19SLAYty9 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Remember when people would say she wasn't global as early as 3 years ago and now she's the biggest pop girl globally perhaps ever 🤭
fridayteenage Posted December 13 Posted December 13 no "thank you for these awards, so here's a preorder for reputation taylor's version" I see
ohjulia Posted December 13 Posted December 13 ok I don't wanna be a clown but after seeing that thank you video I suspect we're getting something tomorrow
Cruel Summer Posted December 13 Posted December 13 I know the "it's exactly what I wanted" in the BBMAs video was just a cute tongue-in-cheek comment, but it gave me a bit of a giggle to think there was probably some truth in there love her for being ambitious!

Arrows Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Not to be that fan but… How did Bey win the BBMA for 'top country female artist' when Taylor was #1 on the year-end chart, and every other award at the BBMA's just followed the year-end lists?

They probably won't expire since she's been releasing related merchandise that would fall under those trademarks. Further, and unfortunately for all of us, she could just apply to renew them
Cruel Summer Posted December 13 Posted December 13 I just know some people in the country music community have to be FUMING that she's dominating their genre with catalog sales/streams of rerecordings of ancient albums, by the way. It will never sit right with me how country radio dropped her so aggressively after they took her genre exploration with 1989 onward as some kind of betrayal, so seeing her at #1 among women and #6 overall in the genre without releasing a single track this year that was eligible for their genre charts hopefully stings! Although, if we're being honest about genre and what "country" means as an umbrella term in modern American music, there are a couple tracks on The Anthology that probably could have weaseled their way into eligibility if Billboard's chart staff weren't afraid of rocking the boat. 1

Cruel Summer Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Also, dear Swiffers; I need some recommendations! As a Red/folklore/LPSS/evermore/Anthology girlie who fervently worships at the altars of Birch and The Alcott, I'd like to get a little deeper into the Dessner/Vernon et al. universe of music and similar artists. Can anyone advise as to some albums and tracks to start with? For a little more context, I listened to the recent Bon Iver EP, Sable, today and loved all three tracks. Other tracks in this world I know and love are The National's tracks The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness and About Today. As for other artists related only tangentially, I'm already familiar with some tracks by both The Civil Wars and Joy Williams as a solo artist, and I particularly love her song When Does a Heart Move On from her 2019 album Front Porch. I also can't help but feel that to at least some extent, Fleetwood Mac fits into this same sonic puzzle as a foundational influence on all this music, and I'm already deeply familiar with their work to such an extent that I'm planning to get a couple tattoos based on their song Storms, but would love to hear of artists similar to them. Any recommendations would be appreciated, including new artists to check out as well. Edit: also I can't believe I forgot to list him as a similar artist but yes I know Sufjan, I made a playlist just this morning entitled "taylor swift harvesting the soul of sufjan stevens"

I ended up finding out about The Antlers' album Hospice. It's a lot weirder overall than something Taylor would do, especially in the vocal production. But I absolutely adore this album. I'd suggest the songs Bear, Two or Shiva as "entry points", or you can just go all in on the album. Also, quick warning, the album's theme is a bit heavy. Not that the theme is so unique or whatever, but it tackles emotional abuse in a way that touched me a lot the first time. Edited December 13 by Klein 3

And Hospice is great but too loaded for me most of the time 2 hours ago, Cruel Summer said: Any recommendations would be appreciated, including new artists to check out as well. Since you mentioned sonic influences, I'd suggest listening to Wilco (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot), Elliott Smith (Either/Or), Radiohead (In Rainbows), Arcade Fire (Funeral), Leonard Cohen (You Want It Darker) as I find some of them in Vernon/Dessner's music; for more contemporaries artists I'd say Big Thief/Adrianne Lenker, Laura Marling (Song For Our Daughter), Black Country New Road (Ants From Up There). And (ignore this if you're familiar with it but) you should definitely check out Bon Iver's back catalogue, his first two albums are my favorites 4
