But it really didn't generate any notable hits. And yes, I'm Your Baby Tonight did bring her somewhat back toward Urban. From what I read looking for my links, Whitney was actually booed at the 1989 Soul Train Awards because her music "wasn't Black enough." I didn't see the awards & I doubt you could find them anywhere anyhow anyway any more. 1989 was way before YT. VCR tapes probably fall apart long before now too. DVDs which last longer didn't emerge til 1996/7. The fact Whitney had won so many Grammys & American Music Awards meant 0 to the STA audience. There are those that believe she never really fully got over what happened then & there. The dramatics...you know you can find videos from the 1920s on YT, right? Anyway..she was booed for Whitney, her second album, pretty "white". Then she went Paula Abdulish with I'm Your Baby Tonight (album). Here is the pre-Youtube video:

I remember All The Man I Need really seemed to do the trick in terms of bringing Whitney back to the black community. I don't listen to Urban but it seems like Whitney's songs after Exhale aren't/weren't getting AC RC airplay. Ummm Heartbreak Hotel and the singles from MLIYL (recorded in a few weeks) were all R&B hits.

Those streams are confusing, but good for Stevie. On the charts beside MJ & Donny Hathaway like its 1970 again @Thinking Of You Edit - It's John Legend's version
fridayteenage
Talk of the Charts @talkofthecharts This weeks projected top 5 on Digital Song Sales: #1. Dynamite, @BTS_twt #2. Afterglow, @edsheeran #3. All I Want For Christmas Is You, @MariahCarey #4. Life Goes On, @BTS_twt #5. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Brenda Lee I don't remember dynamite making waves on itunes at all this week; website sales still going strong enough months later. This could tie Happy for most weeks topping without a featured artist. Edited December 27, 2020 by fridayteenage
