State of Grace. Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Why is Suburban Legends so criminally underrated by her fanbase? Those streams are...not giving. Listening to the 1989TV vaults back to back right now and it's kinda my second fave after Out of the Woods 4.0. It might be one of my favorites from ALL of the vaults? 1

She’s very physically fit and is enjoying herself during the performances. So while her schedule and routine might look daunting to us, it might be fun for her.
Goaty Posted January 18 Posted January 18 The pandemic albums are "better," I'd say, but Red is significantly more ambitious. She's writing about "every different kind of missing someone, every kind of loss" and their sounds combined with her first foray into traditional pop hitmaking on top of a label that's kind of fighting her urge to go that direction and this all being done when she's barely an adult yet is FAR more impressive to me than what she did with Folklore and Evermore. The swing was big and although there were some definite misses (SSS, The Lucky One, etc.) it gave us still to this day some of her greatest songs ever.
Goaty Posted January 18 Posted January 18 State of Grace alone is such an achievement of a song to make. And the fact that she did it so young too I don't think there's a song on either pandemic album (other than maybe Cardigan) that I think is as good as it. (It's also the song that got me seriously interested in her music so I'm undoubtedly speaking from a place of deep bias ) 2

I just listened to my 1989TV CD and when Suburban Legends came on I just couldn't get into it. It has some good parts but for the most part it sounds like word salad and the words don't flow right.
foundwonderland Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Am I the only one who can say with confidence that I love 99.9% of Taylor’s discography? Seems like everyone hates 2-3 tracks from each album. The only songs I can say I truly dislike are Ours (I’m still mad this was my surprise song while she performed Death by a thousand CLASSIC the next day in the same stadium) Superman. Oh and of course I hate ME!ss and YNTCD. Other than that she never has any misses. 1

Not necessarily my favorite vault song but people do too much on it tbh. I wish the opening verse was less… dry I guess? But from the first chorus - on, it’s actually a nice song. Spoiler Much better than that AWFUL ai clip that Swifties still pretend to like 1

There are lesser songs, for example I love to **** on Betty, but it’s still a good song. I stan her for a reason, and that’s because I love most of her music. There are songs I would go out of my way to listen to less often, but still. It shocks me to see people labelling 1/3 of each album as a skip or something Edited January 18 by Holiest Dreams 1 1

Even the songs I don't like (Ready for it) I can enjoy from time to time and I know serve their purpose. I think it's because Taylor is so good at diction, she knows how to chose lyrics that suit the sound she's going for without making it repetitive or trying too hard, and i think a lot of people don't get that. When she writes something like Paper Rings or Blank Space or Call It what you want, she's not trying to make the lyrics sound like an all too well or dear John, she uses lyrics suitable for the mood she's going for. That's why I think people coming for the more "campy" lyrics are usually missing the point entirely. I mean sure, she has misfires like Me! And YNTCD every once in a while, but she's successful at it more often than certain people would like to admit. 2
1989 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I can make a (short) list of Taylor songs I don’t like, I genuinely love and like the majority of her discography.

Klein Posted January 18 Posted January 18 And on the topic of genuinely disliking/hating some of Taylor's songs, I have a rather short list: A Place In This World Stay Beautiful A Perfectly Good Heart -- Untouchable Innocent (@wastedpotential don't come for me, love you ) -- Stay Stay Stay This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things I Forgot That You existed Snow On The Beach throw in Macavity also because lord knows I hate this one And the Debut songs are up for a re-evaluation after the TV. 1

People will put down her campy, non-serious songs like Karma and say that is a weakness of hers, but it’s actually her strength. Legendary acts of yesteryear like The Beatles or Elton John became legends because of their versatility — they wrote on both ends of the spectrum. Both the campy, unserious, what annoying internet stans of 2024 would deem as “childish”, and then the serious, detailed, nuanced style, for lack of a better description. Also, I’m not even a Lover hater, but it is funny how the three songs I genuinely hate from her are all from that album (IFTYE, ME!, YNTCD) I don’t like Stay x3 either but I get its appeal for some, so I can’t put it in the ~objectively bad~ category. 36 minutes ago, Lille said: I agree with both of you, there are only two Lord songs that I genuinely hate and the rest ranges from good to Perfect.
