Ewan Chaos Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Tswizzle getting two noms in the track category, good for her. Peace is pretty good, definitely should have been the actual closer. Rooting for Future Nostalgia (title track) for that one though!
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 9, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 9, 2020 carrie harry and dua plz also stan mirrorball
Remmy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Tenille Arts all over these noms She's the only BNA selection I like so far. Harry & Taylor in Artist of the Year, both insanely well deserved peace has always been one of my least favorites from folklore while mirrorball is cute and a grower Future Nostalgia would actually win that category for me, the track definitely starts things off nicely.
potent Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Title track is definitely one of the best from Dua's album I liked the sound Harry was going for this era and I think for the most part he did it well! Great single choices too (although I'm def tired of WS at this point lol)
K$Ellie Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Future Nostalgia is such a good song ahhhh one of my faves on the album love peace and especially mirrorball but they're not my absolute faves so I hope Dua takes this Megan or Taylor for the other two categories

Mezik Posted December 11, 2020 Author Posted December 11, 2020 (edited) Mezik's Best of 2020 - Single of the Year Nominations *For the best album single released between December 1st, 2019 to December 1st, 2020 * Carrie Underwood & John Legend - 'Hallelujah' Honestly this single does not even feel like a 'Christmas' single, which is why I feel I appreciate it so much more. Carrie and John's voices together sound heavenly, and the range they both showcase in this song is amazing. Overall the inspirational message can be viewed as cheesy, but it's classic Carrie and truly one of her signature themes. The simplicity within the production as well makes the vocals take the spot light. It's the type of music Carrie shines singing, and probably a better track than anything on her last album. Jesse Ware - 'What's Your Pleasure?' So I discovered this artist thanks to the 'Best of' section this year, and this song just stood out. There's something so orgasmic about this track on the ears, and the production really reminds me of Madonna's Confessions album. Her voice is so sultry as well, but still commands the track as powerful. I see why all of ATRL went crazy over this women's album, because it is fantastic and the title track is all I needed to hear to know that. Megan thee Stallion (Feat. Beyoncé) - 'Savage' This monstrous hit just was unescapable this year. When making the list of what my top five favourite singles of the year would be, there were several of Megan's that I had trouble choosing from because she just released quality releases this year. In the end, I feel that this was the single that really stuck with me this year. Whether it was through social media, on the radio, or on my own listening devices this song was everywhere and I could not get enough of it. Also, nothing like two of music's finest women getting you amped out for a long stretch of night shifts when all you wanna do is hide in bed and stay stuck in your depression. Taylor Swift & Bon Iver - 'exile' Really any of the songs Taylor released as singles this year could've made it, but I think this just continues to grow on me every day. Bon Iver adds such a magical presence to the track, and they both sound heavenly together. I think the final bridge and chorus just stick with me, and is one of the finest techniques Taylor has ever used to convey such a hard and emotional message. The lake versions only improved my feelings about this song, and the funny thing is I was 'meh' about it upon the release of the album and now it's probably my favourite track. The Weeknd - 'Blinding Lights' Everything about this track felt like a journey back in time to 80s/90s pop and got me going every damn time. I think I have always appreciated The Weeknd's pop efforts more than his R&B work, and this song satisfied everything I wanted in his work. The chorus just EXPLODES every single time, and the lowkey verses emphasize the chorus so much more. King was robbed at the Grammys. Edited December 11, 2020 by Mezik

Stacie was everywhere in my childhood, when I recently got back into it I had so much nostalgia. Also I agree about Kylie, there's just something so incredible about On a Night Like This - truly a pop masterpiece. 9 hours ago, gagacasanova said: Little Drummer Boy, the princess of Christmas did THAT Honestly, it's grown on me so much. Honestly they're quite close. Also, 'peace' makes me so emotional. It's truly so under-appreciated, along with 'hoax'. I'm glad you feel the same. Rooting for Future Nostalgia (title track) for that one though! 'peace' would've been a fantastic closer for the album, but I under stand why 'hoax' is it... and even then I like where 'hoax' is on the album and can't imagine 'peace' as the closer anymore. Future Nostalgia is a bop. It took me from casual fan of Dua to STAN when listening to it. What a way to open an album. Tenille is my Canadian girl, I have to give her the credit she deserves and showcase everyone the next country/pop princess. Honesty I think a lot of the gays would love her work. You have impeccable taste, so I'm glad you like some of the nominees. I'm actually LOVING Golden, and hope it can see a good amount of success following the last two smashes. : On 12/9/2020 at 4:28 PM, KasioKas said: I hope Doja & FN win!! Mezik Posted December 11, 2020 Author Posted December 11, 2020 (edited) Mezik's Best of 2020 - Song of the Year Nominations *For the single released between December 1st, 2019 to December 1st, 2020 with the best lyrics.* Alicia Keys - 'Underdog' (Alicia Keys, Johnny McDaid, Ed Sheeran, Foy Vance, Jonny Coffer, Amy Wadge) This song is a feel good song that is meant to life your spirits and get you through the hard times. Alicia has released some questionable music since 'As I Am', and I think this was a return to Alicia I grew to admire and become a huge fan of. There's something so simple, yet detailed and textured about it. It definitely helped me with getting through this year, and makes me feel inspired when I am at my low points. Mickey Guyton - 'What Are You Gonna Tell Her?' (Mickey Guyton, Victoria Banks, Emma-Lee, Karen Kosowski) Mickey released multiple heavy-subjected songs this year, and honestly any of them could've fit the 'song of the year' criteria. However, I think this song has stronger lyrics and is much more clever with getting the message across. The way the song is set up to contradict everything that seems positive and optimistic, really emphasizes the realities that many women live with. Furthermore, being a black women in country music truly makes the lyrics that much more powerful in the grand scheme of things. Taylor Swift - 'cardigan' (Taylor Swift, Aaron Dessner) Taylor is our generation's ultimate song writer, and the lead single off of 'folklore' displayed why. Taylor is so colourful and clever with her wording, and is able to share the emotions of what she was feeling with ease on every track she releases. 'cardigan' is no different, and paints a vivid picture of heartbreak and betrayal, and is another topic many can relate too. Taylor is truly the queen of being universal in her delivery of emotions. Tenille Arts - 'Everybody Knows Everybody' (Tenille Arts, Allison Margaret Cruz, Alex Kline) So, growing up in a small town and now missing it immensely this song hits me to the core. It's a fun ode' to your small towns where your local hook up becomes a front page news story the next day. It's a cheer to the gossiping, the over confidence, and recognizing these small things that made us hate the towns we grew up in are actually what we grow to miss. I think because I listened to this on repeat while discovering Schitt's Creek the song lyrics really were that much more reinforcing. Regardless, Ms. Arts knows how to to write and I encourage everyone to listen to this as she is witty with her lyrics and it's great to see. The Chicks - 'Sleep at Night' (Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer, Teddy Geiger, Justin Tranter) I think this is the most pop-friendly song they have released as a trio, and it is fantastic. With the help of Teddy and Justin they are able to deliver a message of heartbreak, and they get all of Natalie's dirty divorce out in a clever way that is still... catchy? I know it is meant to be a sincere and heartfelt song, but the lyrics also work in a manner that makes this song an absolute banger. T'is a shame they got no Grammy nominations, because this song easily deserved a handful. Edited December 11, 2020 by Mezik
