Not gonna quote yall one by one but "avoiding the election cycle" is a good reason for not dropping in Q3/4, I didn't think of that...

I can see that she wanted to flush Matty out of her system ASAP tbh. They way she follows Fortnight with TSMWEL on tour...

am i the only one who is happy she is dragging out the re recordings? I have issues with endings and once she releases the final TV it will be the end of an era :chick3:

No i'm happy she's doing it too. And if anything people should blame the re-recordings for being so successful in the first place, if that wasn't the case she would've released them all by this point. It would be dumb of her to reject great chart opportunities just because some Swifties don't like it.

The fact that Florence had to turn her Insta comments off on the post she made about Taylor because certain fanbases (mostly of the alt-pop demographic) were being vile to Taylor. Patti Smith had to do the same thing when she posted about TTPD.

But ThE sWiFtIeS!!1!1!1!1!

flavor-of-love-new-york.gif

The double standards between the way Swifties and other fanbases are treated is actually insane. And i noticed that, of course, all the people saying that are all OTHs, what a coincidence right? :toofunny3:

Being a Swiftie automatically makes you a bad person but if you endlessly attack Taylor and her fanbase + you give a complete free pass to other fanbases for being the nastiest people alive that makes you a great person apparently :toofunny3:

All of that because people can't stand how successful Taylor is. So every time Swifties defend her from haters (like literally every fanbase does for their faves) that automatically makes Swifties "insufferable" and "cultish", no matter what we say. It's actual gaslighting at this point and i'm not exaggerating.

Despite its long run at #1, I think the album is on the "less mainstream" side of her catalog, and if you view it through that lens it makes sense why she would drop it while in the middle of the tour. It's a bit more of a "for the fans" type thing rather than a "for the general public."

On top of that, she wanted to purge the past relationship drama, avoid the election cycle, and strike while the iron was hottest to aim for her biggest possible first week (but she could have had even bigger if she simply announced it as a double album and put it on shelves as a double album in April, but that's none of my business).

That's actually 100% true and i think it's the reason why critics were not as positive about it (outside of falling into the bandwagon of "Taylor fatigue" of course). It's a VERY personal album and it's not accesible for everyone, it's not her most mainstream in terms of melodies and many of her lyrics on it are about deeper lore in her life, things that most people on the GP would not necessarily understand.

That's why i'm curious to see what TS12 will end up sounding like, i bet it's gonna be more mainstream in a way.

Ttpd was an artistic risk no matter what that side of the internet says. Releasing a deeply dark and negative album with wordy lyrics talking about a relationship that got her so much backlash and her hatred and frustration with fame and her fans at her commercial peak was not what anyone expected. She could've gotten away with another Lover or 1989 given the success of Cruel Summer but she chose to refocus on her OG fanbase with the album, probably in an effort to chase out the eras tour bandwagoners and the annoying folklore stans.

Couldn't have said it better :clap3:

TTPD was anything but safe, it's not what anyone expected it to be, not even hardcore Swifties.

I do wonder if she'll take time to focus on her personal life when Eras is finally over. The TVs are so low effort from her and she has two more to guarantee she doesn't leave the zeitgeist.

If she wants marriage/children (as so heavily alluded to in TTPD) I think post-Eras is the logical time to pursue that. Obviously it's not mutually exclusive with a career, but she's been working so incredibly hard that it's difficult to imagine she'd keep her foot on the gas as much as she has since 2019.

I'm siting at the cemetery listening to ttpd, and let me just say, it ******* goes off :alexz2:

No one said it's safe but it was bit mediocre.

i love all of Tay's music, even songs which I don't like on first few listens usually grow on me overtime but  TTPD tracks haven't (more than half of it sound super stale).

Not @Cleanromantic downvoting every comment which isn't glorifying TTPD as a timeless masterpiece.

I mean i respect your opinion but i completely disagree. TTPD being good or not is entirely up to personal taste and i can see many reasons why people wouldn't like it that has nothing to do with the actual quality of the album.

Currently obsessed with loml and I Hate It Here

Kinda crazy how I'm still digesting some TTPD songs 6 months later. And I'm supposed to care about rushed critics and THOTS reviews :suburban:

from your lips to god's ears! I said it before but the tik-tokification of her stans is the worst thing that happened to the fanbase. I can't keep going on like this lol

Robin is sooo good. When will society wake up

The melodies are gorgeous, especially the "strings - tied - to - levers - slowed - down - clocks - tethered" section.

But within the context of the album, it becomes literally tooooo powerful. "You look ridiculous and you have no idea / Buried down deep and out of your reach, the secret / We all vowed to keep it from you, in sweetness" at the end of an ablum all about Her loss of innocence and dignity - having Your youth stolen from You by a partner, degrading Yourself for fame, getting humiliated in the pursuit of real love :weeps: The concept of Her loving and protecting Her friend's kid, while She's being sh*t-talked under the table, talking rings and talking cradles :weeps: "Youve got a favourite spot on the swing set / You have no room in your dreams for regrets" alluding to the vain hopefulness She once had: "Ain't no way I'm gonna screw up now that I know what's at stake here / At the park where we used to sit on children's swings / Wearing imaginary rings" :weeps:

Let's hyperfixate on the undisputed queer trinity of The Anthology: I Hate It Here - I Look In People's Windows - Peter

But first, a moment for Down Bad

Did you really beam me up?
In a cloud of sparkling dust
Just to do experiments on

She was ******* insane for this :weeps: Oh the pain of being someone's queer experimentation

Did you take all my old clothes?
Just to leave me here naked and alone
In a field in my same old town
That somehow seems so hollow now
They'll say I'm nuts if I talk about the existence of you

AAAAAA :dancehall2: Karlie taking Her old clothes... And "they'll say I'm nuts if I talk about the existence of you"... Must we spell it out...

I'll build you a fort on some planet

Where they can all understand it

How dare you think it's romantic

Leaving me safe and stranded

LIKE???? :dancehall2: The pining for a planet where people are less ignorant... The allusions to 1989 error......

Like I lost my twin

:weeps: I don't think anything needs to be said here.

And needless to say the whole ablum is fraught with queer religious tension... "I just learned these people try and save you / 'Cause they hate you"... "What if I roll the stone away / Theyre gonna crucify me anyway / What if the way you hold me / Is actually what's holy"... "I got cursed like Eve got bitten"

So then, I Hate It Here:

All you'll ever be is
My eternal consolation prize

Ummmm :dancehall2:

You see I was a debutant in another life

But now I seem to be scared to go outside

The fact that debutantes literally come out :dancehall2:

I hate it here so I will go to
Lunar valleys in my mind
When they found a better planet
Only the gentle survived
I dreamed about it in the dark
The night I felt like I might die

More allusions to a better planet, for "gentle"/enlightened people :weeps: Kind of also harkens back to "I wanna transport you / To somewhere the culture's clever / Confess my truth"

I'll save all my romanticism for my inner life

:dancehall2: :dancehall2: :dancehall2:

I Look In People's Windows:

I look in people's windows
Transfixed by rose golden glows
They have their friends over to drink nice wine

The reference to golden :cries: The allusion to "rosé flowing with your chosen family" :cries: The connection to "I peered through a window / A deep portal / Time travel / All the love we unraveled / And the life I gave away / 'Cause he was sunshine I was midnight rain" :cries:

spacer.png

Peter:

Forgive me Peter
My lost fearless leader
In closets like cedar
Preserved from when we were just kids
Is it something I did
The goddess of timing
Once found us beguiling
She said she was trying
Peter was she lying

My ribs get the feeling she did

There isnt a plausible non-queer reading of this, like please

Are you still a mind reader?
A natural scene stealer
I've heard great things Peter
But life was always easier on you
Than it was on me

Aaa it's giving "Everybody wants you / Everybody wonders what it would be like to love you" it's giving "What must it be like to grow up so beautiful"

And I won't confess that I waited
But I let the lamp burn
As the men masqueraded
I hoped you'd return

??????

But the woman

Who sat by the window

Has turned out the light

:dancehall2:

I look in people's windows, transfixed by rose golden glows :dancehall2:

I dreamed about it in the dark the night I felt like I might die :dancehall2:
