Maybe because Gaga wasn’t close to snatching multiple #1s at that point

Yea, if you ignore Bad Romance, Telephone and TEOG :dies:

Care to explain how the TD campaign was 'full of payola' when all of her singles hit #1 (sans TOTGA, which still peaked at a respectable #2) on the Digital Songs chart? Not like they were forcing the songs at radio with flop sales. The demand for her songs was clearly there.

And it isn't no surprise that TOTGA broke the spins record when she was dominating radio for nearly 15 months straight at that point.

It peaked at number 3 because of the "enourmou$" radio support. Without payola it wouldn't crack the top 10.

Fjdjsjksks the way they're still angry at TD's success over a decade later

ATRL showing it's so out of touch making fights for things from 10+ years ago... Makes sense that certain fanbase still thinks her fave is relevant to young people. :ace:

ANYWAYZ, "Bruno" decreasing on points, we love to see it, but the whole mainstream landscape is so... weak. :rip:

It cracked the top ten before your so/called claims of payola :skull: do y’all even do your research before shading artists y’all don’t like?

Heat Waves is #2. The are so close

Bruno's streams are falling faster than expected and Heat Waves points are stable so they could be #1 next week

I did some predictions for this week:

1    We Don't Talk About Bruno    248  (-26 points)
2    Heat Waves    235  (-3 points)
3    Easy On Me    221
4    abcdefu    210
5    Stay    205
6    Super Gremlin    204
7    Ghost    178
8    Shivers    177
9    Pushin P    167
10    That's What I Want    158

Does anyone know if the Barbz did mass buying this week for Bussin?

Compared to last week's numbers Bruno decreased 26 points and Heat Waves only decreased 3 points

You just said that TOTGA went top 2... Do yourself some research before trying to clock anyone in this thread.

Reading comprehension is not your forte.

TOTGA was a top two hit on the Digital Songs chart. Prior to it receiving any “payola” according to a certain fan base, it went top ten on the Hot 100. The original point I was trying to convey is that all of the Teenage Dream singles were hits on BOTH charts (because people actually bought her songs as they ascended on radio) because, you know, y’all all think HuGE RadIO AIrPlaY!!111 = payola.

But, all of this is moot if you don’t know how component charts work.

Maybe by "payola" he means the discounts since they were a big deal back then. I still remember the original version, the acoustic version and the B.o.B. remix all being discounted in the same week  :deadbanana4:  And to compare, some artists like Gaga never released an official remix of one of their singles or discounted any of their singles at that point, so that's why Katy doing it with the same single raised some eyebrows. And she has done the same with the single prior to TOTGA - LFN (remix + discount).

So the "payola" was only during the week it peaked, but overall it was a very big hit. Probably one of the biggest 6th singles ever.

People (especially a certain fan base) love to use the word “payola” in reference to the Teenage Dream era because all of her singles were legit hits and not radio driven. It’s the only “excuse” they can fall on because you can’t really drag an era that had 8 top 3 singles in a row (or, for those who want to be technical, 6 top 3 singles with and additional 2 top two hits with a rerelease).

Discounts are not considered payola because people were not forced to consume it. Yes Capitol did some trickery for LFN and TOTGA when they were close to hitting #1, but it didn’t force the GP to buy the song. They could have completely ignored the discount and went about their way.

Time for Lorde to drop a shock single for that #1

Probably about as likely as Katy giving us another "Roar".

I miss 2013. How has it almost been 10 years I'm having a crisis

TEOG debuted at #3 as a promo single, but when it was upgraded to an official single it never went higher than the #6 position. A remix or discount wouldn’t have made it shoot 5 spots to #1 considering Party Rock Anthem, Last Friday Night, and Super Bass were doing way better than it on all metrics

Telephone spent 1 week at #3. Not sure if a discount would’ve sent it to #1 or not…a possibility. But TOTGA spent multiple weeks at #3 so there’s a difference

anyways. All this is pointless 10 years later when BTW was sold for $0.99. This conversation is useless and you’re just finishing for arguments

Yes, cheap tactics =/= payola.

Let's face it - we would all want our label to do the same. If only Intercope pushed BR a bit when it was super close to #1....

Gurl I was just explaining what the other user probably meant, never said I agreed with him. But go off I guess :dies:

And this stale BTW discount argument when it was confirmed multiple times Amazon paid for full priced copies of BTW and then discounted them to promote their new service, so Gaga and her label clearly made a lot of profit with that business deal, so it cannot be compared to other discounts during those years since she didnt lose any profit by discounting it :coffee2:
