Miss Americana is actually in my top 4, False God is #5 and Cornelia Street is #6. The other two though, I had a good laugh

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.  :khalyan2:

Lover is the only good song on Lover, but the ballads especially SUCKED ass.

Imagine some mans dick making u write All Too Well, but your mother gets cancer, & u write Soon You'll Get Better

And don't get me started on Afterglow & Daylight

:clack:

The Jack Antonoff produced NYD should've been a warning sign on the nightmare to come.

Cruel Summer is a good song melodically & lyrically, but that insufferable Hack production ruins it x

:clack:

Folklore gave me chills on first listen especially because it came after Lover, & i had lost all hope in her:jonny5:

Lover has Death by A Thousands Cuts and Cornelia Street, among others, which are songs that prevent any possibility of Taylor losing her touch.

Lover is a great song y'all need to stop picking a good song to trash every other day :gaycatx: and now 1989 is better than folklore? Lord help us

also duh at the pop stuff not being "as good" as her country material (though that theory is out the door since folklore and evermore exist and some pop songs like BS), country requires storytelling, pop does not and she knew that and even then her lyrics destroyed anything any other big pop girl was releasing

Why didn’t Taylor go independent after the Big Machine fiasco? She literally could have done it. Why did she sign with Republic? Has she ever said anything?

When did the midnights Spotify announcement come out? If bad bunny broke the record it should be reported now right?

Did someone post the NYT cover story?

Cornelia Street is cute but it’s one of her most bland bridges. Bridge is clunky.  Brings the song down.

Look, Taylor is a huge star for sure but i don't think she would be as successful as she is now as she was independent. Labels still matter wheter we like it or not.

Yeaaaaah, the opinions in here gets weirder and weirder every day. 1989 is a great pop album but in which universe is it better than Folklore? :rip:

It was posted here in the base, but no thread was ever made.

just came out of the theater, it was really cute! pretty straightforward tbh. it really felt like you were there and she looked so beautiful. Cruel Summer was just  :smitten: hated the eras title cards though, visuals are just not her thing nnn

however, not sure if it’s because we have been constantly fed (or spammed) Taylor content for a literal entire year non-stop, but watching the Reputation Tour on Netflix felt more special for some reason?

I will never be the kind of stan who complains about having too much (especially compared to my other fave) but the burnout is lowkey real

Considering that they had no clue folklore existed it sounds like she’s basically doing whatever the **** she wants anyway

The label probably primarily takes care of stuff like distribution (pressing the vinyls, talking to the big store chains and shipping them there etc.) which would just be an extra headache for her team.  It’s obvious she has full control of her masters, creative control, business deals like the AMC one etc, and Republic is probably just happy to get their small cut

It’s because everyone has watched the damn tour on TikTok or YouTube thousands of times so watching it again on screen for 1000 +1 times feels nothing special. But the tour is a true cultural phenomenon. Rep tour made no noise outside the tour attendees before its move to Netflix. I guess if the burnout is real, TS11 or 1989 TV will flop now.

The success of Anti-Hero, Karma, and Cruel Summer on the radio this year are the perfect proof as to why she stuck with a label. Yes she does have her own radio people, but they deal more with the technical aspects of a radio release. Getting a song to #1 on radio requires a herculean effort and deep, deep connections with specific people in specific places, and the team at Republic had built that over the years. The same goes for things like global physical distribution and promotion and video production (even if they aren't funding her videos, which I'm pretty sure is the case, her label is still in charge of staffing the technical side of video production), among other things. They run Grammy campaigns and the like. There's no reason why Taylor couldn't do all of that herself, but she probably got a very significant advance from Republic and is also probably allowed to keep the vast majority of her revenue aside from that, and there was no reason for her to pass that by just for the sake of artistic independence from her label, since she already really has that. A little over a year into her contract with Republic, she showed up to their office with a fully completed album with a full photoshoot and music video and promo campaign completed or planned, and told them she wanted to release it in a week (and then she did it again six months later). That's the literal definition of complete artistic freedom, and I don't see what else she would've gained from going independent.

Taylor never was against music labels themselves, all she wanted was the rights to her masters. Republic gave that to her, along with their substantial industry backing. And in return she has easily become their most profitable artist. It’s a win-win.

sis there’s no need to be shady :rip: just because I am saying there is a burnout FOR ME doesn’t mean that i’m expecting TS11 or 1989 TV to flop, like what?

It wasn’t a shade lol. Consider it a joke.
but you were right about one thing, rep movie was much better. Eras movie didn’t capture many things properly, that enchanted part left so many details.

Just finished watching at the theatre. The audio was out of sync for the entire show following don’t blame me

I complained twice to staff and they told me there’s nothing they can do as this is what they were sent and all showings will be the same

Can anyone confirm if they experienced this too?
