Last night I had a dream that she invited me to the studio to hear new music and she played me a new ten minute song called "The Living Room" that depicted a story of a deceased lover. The first verse was about how they watched a movie in her living room on their first date, the second was about when they first had sex on the couch in the living room, the third being was them putting up a Christmas tree in the living room, the fourth was about how she found out that he died in a car accident through a phone call in the living room, and the last one was about how she keeps his ashes in the living room. It was so dramatic and for some reason she had short blue hair and emo makeup in my dream :rip:

TS12 will gag :jonny4:

Tbh her VMA dress had emo/grunge/punk vibes, so hopefully she was teasing TS12 with that look.

I'm screaming at the fact that it could've been THEE track 5! Oh wow :WAP:

NNNNNNNNNN :deadbanana4: :deadbanana4::deadbanana4:

If THAT had been track 5 I'd probably hate that album so much more :deadbanana2:

Spoiler
Spoiler

yes sometimes I defend that song but still like... there is a sanctity to the track 5 (when She's not shitting on it with ill-fitting anturnoff turds like The Archer) and that would destroy it :deadbanana2:

I regret to inform y'all that She picked the wrong version of this song to go on evermore!! :giraffe:

She went with this version:

Why not simply have both? I finally included Renegade on evermore right before the closure and when I tell you it's a collapse to do Renegade -> closure -> evermore -> rwylm -> ittg... :WAP:

Oh see I'd like to have both as well but they're basically the same instrumental and I think Renegade is better written and far more... shall we say honest about the situation at hand, and I do think that from a sequencing and soundscape perspective, having only one was better for the sake of evermore

Long Story Short is notable for being probably the last unadulterated Hobo love song we get and I guess that's worth something, but I far prefer Renegod, obviously :giraffe:

Spoiler

I've inserted Renegod between No Boulder, No Christ and Hymnalness but I'll try your sequence because I've changed my mind about where to put it a million times and I'm not sold on where it is :gaycat4:

She's a writer. She probably wrote the story first and meanwhile was thinking about how it would look on the screen. Just like how she writes songs and thinks about how it would look during a tour.

"Mine" just became my 25th song to hit 1000 lifetime plays. It's Taylor's 18th song and the 5th from Speak Now to hit this mark.

We're getting close to 6 months of ttpd.

I think that the album grew on me a lot, but still in retrospect I can say that this one has the lowest percentage of essential songs.

With the other albums I could count on one hand at most the songs I could take out and never hear them again, with some albums (folkmore, 1989) there's 1 at most.

With ttpd on the other hand, I could take out a good third of the album and forget that it existed.mp3.

Don't get me wrong, the songs are still beautiful, well written, enjoyable etc., but I feel like she could tell the story with much less.

What are your thoughts, it retrospect in general in the album?

-15 songs that I really like and regularly listen to, 12 of which are currently in my top 100 best Taylor songs (although a few may drop out when the new wears off). This includes 9 Anthology songs and only 6 from the standard album.

-8 songs that I like but don't listen to much. The decent filler, basically.

-8 songs that I don't really listen to at all, half of which I think are career lows. 6 of these songs, including 3 of the career lows, are from the standard album—and they include multiple "fan favorites" (the fandom schism can't come soon enough).

With most Taylor projects, even Midnights, I was still playing them on heavy rotation by the six month mark.

I don't see that in my listening pattern with TTPD. I think there were too many songs released at one time. The anthology half should've been released a month or two after the standard to let us sit with the first 16 songs for a bit.

Searched "signed guitar" on twitter to check the discourse and the fact that these two instances happened within a week is insane :toofunny2:

I pretty much stopped listening to The Anthology except for The Bolter.

I have a playlist combining Midnights and the standard version of Tortured Poets trying to organize them in a way that flows well.

I have another with folklore, evermore, The Anthology, and some of the 3am tracks of Midnights.

At first I thought - well, that's a lot of songs that will just take time to digest. So I focused on around 16 songs, and left the others for occasional listens, and that's the first time that after a couple of month I don't know all of the songs by heart.

Midnights (till dawn edition) was also quite long, but 20ish songs are still manageable. It also feels like it had a theme, a story, which TTPD lacks for some parts.

Hmm I'm at around the same numbers like you :coffee: Care to share?

The Bolter is top 1 in the anthology
