TheWayWeWere Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 (edited) me trying to type these write-ups okay while being drunk as **** TOP 50 ALBUMS 20 Rina Sawayama | SAWAYAMA "Guess we fell out, what was that all about?" This is ****ing EPIC. One of the best debuts in a while. I already loved her RINA EP, but on her full-lenght albu8m she goes more into 2000s pop culture by citing both pop radio hits, while including some rock elements as well. She proves that she's not afraid of pushing many genres and mixing them into one infectious banger. By just one year she stoods herself as one of the best artists right now. highlights: Bad Friend, F*** This World, Dynasty, Tokyo Love Hotel 19 Alicia Keys | ALICIA "What if I wasn't Alicia? Would it please ya? How would I feed ya?" After months and months of delays I was sure this album going to be a mess. Instead, Alicia released her best album since 2009. One of her most balanced album, with her both trying on new genres (alt-r&b, reggae, dance) and staying true to her best form (this album provides us with one of her best empowerment anthems and piano ballads in years). This album is engaging, freeminded, interesting and full of good surprises. highlights: Authors of Forever, 3 Hour Drive, Jill Scott, You Save Me, Show Me Love TOP 100 SINGLES 39 La Roux | Gullible Fool "In the morning I pretend I like it but I'm fifty percent" After misstep first single La Roux returns with one of her best songs to date. Long nostalgic disco track with bittersweet lyrics about being overly trusted. Production is amazing. I mean, key change alone! 38 Paloma Faith, Jonas Blue | Mistakes "When will I learn to lock my heart so it doesn't break again?" I adore that tradition of Paloma to start the new era with dance collab (Changing and Lullaby says hi). And this time she collaborates with creater of probably the best dance track last year (Ritual) - Jonas Blue. And the ****, result is gold. Production is top-notch, drop is incredibly catchy, lyrics are heartbreaking, vocals are on top. 37 Jhené Aiko, Future, Miguel | Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.) "Don't be scared of my aggression, just don't get the wrong impression" This mellow r&b jam was probably the catchies song from her album, that really catches your ear. Future and Miguel were great addition to it, especially Miguel who provides the song with such a great hook. This truly spreads happiness all over. 36 Ellie Goulding, Lauv | Slow Grenade "You say name like you know my dark side" Drag me, but this is my favorite pop song from her since like forever. The best track on second disc from Brightest Blue, this one is the most solid one, collab is nice, Lauv vocals blends with Ellie in beautiful sort of melody, while distorted vocals helps to explore the song's theme. 35 Melanie C | Blame It on Me "Went from friends to enemies haunted by the memories" This is ****ing banger! Unapologetic pop bop with many influences from deep house, disco, dance music. It's really deserved to be a hit. Well I wish Disco was higher BUT I am very glad you gave Celebrate You a shoutout. Don't care for the Madonna remix of Levitating, but the original or the DaBaby version (which is fine honestly lol) are so ****ing good and I'm glad they got the single treatment. I finally listened to that Pu$$y Fairy song, it's really good! Apparently it hit the Billboard year end hot 100 which... did it even chart? Ah well, that's usually the case for the songs on the bottom of those lists. sis it went top 40 thanks to album bomb On 12/18/2020 at 5:46 AM, Mr. Loco said: Levitating is a true bop I don't get why DaBaby's version is so hated tho On 12/18/2020 at 4:38 AM, Remmy said: Yeah hmmm @ Positions being this high It's really, really, REALLY lacking some highlights. pov + my hair are up there though The latter is actually my favorite. || Levitating is obviously really great Original >>>> DaBaby >>>>>>>> Missy/Madonna On 12/18/2020 at 4:28 AM, rvx said: Positions On 12/18/2020 at 4:21 AM, JGibson said: Underdog On 12/18/2020 at 3:31 AM, dreamofyou said: like that and levitating positions and disco, yup On 12/18/2020 at 1:59 AM, Pink Matter said: Positions (even though it just barely missed the top 20) Like That, Levitating, PU$$Y Fairy On 12/18/2020 at 1:41 AM, Blue Rose said: Disco legend Pu$$y Fairy stomping On 12/18/2020 at 1:32 AM, Post Malone said: Disco Positions missing the top 20 On 12/18/2020 at 1:08 AM, Kevin2803 said: The Madonna remix of Levitating isn't as bad as people say, but also not amazing Disco & Postions On 12/18/2020 at 1:07 AM, Mark Rih said: Disco and Positions were both good albums, not amazing but good for sure Levitating On 12/18/2020 at 1:06 AM, TalkThatRihanna said: Positions and Levitating (SOLO) Like That is a cute bop as well On 12/18/2020 at 1:06 AM, Sunderland 4ever said: Disco being so close to the Top 20. KasioKas Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Sawayama Happiness over everything is such a vibe! I just don't like future's autotune singing it's so annoying. But nice to see it on a list!
BlackoutZone Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 SAWAYMA great album Slow Granade was cute, but i'm not a fan! Blame It On Me definitely one of the best on the album
ikiru Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 rina > sawayama, but it's still a really good album melanie c still releases music? let me check it out
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Alicia Keys released something this year? Lemme check that one out pronto!
Ewan Chaos Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Surprisingly I haven't drunk written up any of my Best Of stuff this year even though I usually end up doing it once or twice a year sksksksks hope you're having fun sis Rina's album was great, yeah! Interesting top choices though... though I do stan Dynasty esp. the I Care inspired bridge. The Gullible Fool stanning! Suuuuuch a good song and a perfect closer to the album. I actually thought the lead single was FINE, but Gullible Fool blew it out of the water for SURE.
Kevin2803 Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Slow Grenade & Blame It On me are bops SAWAYAMA making it into the top 20
Remmy Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Slow Grenade is definitely cute and overhated, my 2nd favorite from EG.0 (only behind Close to Me.) SAWAYAMA Wish it was higher but it would've been a crime if it missed the top 20. Bad Friend, Dynasty & Tokyo Love Hotel in your favorites YUP that's taste!!!!!!!!!

But hell, she proves me wrong. This is one of the strongers pop records of the year. Basically almost every track is a standout on its own, its very Kylie-esque, but there so many 70's disco inspirations around, that it never feels like rehash or something. Sis, I think this perfectly describes the album Miss A Thing truly is one of the biggest highlights though!! On 12/17/2020 at 8:01 PM, TheWayWeWere said: On her sixth record Ariana tones down a bit, there's no big pop Max Martin-production bops, there not many '7 rings' a like bangers, instead she offers us her most cohesive and r&b project to date. I still don't get how overhated this album was, yeah, it wasn't standout love for me too, but once it grew on me, I can appreciate top-notch production, mellow melodies, tongue-in-cheek lyricism, ol'-school references, some of her best vocal performances and etc. It's not that bad but is too pop for what touted as an R&B album for me I like that you picked my hair as a highlight because it is one of her best songs On 12/17/2020 at 8:01 PM, TheWayWeWere said: Original is ****ing classic. It sounds like disco pop at its best. Once you heard it, your ass can't stop dancing to the beat. And I think I was among minority who actually liked Madonna remix I'll pretend DaBoy remix is not exist tho I love all the versions and remixes
Ghostlysnaker Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 "Mistakes" , "Slow Grenade" I expected more from those collabs, though
