I don't care for like half of Mid's standard version tbh :rip: many undercooked songs that don't add anything interesting to her discography.

The release of the 3AM version was cool bc it was a chaotic surprise indeed, but honestly I wish she had put the best standard and 3AM tracks together and deleted the filler instead... I guess she wanted to make a sonically cohesive (lmao) record, and that's why the standard was all Hack, but a less cohesive, short and stronger album >>> a bloated album with filler tracks.

I wish she would stop with these long ass albums, it has been a problem for a while lol Red, Rep and Lover could all have benefited from having only the best 13-14 tracks, and then 2-3 target bonus tracks like 1989 since that's her thing...

If you don't like certain songs on the album, you're welcome to delete them.

I hope she keeps the long albums coming.

The production on Midnights felt really anemic at times.

"Anemic" is a great way to describe it.

the passive-aggressiveness over nothing lol

I guess you can't really be as massive as her without having a good amount of cupcake stans

anyway, Karma is a great song, I don't know why ppl fixate on that one line when it's not even bad...

I don't hate Jack per se, I just think that it's been 6 albums and she should branch out a bit more.

I NEVER see enough love for Dear Reader and it is top tier on Midnights. The bridge alone >>>

To a house not a home, all alone cause nobody’s there

Where I pace in my pen and my friends found friends who care :wanda:

Dear Reader is my album opener in my re-created playlist. :jonnycat:

Imagine opening a record like THAT!

The track list of MID is lacking a narrative.

"Karma is a cat purring in my lap because it loves me" is a GREAT line. The visual it creates is perfect for the petty and unserious tone of the song.

My Midnights take is the production isnt the highlight of any song on it unlike other albums that had some great moments production wise

Anemic is a great way to describe it tbh. If TS11 is indeed all or mostly Jack again I hope it comes soon cause waiting 2 years for a new studio album on this very soundscape will be disappointing a bit ngl. At least we have 1989TV, RepTV & TSTV to still look forward to tho :jonny5:

I personally feel like Jack's contribution to her music isn't as extensive as it is made out to be...

In reality:
1989: produced very few songs

Reputation: a little more than 1989, got the lead single.

Lover: a large majority (the celebrated songs), but then all the pop singles in 2019/2020 were not Jack's and were produced with a new collaborator and pretty much everyone hated the non-Jack songs.

Folklore/Evermore: both minority being Jack

Midnights: This is a true Jack album.

Like she quite literally had 2/3 of her most recent albums being produced by a new collaborator, and only 2 out of her 6 most recent works have been majority-Jack produced.

vs. someone like Lana (love her), for example who has 3 out of her 4 most recent albums being pretty much exclusively Jack Antonoff.

MID is just that - mid

Following her best album ever with an ok album was a little insane  at least it smashed

Taylor is at 101M monthly listeners on Spotify as of today. What’s the total record for most monthly listeners? I believe The Weeknd holds it? Do we think she has a chance of beating that with 1989 TV incoming?

Maroon, Anti-Hero*, YOYOK, Midnight Rain, Lavender Haze, Bejeweled, Mastermind, Glitch, Dear Reader, You're Losing Me, Hits Different all have fantastic, original, subtle and intricate production. They all sound different from each other yet come together satisfyingly when you listen to Midnights front to back. There are no brash or loud moments because it is a nighttime album, the concept comes together beautifully. Jack haters grasping at straws as usual.

*(except it sounding like a Bleachers song, but Taylor herself has no other song like it)

Edit: forgot to give a shoutout to Godyrinth

If not for that Song about John Mayer the 3am version of Midnights is so boring and forgettable lol, basically at the same level of dessner works with Sheeran.

The thing made folk-more great is they are dessner tracks and Taylor build lyrics and and a major melody over them. When dessner has to produce tracks are hers he is not a great pop producer. Really is not his field :sorry:

Meanwhile standard edition has 3 really great pop songs and they bring on the table something fresh and new for her (something lover didn't expect for the title track).

I hope Taylor stops mimicking Ed Sheeran’s hits. Lover and Willow are giving major Ed Sheeran smashes, Perfect and SOY.

You’re so much better, Mother.

Willow > Perfect > SOY > Lover

Lock broken, slur spoken
Wound open, game token
I didn't know you were keeping count
Rain soaking, blind hoping
You said I was freeloading
I didn't know you were keeping count
But, oh, you were keeping count

Perhaps the greatest outro of all time :heart2:

Second outro only to:

And they called off the circus
Burned the disco down
When they sent home the horses
And the rodeo clowns
I'm still on that tightrope
I'm still trying everything to get you laughing at me
I'm still a believer but I don't know why
I've never been a natural
All I do is try, try, try
I'm still on that trapeze
I'm still trying everything
To keep you looking at me
