KasioKas Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 (edited) 26. Wrabel - let love in (The lyrics are scarily relateable and that caught my attention first, then it was the chorus leading in with his terrific head voice and that surprising high note. This song is really, really well written accompanied by the best singing on the entire album. This is what made me pay attention to this artist and revisit the album, male singers rarely ever sing like this in my experience, it's not the usual from the UK songs on the charts and that made it stand out beautifully.) 25. JoJo - Feel Alright (God-dammit there's that savage honesty again, plus I LOVE the intro of the song being high and low vocals to match the lyrcis. Once the chorus kicks in it i'm hooked and it's the perfect depressing lyrics over upbeat production that works for artists like Paramore. Jojo knows how to keep you engaged with the runs and inflections she inserts based on the lyric she sings and it's always done successfully imo, great song, lyrically and vocally truly, that outro is so beautifully sung! ) 24. Tinashe - Bouncin' (A bop! This is the most replayable song on the album and I'm still so obsessed with it, the beat and overall vibe is so great, and this is one of the few songs where I can tolerate her head voice, it sounds great here, not forced, and just works.) 23. Justine Skye - In My Bag (A booooooooooop Justine delivered with this whole album but this was a standout, singing the chorus entirely in chest and head voice serving as background is so great, and everyone needs a lil flex song on their album.) 22. Doja Cat - Naked (I'll talk more about Doja's ability to blend rap and pop so meticulously but for now i'll just say this is an exquisite example, she has such a great song for pop that that can easily be her sole lane, but flirting with GREAT rap bars in the pre-chorus and final verse, it's soooo good, soooo sexy, really hope this one is a single, with a soft, sultry mv! it deserves! ) 21. Adele - Can I Get It (This may not be the best song lyrically on 30, but the lyrics do not disappoint. It's my fave on the album though because it's a departure from Adele's usual, more melancholic sound and that's all i've wanted. She's all in here, the song is FUN, positive, and the chorus where she sounds like she's actually flirting to the person she wrote it for, the sultry voice before the whistling chorus comes in is a really nice touch. Glad she put a toe outside her comfort zone again.) 20. Todrick Hall - Don't Stop (I know ATRL hates on him constantly and he's said some questionable things, but when Todrick takes things seriously and writes a caring song he's capable of knocking it out of the park. This song is so sweet, the lyrics are honest, self-deprecating and direct to the person he sings it too. It climbs to a terrific high note before he takes it back down and does a good job building it up with harmonies. It's really well written and I never skip it because it's something I can picture myself singing to my own love someday.) 19. Chlöe - Have Mercy ( I wasn't expecting this.. I'm used to the girls' sound on their collab so this was out of left field. It's risky, its BOLD AF and it's a booooooooop The mv is so well done and her live performances are so full of energy that it just makes you love the song more, it isn't a mindless pop song that can be given to anyone because she somehow made it her own, somehow has carved a new image/lane for herself with this ONE song. I can't explain how hard that is for others. Well done. ) 18. Ariana Grande - test drive (This is easily one of best written songs she's done herself for the past two/three albums I must say, i'm finally starting to see better writing from her and all I can say is thank goodness; I love all the references/metaphors, it doesn't require deep thought but they all work, intertwined of course with her excellent layered harmonies and fun beat in the back keeping the energy up. Had it on repeat all year.) 17. Cynthia Erivo - The Good (This could've been a hit if placed on a movie soundtrack or was promoted heavily, it has a great slow start before the chorus kicks in, and has great lyrics that match the times we're living in today. I felt it immediately, it's upbeat but sad and reflective, even if we;re still in the thick of it. Really well written and sung. ) 16. Evvie Mckinney - Do It Again (Really, really emotional, really honest, really deep. It's sometimes hard to listen too, but Evvie went TF off on this one, particularly with the key change into the final chorus It's so clean and so sad and the choir aiding in the background just matched the vibe and energy so well and was a great addition.) 15. Zara Larsson - Look What You've Done (Been playing this all year, it's almost on par with Ariana's 'You'll Never Know' - just a bada** breakup pop bop, HIGH energy, savage and soooooo fun to sing along too. I really wish Zara brought THIS energy to the rest of the album, I would of liked it A LOT more, vocally she soars here, and the final pre-chorus is a cute addition to switch it up a little. Why wasn't this pushed as a single?) 