ikiru Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 I think I prefer L'ère du verseau over Complètement fou but it's a tough choice both of them are just extremely good, but L'ère du verseau feels more complete.. idk if that makes sense?
KasioKas Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 I need to check out Empress Of I've heard mixed things on this site

I know this one. The first half of the album is my favorite. 22 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: 26.) Yelle - L'ère du verseau (Synthpop/French Pop) And I know this one too. I should've probably given Yelle one more listen. I would have liked to rate the album. Edited December 16, 2020 by Sunderland 4ever
Ewan Chaos Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 Music not the bling, babes! Anyway one part of this update is dedicated to the success stans xo "I'd rather be dry, but at least I'm alive..." 25.) Lady Gaga - Chromatica (Dance-Pop/Euro House) Her best album since Born This Way, yup! Rain On Me is a bit of a basic top pick, but I really gotta hand it to the producers for really doing their late 90s/early 00s house music research. Rain On Me is already super fun (Gags's robot voice before the post-chorus, then Ari's RAIAINAIN being plastered on with it, so good), but that kinda stuff makes me enjoy the song even more. Babylon makes me dance like an Egyptian slut (only GaGa can rip off Madonna and make it sound good, we know this), Replay SLAPS (remember when the Liddos were PISSED thinking she said "you monsters torture me" and they were calling her ungrateful nskldnsklds), and Free Woman reminds me of the Italo-house I used to play all the time in like 2009 like Moony, so I have no choice but to stan. There are just enough crap songs to drag this down to be above #25 (Fun Tonight, 1000 Doves). I think I saw someone suggest this won't age well because of Bloodpop's productions... idk if I agree with that but I guess we'll see. It's not like it's all just LOUD production that aged Artpop like 2 days after it came out, so I have hope. BE FREE. Listen to: Rain On Me (feat. Ariana Grande), Babylon, Replay, Free Woman, Sour Candy (feat. Blackpink) "I will wait for you to be free..." 24.) Sarah Jarosz - World on the Ground (Singer-Songwriter/Americana) There are 2 more alt-country/Americana albums above this one, but Sarah's record is the one I wish got more listens because it's SO good. It is Grammy nominated though, so I guess it's not that underrated! I hate making this comparison but it's ATRL so I have to: if you liked Folklore/Evermore I really think you'd like this record. The writing is very well done and the production is both not distracting but also really elevates the music. It really helps that the last two tracks on the album are easily the best; makes you stick through listening to the whole album and want to replay (feat. GaGa) it over and over. Listen to: Little Satchell, Empty Square, Pay It No Mind, Johnny, Hometown "Love comes back to find me..." 23.) Jessy Lanza - All the Time (Synthpop/UK Bass) RYM calls this alternative R&B... that can't be right nnn. ANYWAY, I have to admit I was a little "aww this isn't as good as Oh No " rather than giving the album its own chance for the first one or two listens. But once I got past that it QUICKLY grew on me. It's very blip-bloopy music (I mean, that's what like ALL of Jessy's music is), but you really get the emotion throughout the songs, even in the more "sloggy" Badly. Gosh this woman is very talented. This isn't a quarantine album (I don't think???) but it came out at the perfect time because I do get bits of summer lockdown nostalgia for this album. Probably because it's a little more "subdued" than other synthpop releases this year, which YES this was quite a subdued summer compared to other ones. Listen to: Over and Over, Like Fire, Alexander, Lick in Heaven, Badly "Come and light my fire, baby..." 22.) Yves Tumor - Heaven to a Tortured Mind (Neo-Psychedelia/Art Rock) I know my fellow indies gonna hate this take, but I like this more than their previous album? I guess I like more of a rock/accessible sound from them than an experimental sound idk. GOD that opening track is FIRE!!!! I was tempted to pick Medicine Burn as my top track instead to be a little edgy (I guess it's already edgy enough to NOT have Kerosene as the top pick), but the chorus SLAAAAAAPS. The CHAOS of Medicine Burn is so fun to me. AND SIX HUNDERED TEETH! Yeah honestly the rest of the album I rank GENERALLY on the same level (besides the other 3 I've ranked above here), but that is a strong STRONG 1-2 punch to start the album. I think Yves's last album was their experimental, critically acclaimed era, but this era they're getting a BIT more recognition. Good for them! Listen to: Gospel For A New Century, Medicine Burn, Folie Imposee, Kerosene! (feat. Diana Gordon), Super Stars "Endurance is the source of my pride..." 21.) Moses Sumney - Grae (Art Pop/Neo-Soul) Someone said Moses was straight I think on here and I said "no ma'am... no ma'am..." Apparently he also "doesn't publicly label his sexuality" like every artist out there nnn, but yeah I listen to this and I'm like there is NO WAY this man is straight. No way.whitneygif. This just edges ahead of Yves due to the album having more "standout tracks" that I keep going back to. Cut Me is an obvious pick for the top song, but it captivated me instantly. Not to end on a "meh" note, but this 100% deserves to miss the top 20 for most of what part 2 ended up being, unfortunately. I know I don't have a top pick from that part of the album LOL, but if I had to pick it'd be Bless Me & Before You Go since they're clearly meant to be listened to together. Listen to: Cut Me, Neither/Nor, In Bloom, Virile, Conveyor
Remmy Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Chromatica Full of bops, I don't care what some of the other hoes say! Rain On Me + Replay are both amazing Free Woman is nice and underappreciated. Her best album since BTW though, interesting take!
Ewan Chaos Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 Comments under the spoiler~ Spoiler 23 hours ago, Insanity said: I just listened to some of Empress Of the past week and I instantly loved it So good right! If you find yourself wanting more, check out her first album; it's her best imo and has a similar-ISH vibe to I'm Your Empress Of, but it's a bit more... pop-ish. If you REALLY want pop Empress Of, check out her second album, but most people hate it nnn. 22 hours ago, TalkThatRihanna said: More music idk Lemme give that Tame Impala record a listen I'd recommend it! But you'll know at least ONE girlie in this new update nnn 22 hours ago, Post Malone said: Let me wait until an album that more than 3 people know shows up Music not the bling! 22 hours ago, Remmy said: I'm Your Empress Of is good Everyone drags Us but I actually enjoyed it nnn Love Is a Drug, Give Me Another Chance, U Give It Up sksksksk hey I'll say that the 3 or so songs I liked on Us I REALLY liked. Also yaaaas stan the top 3 of the album. 22 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: omg, there's someone who still likes her debut over Masterpiece in Paradise? I think her step-up from self-titled to follow-up was so big, so I expected a bit more from Supervision still loves most of it It's ALL I EVER SEE PEOPLE SAY! Both indies and pop stans! I get the high expectations for Supervision nnn. 19 hours ago, Kevin2803 said: Still waiting La Roux is cool tho, but i haven't listen to the new album yet. THIS IS THE UPDATE GIRL. I think you should check out La Roux's album if you liked the last one! 19 hours ago, Madame X said: alright its getting gayer and i like it. i didn't know george clanton had a project out, will check out cuz i liked his last album and god i need to listen to a better chillwave album than the washed out one lol your picks for the albums are pretty muchy spot on. i switched like a ****** w la roux, i actually preferred their debut for a LONG time but then about 3 years ago let me down gently really hit me and now i love the whole album. her debut has a classic singles run, and uh, thats all lol. i definitely like the new yelle more than complement fou, lol. like way way way more. complement fou only song i stanned was bassin, this one i like them all. omg George's album is way better than that trash Washed Out album nnn. Yeah check it out for sure. For La Roux (self-titled) I was the ONLY one who saw that album as a singles run and maybe 1 or 2 songs outside of that but everyone was like Pop Queen! NO! Interesting, I'm like 90% sure I'll like the new Yelle (love that no one calls it by the actual title because none of us speak French nnn) more as I continue to listen to it. I do love me bops tho. 19 hours ago, Legend E said: Let me wait until an album that more than 3 people know shows up [2] Music not the bling! [2] 17 hours ago, GreatestLoveofAll said: Empress Of, tbh I thought she made like alternative R&B but its listed as synthpop so that's three albums to listen to! I mean... she does sound like someone who would make alternative R&B hahaha but NO she's a bop-maker! 16 hours ago, minho said: a lot of these.. i haven't listened to BUT i appreciate your write ups a lot and i will be checking out a few for sure. Omar & Zebra mostly... I'll defiintely try to ge tto those!!! Meanwhile for the others.. I ended up not being gripped by Sufjan's singles so i skipped his album. It's interesting to see him get more mixed reviews since usually everyone loves everything he touches folklore at #50 i like it a lot BUT i also think evermore is even better so... spoiler? My indie tastes are strong every year, I think that was the fear in doing ranked lists I think the problem with Sufjan was all the Carrie & Lowell/Call Me By Your Name stans he picked up wanted that emo sound from him so when they started dragging him them critics probably were like "**** it we don't like it either" Yaaaaas tbh I would have guessed you would prefer Evermore anyway because you serve taste 10 hours ago, K$Ellie said: I haven't heard the La Roux album but I hurd it's a total rehash and it came after a 6 year wait so that's why I think evermore worked, if she released it as a separate album a few years later the reception probs wouldn't have been as good I'm Your Empress Of was v good, it's my first album from her so I should probs check out her debut since I've heard that's good Mmmmmmm that is lowkey true about La Roux LOL but hey I loved that last album of hers so I was happy to hear more. It pissed me off the first few times I listened tho ngl. YAAAAS check out Empress Of's debut for sure. It's a little different than the rest of the album but Kitty Kat is my easy standout track, and How Do You Do It is a BOPPPPPP 10 hours ago, geodancefreak said: Wait, I am honestly shocked you liked that La Roux album. It sounds pretty bad to me LMFAO did you not like Trouble in Paradise either? 7 hours ago, Lazuli said: trouble in paradise IS better than their debut tho supervision tho... all the songs could be compressed into one really good song. an entire album was just unnecessary empress of is cute! Totally understand that La Roux thought for that album nnn I kinda felt the same way but then realized I really liked it so BUT FINALLY people saying the truth that Trouble in Paradise is better than debut. 5 hours ago, Mark Rih said: Empress Of's album is really good. Idk why I didn't use it more since I love that genre, but she really deserves more attention You spilled! 5 hours ago, ikiru said: I think I prefer L'ère du verseau over Complètement fou but it's a tough choice both of them are just extremely good, but L'ère du verseau feels more complete.. idk if that makes sense? Yep I 100% feel the same way and you are very correct. Completement Fou is for BOPS and the new Yelle album is for talent, I'd say. 48 minutes ago, KasioKas said: I need to check out Empress Of I've heard mixed things on this site Yeah she's on a lot of people's Best Of lists! I'd recommend it OR her debut since that's a little less "repetitive". 32 minutes ago, Sunderland 4ever said: Hey! I know this one. The first half of the album is my favorite. Yeah I'd suggest keep checking out Yelle if you liked her previous stuff. I only know Completement Fou outside of this album, but I think both are great.
Mark Rih Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 I'm torn.mp3 on Chromatica. It has some great highs (yes Replay and ROM are part of them) but also some terrible lows (but I will remain silent about these unfortunate tracks )
BlackoutZone Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 No shade, but Moses an F word yup Very good album and I agree with the highlights
TalkThatRihanna Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Finally a girlie I know And taste Chromatica is definitely her best since BTW
Kevin2803 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 YEEES, CHROMATICA Finally something i know and love.
KasioKas Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Idk any of these :( And I didn't listen to gag beyond ROM
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 The Chromatica acclaim is what we like here, yes maam
potent Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I guess I'm basic since I only know Chromatica, I didn't like it that much though Moses sounds kinda interesting though!

ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 17, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 17, 2020 oh hello chromatica i wouldn't say it's her best since btw, asib exists
smholiv Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Chromatica is interesting! I've never been that much of a Gaga listener but I ended up liking Chromatica purely because its just an enjoyable album the whole way through. I grew tired of it as the year progressed but I definitely don't think it deserves to be so polarizing. It's solid! Yves was also a great album. It's not the easiest sit down and listen to album but I respect their vision and ambition as an artist - really great stuff too
Tom Vercetti Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I will say Chr*matica is more listenable than her last 3 albums. I think I prefer Yves Tumor albums with as little vocals as possible which is why Serpent Music is my current fave from them. Similar w/ Perfume Genius, happy to see Yves get more recognition tho.
geodancefreak Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 YAAASSS BABY STAN CHROMATICA! I agree with the 1000 Doves shade hihih
Lazuli Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 chromatica replay is kind of a middling track for me, but yas stan sour candy gonna ignore what you said about fun tonight and 1000 doves tho! grae is cute but it did not need to be a 2 part album that could put me to sleep
TheWayWeWere Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Chromatica full time jamming record Yves' Kerosene is a banger ! MV is pure gold
Pink Matter Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Yves and Moses + GGM in your last update I think I prefer all over their most recent efforts to their last ones! Likely because for the first two the sound was much more accessible. I really enjoyed Jardin but I think the production was a bit too sparse at times where the album felt empty? If that makes sense. The music felt more full this time around so that's part of why Aguita>Jardin for me
