These 70% drops have not always been the norm. Many albums now sell more than half of their total copies in their first week of release. And, even when albums like No Strings Attached dropped from 2.4 M down to 800k+, NSA still stabilized and went Diamond. Drake opened Views with a huge debut, but even it has only doubled (at most) its total album sales a year after its release. 24K-type albums, with sustained strong, but not giant, sales numbers was what used to be the norm on the BB 200. The best example is Shania Twain's Come On Over, which started with around 180k but went on to sell 100X that much (adding in the 2 M copies sold through BMG).

Actually Drake's "Views" didn't even double its opening week in pure sales - it opened with 852k, and currently stands at 1,674k. Edited May 1, 2017 by Agenor

I was thinking Views started at around 500k raw units. My bad, and thank you for helping me prove my point further ☺ .

I suppose fortunately for these big albums, most other albums burn fast as well, allowing them to remain high on the charts despite the bad drops. but yea, many albums not even doubling open week sales speaks volumes about the overal future longevity of these releases on the bb200. Will these big debuting albums get 200, 300, 400 weeks on the BB200? If so they'll have to do it o streaming alone, and I just don't see these albums streaming for 5-8 years. I doubt many of the recent albums will even make it to 52 weeks.