14. Demi Lovato - Lonely People (There's just something about how unapologetic this is that I just love, in addition to the POWER vocals she puts into it to drive home the point. Demi's always been excellent at adding ad libs at the right place and this latter half of this song is just so explosive and great and I love it soo much ) 13. JoJo - Fresh New Sheets (Wheewww relateable af, loooove the harmonies in the background throughout the whole song instead of relying on any production, it's almost acapella until the guitar comes in for a pause as she ad libs a little.. I can't express how beautiful this sounds!.. and then.. the final words where she again BRUTALLY reveals her feelings of how she struggles with the thought of how much bigger of an artist she should have been, that it drives some of her depression, the tiny voice crack left in the final song, sooooo well done, I love this expose into her psyche so much because it's raw and beautifully done. ) 12. Doja Cat - Love To Dream (Listening to the album the first time, this was an IMMEDIATE top 3, it's incredibly well sung and not at all what I expected from Doja when going into the album. She has such a pretty voice and I love that she feels free to change the ratio of singing to rap on any given song, you never know what you're gonna get. It's so good!) 11. The Weeknd & Ariana Grande - Save Your Tears (Remix) (Don't listen to Weeknd but Ariana does a great job of giving him the spotlight until she steps in, peeping in with just a breathy vocal inbetween his lines. When she does step in, she sounds like a pro, opting for a slightly lower tone, and then by the chorus all i'm listening to is her vocal, her background ad libs, her high notes. The live performance is also sooo well done, and showcases more of her full range. Their voices really do mix well together and this is perhaps my favourite of their collabs? It's hard to choose.) KasioKas Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 18. Bridge Over Troubled Dreams - Delta Goodrem As a first taste of Delta, i'm extremely, extremely surprised at her range, she makes the highest of notes seem like nothing and as a lover of that type of sound/voice I was very into this! The album is a bit of a Katy-Perry-esque assortment of uplifting tracks but with some really fun others that reveal her own life a bit, both sad or fun and upbeat. As a full unit, it works really, really well from start to finish and there are many gems to cherry pick and enjoy on repeat as well. Again, her voice really carries it though, so talented, i'm really inclined to check out her discog now and learn a little bit more about her, this was a great find in 2021! Recommend: Dear Elton // The Power 17. 333 - Tinashe Sorry to say I didn't vibe with this one like her last album, my expectations were through the roof and that's my fault because before it I wasn't that into Tinashe tbh. This is good though, there are some nice upbeat RnB songs, some super, super earworms that I obsessed with too!, but overally, I only re-visited this album as a whole a few times. I think Tinahse needs to play a bit with this RnB sound she's got and not rely so much on prodution to cary a song, she changes up her voice a little here and there and those are the songs I like, but if it all sounds too similar I start to zone out and have difficulty diferentiating the other album tracks from each other. Recommend: X // The Chase // Bouncin’ 16. The Lucky Ones - Pentatonix Finallllyyyy another ORIGINAL album, idk why people soooo talented as ths group don't play a bit more with original content, they've already carved out a lane into super stardom with their covers, but never chose to evolve past it, it's just their thing now. Anyway, really great group of tracks here, some personal to each member I would assume, well written at times. The recommended tracks in particular below are some of the best, but the whole album deserves a shot. I found myself getting tired of some them but I still revisted the album and found myself enjoying them again, it's not too cringe or anything, it's safe and well sung. Recommend: Happy Now // Exit Signs // The Lucky Ones 15. Between Us (Deluxe Version) - Little Mix So this isn't realllllly fair because it's a collection of hits, buuuuuuut it brought a strong sense of nostalgia to me that I enjoyed, I didn't realise how much of their music I enjoy so much! SO many fun UK hits and deep album tracks that made it (and some that didn't but should've!), it broke my heart to hear of Jesy's departure and i'm not even a stan - that is of course before I was told she was never black.. and then the utterly disgusting live video with Nicki towards Leigh.. - anywayyyyyyy of the original tracks from the threesome, some highlight their strengths