I feel so bad for Dua and her fans. This is so unfair, she deserved to go #1 after releasing an amazing album and having a great era.

And can someone please explain to me how website sales are fraudulent? If fans are willing to LEGALLY buy extra copies on an artist’s website, then what’s the problem? Dua was robbed omg

Personally, I don't think they're fraudulent in the sense that they are breaking the existing rules. I'd say it's more of a sense that they tend to defeat what Billboard alleges is the purpose of the Hot 100.

Billboard right now is at a crossroads whether the Hot 100 is indeed supposed to represent popularity or just a consumption chart. I think they've always been aware of it, but never realized that there would come a time when digital downloads would be so low that bulk buying could become a determining factor.

In one hand, you are correct, that if fans are willing to legally buy extra copies there isn't a problem if the charts were only concerned with tracking the consumption that happened within that week. However, if it's a popularity chart, it would be like counting doubles (or even more) since one person buying several copies doesn't make the song itself more popular (as in more known to more people)

With this song? Not likely. Levitating will be peaking soon.

With another song? Even less likely. She had to get carried to the top 2 by DaBaby, and it's hard to see her getting a bigger hit than this one.

"Had to get carried by DaBaby" lol

So happy to see real quality music at #1.:clap3:

Because fans buying 70 copies each DOES NOT represent popularity nor music consumption. All it represent is how wealthy and passionate your fanbase is. Her fans are not going to be listening to all 70 copies they each bought.

Billboard is a popularity chart, not a revenue chart.

OT: Dua needs to stop with the payola and the chart manipulation. This should teach her a lesson because this is not it.

What does Dua have to do with this? She didnt tell her fans to bulk buy

Again, not everyone lives in the little pop bubble yall create in your heads as the only good music out there. I hear leave the door open everytime I step out lol, I swear the downplaying and discrediting of songs on this site because it isn’t pop is so aggravating. Expand your palette.

This entire post should be featured! I’ve witnessed Billboard do some shady sh*t but this isn’t worth fans getting mad. :rip:

Billboard knows best what the numbers are :rip: they are the authoritative source on this stuff

ATRL can seethe all they want

This.

And rest assured Billboard would be sued if they just randomly decided to take out 4K in sales.  These ARE major corporations here.  They would be in so much legal hot water for tampering with sales just to “hold Dua Lipa back”.  Like...are y’all listening to yourselves? :rip:

Audits happen weekly with these charts, it’s nothing new.

So? The fans may have done it by themselves, but that doesn't mean the sales were legitimate. At the end of the day, a #1 peak is more for marketing than for anything else, especially when the song was already a top 10 hit by itself.

But they do though...which is what I’m trying to tell you.

Based on my own first hand knowledge with the artists I have worked with, this audit is VERY common.  It happens every week, but is a more drawn out process when labels contest the audit (which is likely what Warner did, considering how close it was).

Sales are almost always thrown out if: 1) there is bulk buying that didn’t follow the rules, or 2) miscount of some sort on Nielsen’s part (rarely ever happens), or 3) they can’t verify sales of their party vendor (D2C/artist store).  There’s no conspiracy.  This literally happens every week, it’s just that labels/artists don’t contest it every week.  Lol.

FYI...I also used to intern at Billboard too and had to help with chart auditing (for smaller charts, obviously lol).  But it’s a whole ass production every week to pull it off.

Yea this. It sucks and bb is trash but they will not back down on those sales being fraudulent if Thats what they found. And tbh I cant see what meltdowns and at rl banners will do, only her and stans are invested, nobody outside of this cares so therefore nothing will change

Dua might not be my cup of tea but I wouldn’t count her out so early. I’m sure with time she will get a #1 on BBH100.

The song hadn't been released as a single before he was added. It was launched as a single WITH HIM back in October with a video and performances.

She had a solo #2 SMASH last year, can we not start re-writing history now?

And DaBaby couldn't send Camila's song to the Top 10 last year

This! Like please get out of your Stan head. Ik you were rooting for her but calling billboard fraudulent lmao? They don’t have to explain why the charts are adjusted the way they are. Sometimes you just take your L and keep it pushing. Dua had an amazing era and not earning a #1 doesn’t take that away from it.

While I 100% agree with this, why will they allow it with BTS next week? I can already see the headline "BTS scores 4th #1" in 2 weeks. They might filter a bit, but you can't tell me that 100k-200k sales will be purely from US stans buying ONE copy.

If they want to investigate it properly, they need to do it with every act and stop cherry picking.

This is an article about Dua's song, right? And her fans still bulked bought the song regardless of what Dua told her fans, which in my opinion is fraudulence.

Exactly. This was the fans idea. In fact they were begging her to post about the song the whole week.
