ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 3, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 best fiction.... is a woman of taste
bestfiction Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 HONORABLE MENTIONS So here's the list of standalone singles or nice tracks from bad/mediocre albums that didn't make the cut into my top-20 In no order: TWICE - I Can't Stop Me After the excellence of FANCY and Feel Special, TWICE made a really unfortunate misstep in the form of the More & More EP that held me back from jumping on the TWICE bandwagon. Their 2nd studio album was a bit of a return to form for them thanks to I Can't Stop Me and some other nice cuts like Say Something or Up No More. Still, not really enough for me to get on board with them but enough for me to view More & More as an accident rather than an indication of their artistic trajectory. Ellie Goulding - Tides The new Ellie Goulding album was pretty... anticlimactic. There are some artsy songs like Power or the serpentwithfeet collab but her attaching the generic droplets like Close to Me to the end made Brightest Blue a bit of an excruciating experience. TIdes, in a way, serves as a middle ground between these two characteristics; it's a pretty much of your casual everyday bop but it's much better produced than the DJ collabs and stands out from the rest of the album thanks to that. Hayley Williams - Sugar On The Rim Literally a MASSEDUCTION demo but thanks to that, it has easily became a highlight on that snoozefest of an album. Halsey - You should be sad Kero Kero Bonito - It's Bugsnax! Considering that KKB draw a massive inspiration from the video game music, it only makes sense for them to record a theme song for a game. It's very cute and brings up Bonito Generation vibes, which I'm always here for! Lady Gaga – Babylon I lowkey really hated how Gaga took the 90s house music as the main aesthetic, it's so overdone now but ripping off Vogue is never a bad idea + some nice production elements like the bird sounds in the intro and the saxophone added flavor to the track. ITZY - WANNABE A massive banger and one of the three (3) good songs they've released this year. SUNMI - pporappippam I've actually come to realization that I like pretty much all of the Sunmi singles... Even LALALAY that is pretty hated. pporappipam is one of the many retro pop delights that we've been served this year, the song just works. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Crying At The Discotheque Sophie Ellis-Bextor serving disco excellence... what a surprise x Ariana Grande - love language positions sucked but this one is sooo cuuuuute ? loving the Impactnet's New Jack Swing vibe x BLACKPINK f/ Selena Gomez - Ice Cream Literally their only good song since the Square Up EP x I guess Selena's artistry and rarity came thru in this track. "I'm nice with a cream if you know what I mean" is one of the most touching and relatable lyrics from this year to me. Phoebe Bridgers - Kyoto Heard this one during last ATRL's Song Contest and loved it instantly but alas, just like with Hayley, the album turned out ot be quite a snooze.
mokitsu Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 good HMs TWICE's new song that they just performed is a mature serve, you'll stan and yeah BB worked for me once i cut the 2nd disc with the singles and forgot they ever existed. ice cream avant garde
Post Malone Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 YSBS and BibleON Also it was the catch me in the FRIDGE right where the ice BE for me
