99sandthe2000s Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 4. Timbaland ft. OneRepublic - “Apologize” 16. Lady Antebellum - “Need You Now” 25. Kelly Clarkson - “Since U Been Gone” 28. Taylor Swift - “You Belong With Me” 29. Deborah Cox - “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” 30. Keith Sweat - “Twisted” 40. Lady Gaga - “Bad Romance” 50. Queen - “Bohemian Rhapsody” Queen is far too low on the list and definitely belongs in the top 10. Didn't realize how many hits got so close to the top spot.

Ace of Base - “All That She Wants” 40. Lady Gaga - “Bad Romance” Should’ve all gone #1, I still can't believe Shania spent 9 weeks at #2 and didn’t go #1 YST1 spent 1 week behind Next's Too Close & the other 8 behind Brandy & Monica's The Boy Is Mine. Keep in mind Country Airplay wasn't added to the Hot 100 the beginning of the 99 CY, the week after 1 fell off the H100 So YST1 relied entirely on mainstream airplay. But, also, Urban & Urban AC were added at the same time as Country, so 1 might not've overcame that anyway. TBIM had 2 mil reg singles before adding the 600k max is. Had they not released TBIM maxi-single Twain could've reached #1. YST1 also added a maxi-single, I believe 500k maxi with the original YST1 had 1.5 mil regular singles, trying to jump TBIM but eventually its 2 million physical singles sold out. But TC sold 2.2 mil & TBIM sold 2.6 mil. So all 3 were super strong songs, TC #1, TBIM #2 & YST1 #3 for 98 EOY H 100.

Blame streaming and the way chart points work nowadays. i think it's radio as well, and it's less important nowadays so it doesn't feel like the previous hits. i can't find other streaming hits on this list but then again peaking only #2 is rare nowadays.
Mr. Duff Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 I’m surprised to see Thinking Out Loud a bit low, and where is Complicated, Payphone, I Knew You Were Trouble? I thought they would make the top 50.

Sinister Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Y’all forgetting it’s about how long the song charts and what region it charted on the Hot 100. This is their biggest chart hits Recurrent plays can’t be added, unfortunately. It’s a weekly chart first and foremost.
zzmyth Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 All of the three Rihanna's #2 hits are pretty big hits TBH. Pon De Replay Run This Town Wild Thoughts All 3 could've been #1s. Im surprised PdR isnt there tbh
Memoirs387 Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Am I blind or is Missy’s Work It not on this list?

trainsskyscrapers Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 I'm very surprised that Destiny's Child "Survivor" wasn't here. Wasn't it stuck for 7 or 8 weeks behind a Janet Jackson record?

Saddy Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Where the hell is Mariah's Shake It Off and Can't Let Go???
tshwark Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 The power of radio, most of those songs (levitating) were overplayed to death, month after month, but low on streaming or sales chart, so with that huge airplay lead they charted higher.

It charted for 20 weeks total on the Hot 100 and only ranked #23 on the 2001 year-end chart
Jotham Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 I was expecting "Bad Romance" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" to be much higher.
