Just the title Paper Rings is a cringefest. Imagine the reception for the album if Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street, Daylight, False God, DBAC and the title track weren't there to salvage from the wreck.

No one ever claimed the Lover songs are the peak of maturity.

Honestly, it’s kinda troubling that her iconic hits from Fearless and Red are nowhere to be found, to say nothing of the fact that many of her best singles are on Mixtape and Speak Now and they’re not even appreciated by the stanbase.

it would be rude to capitalize on his hype, even if it’s not intentional and even if she has actual hype without the need of anyone else. Also, she waited 6 months, a week or two more won’t hurt anyone...

I get that and I definitely think it should have been on the standard replacing diarrhea or long story sh*t. I just think the deluxe treatment kinda helped it within our fanbase making people love it more and thus getting that "underdog" title

Congrats to ME!'s parent album on those extra weeks in the top 50. Gotta somehow compensate for the deficit in #1 singles, 1M first week sales and multiple weeks at #1 on the BB200. We know LoSer benefitted from poptimism largely due to being marketed as her safe "return to form" pop album. Godputation achieving a 71 amidst a hate train will still be more impressive.

I’m not excited for 1989 TV. I’m sorry but the fact the album starts with Welcome to New York just makes that listening experience a travesty. She’s going to throw away all the goodwill she’s earned the last 3 years when the GP hears that alone   no amount of mature vocals or updated production can save that song. Hell it could get Girl At Home’d and still be terrible.

Love Story is at 637,905 when TV and OG are combined, You Belong with Me is at 560,439; I Knew You Were Trouble is at 553,126 and We Are Never... is at 447,058 so that's enough to shoot all of the big singles into the top 10.

I think it's weird how Fearless (song), Fifteen and White Horse are all wayyyy above the album tracks in streams on the OG album and are nearing the 100 million mark but on Taylor's Version they're only slightly above the albums tracks or even below them (The Way I Loved You is demolishing while Hey Stephen and Forever & Always are slightly ahead/on par with the latter two). Fifteen and, to a lesser extent, White Horse have always felt like pretty big enduring classics but I guess as time goes on only the real big smashes stand out to accumulate big recurrent streams.

 

It's also interesting how Red (song) has eaten up all of the other singles from the original album and will be the first of them to pass the 100 million mark on Taylor's Version (not counting ATW of course). I wonder if that trend will continue over time or if as WANEGBT, IKYWT and 22 TVs get added to new playlists they start to pull ahead.
