I get it's not fair that bieber is a representation of white male privilege in an industry where females and/or minorities can be more talented but sometimes make bad decisions and not be able to survive and thrive the way Bieber... wait a tick...I just answered my own question. Hate the game not the player that's my point

They are well established artists that know the game by now, they knew adding Justin would be bring a bigger fan base then they had combined, and more publicity then they could generate combined. tbh

Rawr Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 the reason IMO is debuting at #1 is from justin like y are people are so delusional
Rico Shameless v2 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 15 minutes ago, Rawr said: the reason IMO is debuting at #1 is from justin like y are people are so delusional Some are just too thick in the head. It's tiring. Same people who try to discredit people like Rihanna and her collabs. Hitmakers are sought after. You don't just decide to throw JB/Rih on a track. His hook and probably Chance's verse will be the selling point of IMO through the Summer. Wayne's, per usual, is cut from the radio edit and Quavo didn't deliver much on his verse. @ChartsFan If you play HIAM vs Sail to GP, they'll know Sail first. Brit's 2010s songs would be the other FF singles before HIAM. --- 2017 > 2012 for sure. That's always been a weak year for me. WO/PP/CMM/GYC/SS/Stronger are all equally unbearable for me. We Are Young is low key annoying too, but it was nice back then I guess and Boyfriend is neither here or there.
Frozen99 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I'm so happy for him, great tune, stuck for so long at #2. Talent eventually always wins
Mezik Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Brett Young's 'In Case You Didn't Know' may be this year's 'Die a Happy Man'. I hope it could go top-30!
GokuRed Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 2012 was an amazing year for alternative music. STIUTK is T10 songs to grace the H100 while CMM is pop gold and WAY literally changed the course of alternative msuic for the next two years. The pop though was disposable af then (not much better than now tbh. Golden age of pop was '08-'11)

People trying to defend the others are fighting a losing battle. Don't get me wrong, the other people may have selling/streaming power, but nowhere near Justin. You take Justin off this song and they'd have zero support on Top 40 radio. You combine the views of all the other artists channels on YouTube and Justin still has more. He's the selling point for this song and gave it the platform to debut at #1. He has 5 songs that have debuted top 2. Where have the other artists debuted? Only Wayne has top 10 debuts from years ago. Justin probably has more followers on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube than all of them combined as well. And everyone knows 90% of the females and gays watching the music video are because of Justin and the fact that he's shirtless.
Rentboy Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Why are you comparing the other 4 artists individually to Bieber? Thats where you're going wrong. It is about their COMBINED contribution. All their fanbases getting behind the song packs a punch. Thats a match for Bieber and the song wouldnt sound hugely different without Bieber either. It would actually be more credible and less pop. So it would certainly be a hit. How big is anybodies guess. Because its had such a big initial push with a video release its hard to know where the portions of credit lies. Globally he is certainly a big factor cause rap is not so big. Anyways the point is his fans should stop casually referring to it as another Bieber song. If Adele was on a track with 4 other artists I would treat it very different to one of her solo songs. One is not the same as the other. Same if she hopped on an already hugely successful song and just added some English vocals.

If so then you didn't read my post at all. I said Bieber has more than all of them combined. Not each individually which is obvious. And you're saying all of them combined packs a punch and is a match for Bieber. Making something a match for one another means they are close in comparison. Thus you are saying half the songs explosion is due to Bieber. And the reason why it had such a big push with its video release was because Bieber finally appeared in a music video since What Do You Mean?. Bieber sings most of the song and is the largest portion of its success. Yes it isn't a Justin song strictly but you can't deny he's the dominante act propelling the song. And that's why his fan base refers to it as his song. If Adele was on a song with 4 other artists it would probably be massive the first week too. She has more power than Bieber even. If the song featured someone like Nick Jonas, Jason Derulo, or someone along those lines it would not be debuting #1 and that's a fact.
