They actually filed for this, and all the Taylor’s Version trademarks, on February 11th, 2021 - the day before Love Story (Taylor’s Version) was released. They just take ages to get approved sometimes, and aren’t actually required for album releases to happen (but may be required for certain merchandise items). Most albums never actually get an associated trademark at all. I also don’t see this status reflected in the actual USPTO application for Reputation or for 1989 despite recent claims of both being approved. I’ve read a few perspectives on forums like Reddit that say these trademarks have almost nothing to do with the when and why of the remaining rerecordings and that fans have just started to fixate on them because trademark issues were causing issues with the Speak Now TV release timeline.
