Or maybe Midnights is not that repeak you all speak about and simply REPUTATION was more dominant.:giraffe:

This is what someone would say if they weren't ready to admit that reputation was a front loaded, nearly career-ending album that burned a lot of her goodwill with pop radio and the industry at large :gaycat4:

Damage that I'd argue was finally repaired by Midnights, ironically enough :ryan3:

Ouuh let me put on Lavender Haze, nothing like listening to Midnights front to back to the smell of people fuming at Midnights' record-breaking smash success :gaycat4:

now I wouldn't say Lavender Haze is the best way to argue Midnights' superiority over reputation but... Period sis, let the OMidnightsH and the OJackAntonoffH know :gaycat4:

versus

Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street, Death by a Thousand Cuts, and… maybe Afterglow & Paper Rings?

6 A+ tracks versus 3-5, rep wins :sorry:

Your thoughts on False God? :celestial5:

Posted (edited)

every album by her sells a lot first week. Doesn't mean Rep was a success in the first 2 years. Are we really faking that already in the peak streaming era that album didn't have a song in the top 100 of spotify 5 months after the release? :ninja:

spotify 02 feb 2018 (album came in late october)

end game #107

look what you made me do #188

:duca:

It was a flop with some late flame thanks to delicate radio success (but not organic overall) and the tour was her first really epic scale tour, which made a new kind of people fan of her. I can admit this.

It feels a little rushed/unfinished/demo’d to me. It’s not -as- good as everyone tries to make it out to be. I mean, it’s ok but the central metaphor is kind of weak and that makes some of the lyrics fall flat. I do appreciate her experimenting with a sound and genre/vibe she hadn’t dabbled in before and I hope she pushes further into contemporary jazz in the future because that’s a goldmine of creativity when it comes to live studio musicians!

das my opinion

Frontloaded? It literally is #21 on the year end and it's ABOVE Midnights on Apple Music Usa. It looks like the frontloaded fad is Midnights.

And Lover (an album I don't like, don't get it twisted) is at #9 on the 2023 YEC, so it's not as if Reputation is doing anything special there either. Apple Music is remarkably finicky, hip-hop oriented, and track-driven, and Don't Blame Me has always performed very well there. That doesn't mean Midnights isn't doing 2.5M more/day on Spotify than Reputation, or that Midnights has spent nearly 6x as many weeks in the BB200 top 10 as Reputation (or that its tracks have spent a combined 47 weeks in the H100 top 10 while Reputation's tracks spent a combined 9 weeks :gaycat4:

Oh wow oh wow another Puta vs Loser and another Puta vs Godnights fight.

Guess what they all had in common? Puta stans scrambling because it's the least successful pop album by a long shot, and battling with Lover for the worst quality-wise. :ryan3:

What they all have in common is that none of her pop albums are in the top 5 of her discography.

It's been especially delicious to see Cruel Summer spend 4 weeks at #1 after all these drags about Loser being without a #1 hit. Loser actually ended up getting one of her 5 biggest hits ever.

I’d start a “delete one of Taylor’s last 4 studio albums” poll but it’d be boring because everybody knows there’s only one correct answer.

This is indicative of a public health crisis. Clearly, people are still suffering from COVID symptoms because this is a mass example of a complete absence of taste :deadbanana4:

Well yes, I think the majority of us will agree that Reputation and Lover sit comfortably in the 8-10 range of her discography rankings. Thus, any list asking us to choose between her two best albums, her best pop album (don't @ me), and one of her worst albums will only have one correct answer :ryan3:

If you extended that poll to include Taylor's last 5 studio albums, things might get more interesting :gaycat1:
