There will also be nothing posted tomorrow since I have my first dentist appointment ever - I've never brushed or flossed my teeth before, I use deodorant for my mouth and you should too! I completely snubbed The Marias this year. Let's say I found their 2021 single tracks quite underwhelming.

Never heard of them before this year so I don't have much to compare :gaycat3: I think the singles and promo tracks were some of the best from the album

Last Year Was Weird Vol 3 and The Walls Are Way Too Thin being snubbed (emphasis on the latter) :shakeno:

Sweet Dream was your favourite song from In The Meantime? I think it was my least favourite :toofunny2:

Vol 3 was close, just not close enough :!ohno: Holly's EP was a little too boring, I still see potential in ha.

It's the only reason my interest in the album went up :oh:

Hot N Heavy wasn’t a single?? This is news to me. :eek:

Baby Queen on your list of singles?? Hope to see more of her coming; IDK anyone else that listens to her! LMAO

I don't think so, but then again my definition of a single might be different from others :lakitu:

She has more coming, yup :gaycat4: The Baby Kingdom will soon start to grow...

Never listened to AJR because too many people kept saying it was bad lol, I liked Ordinaryish People though

Lonely People is one of the few songs I can remember from Demi’s lol

Violent Delights didn’t make it? :shakeno:

It was, and a major step down after they just stepped UP :) Ordinaryish People + Way Less Sad are the only 2 that need to be heard.

As you should :jamming:

Unfortunately not

EPs: good picks for the cute section. Not Holly and Meghan in the bottom though!

Albums: the bottom five is some scurry shit…

Holly's EP needed some stronger tracks :celestial5: and Meghan has better Xmas covers on the standard edition.

Right :oh:

The Moonlight Edition flopping :fan: it's kinda sad how they choosed only these tracks, especially since she had like 6-7 better in her vault :jonny2:

both Lana albums didn't making your list :cries:

Demi's album was cute, but too long tbh, but highlights are pretty great

nice to see Florrie on your list :eli:

I rarely go through unreleased tracks but I saved a few from the FN era and you're right! Actually the main reason it's so low is because Not My Problem is one of the worst songs I've heard this year :)

She just doesn't 100% do it for me anymore :emofish: I still enjoy some tracks here and there.

Exactly!

Her droplets all throughout the year were pretty great :jamming:

So much excellent choices that I'm a bit mad they are out at this stage already :redface: I don't even know which ones to focus on, cause a lot of these artists will make appearance on my list :dies:

But I'm absolutely shocked to see Cape God Deluxe in the underwhelming section, it highly elevated the album for me and every song is a stand out

Oop, then maybe we won't be on the same page this time around :oh:

I was shocked it didn't hit me harder since CG was my 2020 AOTY! Sadly none of the songs left much of an impression on me.

I'm glad someone decided to shout out Fancy Like (Kesha remix)...it couldn't be me. Love Kesha to pieces, but I can't take that song. :( Kesha deserved the praise regardless!!!

Kiii yeah I can't care for the solo version, Kesha tried her best and I love her for that! She's the only reason I pressed play.

def looking forward to your list :gaycat3: serving taste with some of your discoveries already!

most notably yumi zouma's album and kailee's EP :jonny: the former is so damn good and it's only grown on me since last year. Dying to Live making the top 5 for songs, def a highlight!

as for things that missed your list: CINEMA by The Marías was robbed!! and ELIO's remix album seems adequately placed, since it didn't offer anything new :mandown:

:gaycat2::gaycat2::gaycat2:

CINEMA is nice but I feel like it starts falling off a bit near the end of the tracklist. Yup, pretty true w/ ELIO.

Angel's EP was kind of a snooze... when I heard she was covering '80s songs I got excited but then I realized oh, she's doing it in her current style :rip: Dua is mainly there because Not My Problem is TRASH!

BEST EPs || #20-11

[[ Eligibility period: 11/01/2020 - 12/04/2021 ]]

NOTE: This category is ranked by the average score each release got after I rated every track above 2:10-ish.

20. Ashnikko 'DEMIDEVIL' (Mixtape)
Ranking: Slumber Party > Deal with It > Daisy > L8r Boi >> Cry > Good While It Lasted = Little Boy
Thoughts: The 3 main singles and an updated, R-rated version of Avril's "Sk8er Boi" carry

this project quite a bit. Still pretty enjoyable as long as you can get down with her style.

19. Shura 'forevher' (Deluxe tracks)
Ranking: t-shirt > obsession > elevator girl
Thoughts: Truly one of the most random releases of the year since the original came out in 2019, but these new additions are appreciated!

18. Sam Sparro 'Boombox Eternal: Halcyon Deluxe Edition' (Bonus tracks)
Ranking:
Melody of Us > Vibe Forever (Extended) > Delicious
Thoughts: Got into the main album a year late but luckily I was on time with the deluxe version. Like 'forevher' - the new stuff is also solid.

17. Kage 'The Grave'
Ranking: The Grave >= The Raid > Sanpaku > Feel Me > Trust Me
Thoughts: A streamer I was watching had one of his songs playling and I needed to do some research

ASAP. I'm not always a huge fan of instrumental-only tracks but the beats are HOT.

16. Foxes 'Friends In the Corner'
Ranking:
Love Not Loving You > Friends In the Corner = Kathleen > Dance > Hollywood >> Courage > Woman
Thoughts: We all know Miss Louisa can do better (and she currently is), but even at her weakest - she's still good!

It's just that "Courage" and "Woman" are pretty much at the bottom of her discography.

15. Valley 'Last Birthday'
Ranking:
Tempo > Oh shit...are we in love? > Like 1999 > Cure >= SOCIETY > Can We Make It? > ain't my girl
Thoughts: Ever since I've discovered them early this year, I've found out that Valley are really good

at serving catchy pop bops, and that's exactly what they do on here. Simple as that!

14. Baby Queen 'The Yearbook' (Mixtape)
Ranking: Dover Beach > Raw Thoughts > You Shaped Hole > American Dream > These Drugs > Narcissist >> Fake Believe >>> I'm a Mess
Thoughts: This is DELICIOUS... until the last 2 tracks mess things up a little bit. My top 3 are lowkey pop gold though.

I also love that Olivia Rodrigo added her to the SOUR tour, we stan an opening act that's better than the headliner! :fan:

13. Anna Vaus 'Wild Honey'
Ranking:
Wild Honey > Girl In a Bar > Elephant > Born On a Windy Day > 10,000 Horses
Thoughts: Stumbled upon Anna when I saw she did a '1989' cover version of Taylor's "champagne problems", which then led me to

her original music. You should enjoy this if you're a fan of country-pop, although it's missing her best 2021 single for some reason.

12. joan 'bye'
Ranking: don't say you love me > waiting on nothing > so done > not over you
Thoughts: joan's 'cloudy' won this category last year but don't count them out yet, this was part of a double release!

There's not a lot to say about this one, it fits with their typical sound + it's super short and sweet.

11. Greyson Chance 'Trophies'
Ranking: O Violet > Hellboy > Holy Feeling > High Waisted > Nobody > Hands = Clothes
Thoughts: Totally forgot he existed for so long until his 1st album in 8 years, 'portraits', caught my attention last year.

I prefer this EP over it by a little since it has less filler. A good mix of cute jams & more chill, heartfelt songs.

BEST FILMS || #13-07

Unfortunately, this is another lackluster Best Films list but at least and my #1 is a movie

I actually LOVE instead of just really like. Plus I think my top 5 is a bit stronger as well.

[[ Eligibility period: 10/01/2020 - 12/03/2021 ]]

13. Zola [B.]
Released: 06/30/21 || IMDB: 6.5 / RT: 88% / LB: 3.6
Starring: Taylour Paige, Riley Keough, Nicholas Braun
Notes: - It's cool to see a film based on this legendary Twitter thread, plus it's only around 82 minutes so that's nice! I've actually never read the whole thread but I do remember going through at least half ot it back in the day. || - For a movie based on a wild story like this, I was expecting something much... wilder, which is the main reason why my grade isn't higher. || - The overall vibes are so dirty and grimey you'll want to take a shower afterwards.

12. tick, tick...BOOM! [B.]
Released: 11/12/21 || IMDB: 7.7 / RT: 87% / LB: 3.8
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesus

Notes: - Didn't know much about this but heard great things so I was intrigued. Honestly forgot it was a musical until a few minutes before I finally pressed play. || - Very nicely edited and sequenced, Andrew kills it & him narrating on a stage was an amazing idea. || - A decent chunk of the music didn't really appeal to me for the most part, a few great songs but plenty were too quirky for my taste. || - More overwhelming than you might expect, plus there's a lot of building up - and due to that, the movie does get better as it goes on and packs on some extra emotion.

11. Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry [B+]
Released: 02/26/21 || IMDB: 7.8 / RT: 96% / LB: 4.0
Starring: Billie Eilish, Finneas O'Connell, Maggie Baird

Notes: Billie is such an interesting person and her career has exploded so much so it's nice to see a lot of behind-the-scenes footage, especially plenty that is truly exclusive. || - I feel like the pacing definitely slows down quite a bit after the first hour (mainly because we're taken on and off stage repeatedly). and it almost seems like there's a slight lack of material to show.

10. Luca [B+]
Released: 06/18/21 || IMDB: 7.5 / RT: 91% / LB: 3.9
Starring: Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman (voices)

Notes: - The first 9 minutes were a little too basic and familiar, which had me worried for a bit... || - It's definitely simple and small-scale (even down to the 84 min runtime) but also very sweet and wholesome. The friendship that takes place is the heart of the movie. || - I don't care what Disney says (or the writers), there's gay codings ALL over this movie... and I love to see it! Maybe next time they'll grow some balls and make certified LGBTQ+ main characters? || - Kinda reminds me of Onward (2020) - it's not the best or funniest, but it's entertaining and heartfelt enough to leave you satisfied. :smile:

09. Shiva Baby [B+]
Released: 04/02/21 || IMDB: 7.2 / RT: 97% / LB: 3.9
Starring: Rachel Sennott, Danny Deferrari, Dianna Agron

Notes: - It's such a simple movie, especially at 77 minutes which is truly unheard of these days, but it does a great job at building tension (lowkey like Uncut Gems). The editing as well as how all the characters interact and operate really help with this. || - As someone who hates parties and get togethers, some of these situations are my WORST NIGHTMARES. Even if you don't relate to this, the movie makes it super easy for you to feel how the main character is feeling.

08. Black Widow [B+]
Released: 07/09/21 || IMDB: 6.7 / RT: 79% / LB: 3.4
Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour

Notes: - Generally enjoyable, there's a few slow moments but not too many and I was pretty interested throughout the whole 2 hours. Debuts right in the middle of my MCU ranking. || - Great main cast, especially Florence Pugh who is instantly likeable as the younger sister. || - The beginning really packs an emotional punch and reminds you that these are just little girls being forced through this life. || - I know you're pretty much required to suspend a good amount of reality while watching these but... how the hell did several people survive that 3rd act!?!?

07. Raya and the Last Dragon [B+]
Released: 03/05/21 || IMDB: 7.4 / RT: 94% / LB: 3.5
Starring: Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan (voices)

Notes: - Generally fast paced, which is always appreciated. Lovely animation as well. || - Even though the story is simple, I love the way it progresses, it has such a nice flow. || - Demoted to a B+ after a 2nd viewing because some jokes feel a bit forced & the plot could've been stronger. There's also PLENTY of information to learn at 4 different moments... and it's predictable as hell!

Mercurial World fucking excellence :duca: Good addition

These EPs/mixtapes are cute, I loved Deal With It from Ashnikko, but it's probably mainly cause Dagny penned it :alexz3:

shura's bonus tracks were a bit whatever, excited for what she brings next

Agreed re: Raya, too predictable but I enjoyed it nonetheless

asfusfij not these multiple callouts :lmao:

Dua flopped extra hard because Not My Problem was (for some reason) tacked onto this :)

I love Demi, their album was just too bloated and several tracks were kinda ugly!

baby i'm in a depressed mood 24/7, 365!!! the JoJo songs just didn't hit!!

Nah you and I are legit gonna fight because this is UNACCEPTABLE. Normally I would expect this from you but this time you just weren't paying attention, Trying Not To Think About It is excellent I can't believe this immense lack of taste :psyduck::psyduck::psyduck:

sorry to hear about your dog :cries::heart2:

I don't use Demidevil at all dddd and I was so perched for it too. sad she failed to deliver after Daisy.

Friends in the Corner was a cute EP but had foxes' worst songs in her discography on it spill. Title track is a career highlight tho!

I never got the chance to watch Zola :rip:

just got into Magdalena Bay's album, it's amazing!

:'( sorry to hear about your dog, my maltese is getting pretty old, I know I will be in a deep depression when she leaves me :heart2: hope youre doing okay.

Your movie list is good, I want to see Zola and Tick Tick Boom, I loved Luca and Raya. Black Widow was alright, not my favorite MCU movie but Florence Pugh :jonny:

Ol*via snatched Baby Queen for her tour? Noooo. Stay away from her! Your ranking of The Yearbook is good; I put Raw Thoughts and American Dream a bit lower, and I’m A Mess way higher. But Dover Beach and YSH are such pop perfection. :jonny5:

Have seen all of your studio films except for TTB. I’d probably swap Luca and BW’s positions… maybe even put Luca ahead of Raya. The fact that Awkwafina’s character is basically… Awkwafina is a bit of a mess, and it has a few anachronistic jokes that really fall flat. But I love both. Shiva Baby was a very interesting film as well; she did an excellent job capturing the awkwardness, anxiety, and claustrophobia of the situation. Zola didn’t do much for me, but I agree about the grimy feel to it.

I had to put my dog down this year because she was growing more sick. It was really hard and I empathize with you.

But more on your Best Of, I was surprised that I ended up liking Ashnikko as much as I do. Probably don't listen to her as much as I should, but I think I'm pretty into her music. She's really fun!