lyrically and vocally while others I feel should have been left on the chopping block, but overall it's a nice farewell, and it's a group I will definitely miss. Recommend: No // Between Us 14. Ch. 1 Vs. 1 - Cynthia Erivo I was soooo excited to hear from this Queen of acting and song followng her terrific soundtrack song which was my #5 best song of 2019! The album as a whole was extremely well written, which was no surprise from the well spoken songstress, but I unfortunately found myself tuning out at times. There was a certain leverl of high vocal I expected that I did not receive, she opted for emotion and reflection, it's still great, and my recs below are imo best of the best!, but alas I didn't revisit this as much as I thought I would, it's a case of the highs being really high but the lows being only.. okay. Recommend: What In The World // The Good // Alive 13. In The Meantime - Alessia Cara I'm soooo surprised that I liked an Allessia Cara album, I only knew her for one hit and never really gave her time of day, but decided to give this album a shot and was so pleasantly suprised! It's a really cute listen, there aren't really any duds, it's just a chill vibe, cool lyrics, nice vocals. I went it not expecting much so I just enjoyed the ride and honestly revisted it a couple other times from start to finish as background music while I worked. 'Shapeshifter ' & 'Lie To Me' however are standouts, sooo well written and really fun, they're filled with personality and sass, easily on repeat since the album release, so good! Recommend: Box In The Ocean // Shapeshifter // Lie To Me 12. Haus Party, Pt. 3 - Todrick Hall Again, I know he gets a very bad rep on this site, but this has some really good gems! He doesn't go for the unnecessarily gay and flamboyant route, opting for more downto earth, sometimes sweet lyrics and vocal choices. 'Pink Dreams' is a cute upbeat love song, 'Blue' is soooooo well sung and soooo fuc**ng sweeeet I genuinely want to play it for my future love, it's perhaps his top 2 best songs ever and much better than some of the songs your male faves released this year, 'Love Me Black' is an awesome, shameless, black-culture referential, flex track that I as a black man enjoyed listening too, even if he inserts some of his opinions on his own life into it, and 'Don't Stop' as you can see from the latest song rate, it also really well sung, serious and lyricully beautiful. He really suprised me with this one, a couple of songs were definitely on my daily rotation Recommend: Blue // Don't Stop // Love Me Black 11. The Terrell One Million Show - Terrell Grice To celebrate 1 million Youtube subscribers, Terrell & team decided to once again band together his favourite guest songs from his show, an assortment of truly MAGNIFICENT, talented singers that are offensively underrated, to sing a collection of his favourite old RnB hits. So yes, this is a collection of covers, but covers SO GOOD they damn near rival the originals at times. Sometimes there are too many runs, sometimes the singers try to fle a little too much and fail to show restraint, but with talent that great i'll allow it. I'm in awe that this was all done live and the recordings just strung together, really well done. (Full live show is on youtube and features artists like Amber Riley, PJ Morton & Sheléa, Chanté Moore, Stevie Mackey, Kevin Ross, Samoht etc.) Recommend: Guess Who I Saw Today (Live) // Masterpiece (Mona Lisa) // My Testimony / Let Go

KasioKas Posted January 7, 2022 Author Posted January 7, 2022 (edited) 10. When Christmas Comes Around... - Kelly Clarkson Great setof original tracks, which made me really enjoy putting it on repeat, even if it's mostly about the breakup. Kelly's voice is such a gem! Recommend: Merry Christmas (To The One I Used To Know) // Glow // Santa, Can't You Hear Me 9. TIE: Positions (Deluxe) & Future Nostalgia (The Moonlight Edition) I know.. I know, but they're extensions to two of the BEST pop records of 2020 and the additions were on repeat for most of the first half of 2021, in addition to making me revisit the whole album and like some original songs, so there.. Recommend: test drive // main thing // We're Good // Not My Problem (feat. JID) 8. An Evening With Silk Sonic - Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak & Silk Sonic Recommend: Put On A Smile // After Last Night (with Thundercat & Bootsy Collins) // Leave The Door Open 7. 30 - Adele Lyrical masterpiece, miles better than 25 imho, very well sung and with so much emotion it's hard to listen to 1/2 songs too often together. The track list really does tell a story, as Ajay put it, it's a book that paints a sad but brutal story. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Recommend: To Be Loved // Can I Get It // Cry Your Heart Out 6. Life Support - Madison Beer Great, great debut. Good lyrics, emotion, nice voice. I can tell she'll only get better with age, and the sadder songs were oddly the ones I enjoyed most. There were times it sounded like she was holding back tears as she sang, it's all just very cohesive bar 1/2 songs. Overally well done for a first full step into a discog, after such a long wait from her EP. Recommend: Sour Times // Emotional Bruises // Everything Happens For A Reason 5. Space and Time - Justine Skye Bops, bops, bops! She's so underrated! This was sooo much fun to listen to and is one of my most replayed album of the year and in this top 10! Recommend: Twisted Fantasy // In My Bag // Intruded 4. these words are all for you - Wrabel Love this lyrically above all else, his voice is just icing! Recommend: good // don't pick up the phone // let love in TOP 3! Spoiler Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over - Demi Lovato This was sort of a new sound, and she executed it flawlessly. There was alot of brutal truth, some things really shocking, but over fun production that you could weirdly sing along too. A shame her career swiftly took a nose dive because this could've catapaulted her career further given the subject material and her recent near-death experience. This at least proves she's willing to evolve and not stick to the same sound too strictly. Recommend: The Art Of Starting Over // Easy // Lonely People Spoiler Planet Her (Deluxe) - Doja Cat Masterful at blending song and rap on her own, lyrics are sometimes comical, sometimes just great bars. Such a fu**ing talent. The charisma oozs out of my headphones, and every performance or mv just adds to the aesthetic and makes me like the song/project more. Recommend: Woman // I Don't Do Drugs (feat. Ariana Grande) // Options (feat. JID) AOTY Spoiler trying not to think about it - JoJo Best album of 2021. Super personal for me but everything is just perfect, lyrics above all. Every song has a lyric that I've experienced and it just made it extremely relateable. Love, Love, Love this album and this girl for writing it and singing it so masterfully. Every run, every high note, every low note, every harmony - so well done Recommend: Spiral SZN // Anxiety (Burlinda’s Theme) // Fresh New Sheets Edited January 7, 2022 by KasioKas

Queens Cast (Brandy) - Hear Me 6. Mariah Carey - Oh Santa! (feat. Ariana Grande & Jennifer Hudson) 5. Tori Kelly & JoJo - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman (It may be a cover but I've been waiting for these two to collab for YEARS and this was a brilliant taste, both ladies shone and did the song justice.) 4. Jennifer Hudson - Here I Am (Singing My Way Home) (One word: Powerful.) TOP 3! Spoiler Doja Cat - Woman (Addicting! Can't listen to this without moving, and has been on repeat for weeks and still sounds good!) Spoiler JoJo - Anxiety (Burlinda’s Theme) (Giving your anxiety a name and addressing it directly, with uncensored raw honesty and shame. One of the best written songs i've hard on the topic, excelletly done, and especially on repeat when i'm having my own moment.. The harmonies on the latter half are plentiful and haunting. between the beat, LYRICS, vocal and emotion it's just perfect.) "I wish that I could shut you off, keep you muted I wish I knew the difference between your voice and mine And mine" "You only show up when it's inconvenient Always talkin' loud, fill my head with lies Keepin' me home, keepin' me from leavin' You love just to take my time" "You drain me (Drain me), drain me All you do is try to change me (Change me) lately And if I could choose (Ooh) It'd be me without you (Ooh)" I've never seen/heard anyone capture it this well within a song. Spoiler Spoiler A TIE! I COULDN'T DECIDE! Spoiler All Time Low - Monsters (feat. Demi Lovato and blackbear) (Filled my 'lil pop-rock heart with joy! I've seen people say this is speaking to your own inner demons rather than an ex, and it certainly fits. Demi massacred this song, her vocals on this are insane! I literally cannot stop replaying this, send help!) JoJo - Spiral SZN (... This describes my depression so well I almost got a little emotional first hearing it.. This is EXACTLY what it feels like, it comes in waves, and you know when you feel it coming, sometimes with a direct cause and sometimes not, and it's like "aw fu** here it comes" and she NAILS that idea with this song. It's so fu**ing relateable and accurate + the fun beat and awesome vocals just makes it so easy to sing along too. It's another one i'll play from now on when i'm having a moment - honestly this is one of the best songs i've even heard in my life because i've been battling this that long and it's nice to know other people experience it this way, it was just really personal to me and it's Jojo's best, exquisite. ) The first verse hit me HARD "Lover girl, lovin' everything but herself Pedestal for everyone, but she's on a shelf Emotion comatose You know how that shit goes, yeah Lover girl, loves to overthink it to death Underwhelmed by everything that she's ever did Full cups are half empty That's how I see it" YUP YUP YUP!
