BlackoutZone Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 Pop Smoke f/ Dua Lipa - Demeanor Is it a good song? Not at all honestly. It's very disjointed and you can tell they are running out of his proper demos to use so they started piecing random ideas together trying to force something passable. However I'm still a Dua love at heart and her verse was amazing, her delivery was hot as fuck and made me spin the song TONS of times this year so I had to drop it here somehwere. Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix) That's a much better offering from Dua this year. PNAU did an amazing job blending these Elton classics together with a warm groovy production. So happy to see it smashing around the world, though not gonna lie it was very unexpected. This cool breakdown by David Bennett on YouTube made me appreciate it even more. But in its core it's still more of a cute mashup than a new song so. Kylie Minogue & Dua Lipa - Real Groove (Studio 2054 Remix) You thought we are done with Dua in this reveal huh? A collab between these ladies was (and kind of still remains) a dream, especially on one of the best songs on Disco which got notably compared to Future Nostalgia right after the release. This remix however, while I'm still glad it exists, doesn't really count as a proper collab with Dua's vocals being barely there, blended in and lost behind Kylie's lead and big instrumentation. I still love the remix though! With or without Dua it's funky af. Hyd - Skin 2 Skin Glad to see QT is back with a new material, especially penned with help of Caroline Polachek. The whole new HYD EP is pretty decent, but I'm waiting for more fireworks. So far this track was the biggest stand out for me, hope we hear more in the future. Madison Beer - Default She's been so hyped this year and I'm gonna admit the album was a pretty interesting debut from a new pop girl. Hope she continues the path of songs like Default / Selfish / Effortlessly rather than BOYSHIT or Good In Goodbye. Ultimately tho my favorite track on the album is Default and it feels rather like an interlude so I didn't feel like putting it ont he main list. Zara Larsson - Poster Girl I was anticipating this whole record a lot, the original pre-release singles were all so fucking sick (Don't Worry Bout Me, All The Time, Love Me Land especially), I kept rewinding her own words of making ABBA on acid pop bangers. But is Poster Girl really all that? I found myself obsessed with the title track and 2/3 other cuts upon the release, but they all aged rather quickly and I'm still mostly coming back to pre-album singles. Hopefully Zara will surprise me in the future again, cause she does have an X factor and it shines when I see her on stage.

Alex Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Almost every Dua collab released this year taking up half the list Haven't heard HYD yet. DEFAULT is an excellent song, RAYE did that. wish it was a full song! Poster Girl making it. Her best song that she released in a while.
Enigmanotta Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Madison didn't make it past the honorable mentions, I know that's right! Skin 2 Skin finally getting released was a dream come true.
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 I forgot about Pop Smoke collab Dua definitely in her collab era again in 2021 but Real Groove remix is serving go girl give us nothing nnn FFF is one of the standout track from Poster Girl imo. The album itself is already dated for me but it's still cute little bop here and there I still can't believe QT is back Let me add to my playlist real quick
dreamofyou Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 dua sweeping as expected also the default stanning, taste - i agree completely with what you said, effortlessly, default, selfish, etc. fit her way better than BOYSHIT and the other more upbeat tracks (minus sour times)
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 11, 2021 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2021 It's ineligible, I spammed my list with FN enough last year But damn I adore it still It was only released as a single this year though, it should be eligible Cold Heart yasss Real Groove is better solo
theblackestday Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 You said let's get rid of the Duas before the list
Sanguine Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Skin 2 Skin SLAPS. Def the best song on the EP, love the whispers colliding with the more noisy parts. I liked the whole thing EP actually, but yeah hoping for more in the future Poster Girl is the best song on the album, though I don't really love it like that. A lot of songs on So Good were better too tbh I like Cold Heart a lot as well, at least someone managed to give Elton John a good song this year!
TheWayWeWere Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 I see Caroline, I run nawt 3 Dua's songs in HM Demeanor is the worst of them, but I liked her verse very much, so I listened it A LOT Real Groove is such a missed oportunity Poster Girl is one of the better bops from ha album
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Out of the three Dua Lipa songs, I like Real Groove the most.
Remmy Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Dua not doing so hot Poster Girl is a nice bop, although it wasn't one of my immediate favorites. I feel like that album was forgotten kinda quickly, but maybe other threads in this section will prove me wrong. Quote We really do omg, I loved your last year countdown so much and I'm ready for this one!
Modus Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Pretty solid songs as honorable mentions Poster Girl still one of the strongest tracks from Zara's discography. Madison Beer dreamy sound is gorgeous, tho I find some tracks too similar in her debut album
Tinashegrande6 Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 You know I unironically like the whole of Demeanour and it will probably be making my list too But yes Dua's verse was hypnotic Poster Girl is a really solid pop song
BlackoutZone Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 So I'll be posting first batch shortly, 5 songs from main list, 5 songs from K-pop list. The eligibility period was more or less Dec 1st 2020 - Nov 30th 2021. Also I'm reusing layout from last year cause it was cute and I'm lazy x and thanks for all the comments loves Spoiler 21 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: Holy shit these gifs I- OT: Wow those ants are marching to her Carussy? Sour Times is definitely better than the rest of those, it reminds me of Tame Impala, Im pretty sure she directly cited the influence 19 hours ago, Legend E said: It was only released as a single this year though, it should be eligible Cold Heart yasss Real Groove is better solo Ok but FN tracks really spammed my list last year enough, Love Again remains the classic tho wbk 16 hours ago, Cloröx said: nnnnn not three Dua's songs 14 hours ago, theblackestday said: You said let's get rid of the Duas before the list And I did the right thing, she had her moment in 2021 14 hours ago, Sanguine said: Skin 2 Skin SLAPS. BlackoutZone Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 I was really anticipating Harlecore as Danny proved himself to be one of the my favorite electronic producers out there. It finally came this year, I quite liked it, but I think On A Mountain remains its best song. Interlocked was fire too, loved vocals by Lauren of CHRVHCES as a nice touch. Pretty much hated the album, but really loved this song, by far the best track and probably the only one I'll be coming back to over time. A friend recommender Remi to me and I checked out her album with no expectations. It wasn't anything extraordinary, but this particular song got me so HOOKED. Indie pop bop. Finally after years of teasing we got a studio album and California Palms is definitely Maty at her best with amazing production by OZGO. Big summery pop banger. I'm definitely not a part of this year's Olivia craze and I found SOUR to be very mediocre, especially for someone who brands herself so much as Taylor protegee... but I still can't deny Deja Vu is a great track and her best by far. Maybe Cruel Summer "sample" carried it to this point, maybe not, I just love it.
BlackoutZone Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 K-Pop List They released one of the best minis and especially titles of 2020, but sadly their releases this year were pretty shit and my favorite song by far is this random UNICEF promo track for charity? Bg noise done right idc, this is just massive and thankfully the chorus is pretty melodic so I found myself hooked. Don't know if it's the subtle Levitating sample making me stan, but it's one of their best b-sides, so colorful and fun. For some reason I trashed this when it came out and then I switched to the point it became one of my favorite k-bangers of the year? The video is cool af too. It ain't Stay Tonight and it's a bit noisy, but her sassiness makes it slap. WJSN mega ate this year, even on their sub-units. The bass in the hook is so good, the whole track is exactly what I love about the retro trends that were still heavily ongoing this year.
Enigmanotta Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) If Olivia and Lorde make other appearances any higher, we're gonna have a problem, but I have to agree those songs are cute. I'm surprised to find Bicycle here, I almost forgot (for the better) that Querencia was released this year. I actually enjoy FILA despite not very feeling any of TWICE's latest releases, but it could've been better. It deserves its spot, though. Edited December 11, 2021 by Enigmanotta
Modus Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) Lorde panned everywhere SP would be a cute EP with 5 tracks, I feel like everyone would agree with this statement. Danny is so talented, dying to hear what he's creating with Dua! I see Maty Noyes name here on ATRL but I had never checked her properly. The one you mentioned is cute I'm predicting Billie is coming in the next 10-15 positions. Edited December 11, 2021 by Modus
