I like Olivia and her music (SOUR was one of my favorites of 2021 and I’m still perched for the new album), but she and her team knew exactly what they were doing. The song clearly isn’t about Taylor and she could’ve easily cleared it up, but that doesn’t generate headlines. She really has learned from Taylor, hasn’t she? :dies:

I feel like it’s silly and pretty obvious what happened with Deja Vu and G4U, no? I don’t think Olivia intentionally “stole” from Taylor or Paramore, but the fan bases quickly caught on to the similarities, which in turn had Olivia and her team feeling some pressure, and they went ahead and gave credits to everyone. I do feel like this is what may have soured (for lack of a better word :rip:) Olivia on Taylor recently; I’m sure she may have felt a bit bullied by fans tbh. The same could also be said in regards to Paramore; I feel like I haven’t heard Olivia mention them in a while, either.

All in all, I don’t think there’s any personal ‘beef’ between Olivia and Taylor, I just think it’s clear that Olivia didn’t like how the situation played out, and she’s since distanced herself from being “the fangirl” because of it.

Very reasonable take honestly.

Even without the whole credits thing, she was thrown into the foray of pop music and was THE defining popstar of 2021 by a mile. The logical step would be to distance herself from another artist who is still in their prime who she publicly came out as a megafan of.

She knows she's no longer playing C/B-list relevant gigs, she became an A-list popstar overnight so it made sense for her to distance herself. The credits was just added salt to the wound.

I honestly think she just probably outgrew her Taylor obsession + busy with the pressures of major popstar life + trashy relationships = distanced herself.

I wonder if we'll get You're Losing Me on streaming on Midnights 1st anniversary. Although that's a week before 1989 TV so who knows.

It’s super weird. Like never mind any conversation that was going on in here or the general tone this thread usually keeps, here’s a bunch of nonsense and some flame bait posts from some thread that could have just been closed. It reminds me a little of that time we were told to stop making threads because she was breaking too many records.

Right now would be perfect to release You're Losing Me:

1) She's currently on break so this could be an opportunity to "revive" Midnights (not that it needs it but ykwim).

2) The real reason: I want it and I'm tired of listening to it on Youtube.

To this day this arbitrary rule still baffles me, especially since there is absolutely no limit on the amount of flame bait threads that are allowed. But somehow, the 5 threads a week (no longer than a page or two) about a milestone was annoying

So real :dies: I bet it would've gotten a cute top 20 Hot 100 peak if it was available from the jump, it was EVERYWHERE that first week

I would be interested in knowing if it happens with any other artist’s base thread, but I’m not going to venture into one to find out.

And don’t even get me started on the “too many threads” thing. :toofunny3: I’m not one to usually complain about ATRL’s rules, but there has literally never been a rule even similar for any other artist before.

Seriously wondering if TIME will make Taylor their Person of the Year 2023. I know it seems impossible, but I think her unprecedented cultural impact this year leaves open a possibility. :dies:

At least, I think it's guaranteed that Billboard will make her their Woman of the Year.

I do wonder if anything is planned for September. It would only be logical for her to take a "real" break, but since we've been fed constantly since March I'm just wondering if she has something coming up this month too.

I also wonder why You're Losing Me was only released on QQ Music. Why isn't it also on Spotify/Apple Music etc...?

She will reveal the pink vinyl cover and probably something related to gaining more sales for 1989 tv, but I don't think she will give us anything else besides that. I doubt she'll attend the VMAs, although who knows with this woman. October will be chaotic.

Be real, did any of y'all think she would ever be this big/omnipresent? Like I know she's always been massive and relevant, but this is a level of infamy I never thought she (or anyone else, really) would reach.

Everyone in my life likes her now, and it's so weird to me after years of stale jokes about her dating.

I hope she rests a little. She should defi3not do anything this month.

Absolutely not. Late 2022 already felt surreal and that was like half of her current success.

I also have a similar experience. Before Midnights, nobody was really talking about her where I live (France). Since then, and especially since The Eras Tour, she became really popular. She's even making the news and I had never really seen her make the local headlines.

I always believed in her. Just never imagined she would become this huge. Like she was already bigger than everyone else before. Now it's just not even funny anymore.

It’s weird because 1989 felt huge but not this level. She is truly the industry now, her name is on everyone’s lips young and old, you can’t tune out of it. I really didn’t see this coming. After the release of Folklore/Evermore I had accepted that she was going to start slowly retreating to niche status going forward. The Midnights/Eras success is just something else.
