1991 was the year when Soundscan started to track sales for albums in the US.

Sales/Units are based on the calendar year

1991-2013 are based on pure album sales

2014-2020 are based on Total Equivalent Album Units (Album sales + TEA + SEA)

* 2020 was the first year on-demand video streams factored into album title totals and chart rankings.

1991

2--Mariah Carey, “Mariah Carey”: 3.38 million

1993

5. Mariah Carey — Music Box: 3,300,000

1994

10. Mariah Carey — Music Box: 2,700,000

1995

4. Mariah Carey — Daydream: 3,900,000

1996

5. Mariah Carey — Daydream: 3,000,000

2005

1. Mariah Carey — The Emancipation of Mimi: 4,969,000

Legend tingz. I forgot how huge Mariah Carey (1990) was. It was #1 for a crazy amount of weeks, too.

Soundscan’s #1 female of all-time.

Bey’s only solo album missing is 4, sadly. :shakeno:

Destiny’s Fulfilled not making it deservingly, took all the hype from her sophomore, we could have had another solo instead.

Yes, she’s really the Adele before Adele. I always say those physical sales artists were absolutely not bigger than the biggest artists nowadays and threads like these prove it but Céline‘a peak is an exception. She managed to pull almost 6M twice in a single calendar year and almost 10M of the Titanic soundtrack: 16M in a year is mind blowing. And the US is not her biggest market. She should have sung a couple more songs on that soundtrack and slap her name on it, god knows most of those sales are because of her song.

Anti being Rih's only entry is kinda shocking? Not something to make fun of, but like not even LOUD or GGGB?

Mariah ruling the 90s :clap3:

Beyonce with 6 entries :clap3:

Taylor's absolute slayage with 10 entries :clap3:

Adele with dominance :clap3:

Janet had a #2 with janet. If she had released more albums during her peak years in the 90s like Mariah did then she would have had more entries. Oh well.

Adele being number #1 two years in a row with THE SAME album... and doing it TWICE (if we talk about PURE sales)...

being on top one year is great, but 2 in a row with the same album? and doing it TWICE? now thats IMPRESSIVE

The way the numbers struggle to go over 4 million in the streaming era :skull:

Also I read somewhere that streaming might have reached its peak already :rip:
