ariananext Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Potion really deserved to be the song of the summer, I don't know how it could flop

It's just some songs hit and others don't. As is the case with literally all popgirls tbh. I think we just have insane expectations for her after the slayage of the FN era.
DUA LIPA Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 potion is cute but i can see why it didn’t pick up because the song isn’t instant at all. also aren’t all of calvin’s new song kind of underperforming? seems like mot many people are here for that sound atm.

Yeah, she releases so many singles, on one side that's more chances at scoring a hit, on the other it's obvious not everything is gonna stick. She got three mega-smashes + multiple moderate/big hits in a 2 years span, which is quite insane.

I'd love to see the threads about her from 2015 (if there are any) I think she actually started out being stanned by the indie gays on here, then she flopped and released more commercial stuff and they dropped her. Then NR came out and ATRL ‘gp’ started noticing her

The OP was about Be The One and I was like "ohhh this is really good. I like her tone". Later when Hotter Than Hell dropped I was 100% sold.

I love her delivery too. Potion isn't that bad but it's not that good either. She shouldn't have just said yes to and jumped on anything and everything for the past few years - IMO. I feel like some of her Deluxe or side releases were so throwaway and could have watered down her built-up acclaim a bit. Luckily it seems like she's slowing down and (hopefully?) won't release anything more until Argylle or DL3? She needs a break - and so do people lol

But Potion is amazing to me. I also agree that she shouldn't release anything until DL3.

BlackoutZone Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Potion was never gonna be a hit, but I love how it showcases Dua's vocals in a new way, she doesn't have any song in her discography where she sounds quite like there. The production is delicious too, it's just that this combo of Dua and Thug doesn't really compliment it much. Sweetest Pie is a banger tho, but it flopping is a sign y'all need to drop the 00s DL3 whatever idea
