the songs they made would probably be better.
