(There's Gonna be) More to Life ahh a great throwback :jamming: Physical, cardigan & Blinding Lights have solid videos but Dua'd is my favorite of the bunch.

Good luck to "WAP" and "cardigan" - both amazing videos. I kinda like Dua's "Physical" but I can't help but think of it as a rip-off of bubbling under queen Bonnie Mckee's "Bombastic" vid.

How is the new Chris Stapleton album? I haven’t heard much about it.

im rooting for Unthinkable for Best Throwback :duca:

Mezik's Best of 2020 - New Artist of the Year Nominations

*For the New Artist that made their official breakthrough on the charts (and with me) between December 1st, 2019 and December 1st, 2020.*

Doja Cat

Doja_Cat_-_Hot_Pink.png

At first I really was not a huge fan of 'Say So', but after listening to the album Doja won me over. I feel she offers a much different style compared other singer/rapper females, in the sense she can actually sing and doesn't sound awful when she does? Furthermore, she truly was EVERYWHERE during 2020 and worked her ass off to deliver A Tier performances. I feel she can have a really strong next era, with the right work, promotion and team behind her.

Gabby Barrett

Barrett_goldmine.jpg

'I Hope' was nothing but a song barely making any moves on country radio by the end of 2019. Come 2020 it has become one of the biggest crossover hits the genre has ever seen, up with the likes of 'Before he Cheats', 'Breathe' and 'Love Story'. I truly want to see her succeed into 2021, but she needs to make it clear she is totally against everything her father and husband stand for. If not, at least we got a cute bop (with a great remix) and a decent album from her!

Ingrid Andress

Andress_ladylike.jpg

She may have not been as big as Gabby, but Ingrid made an equally large mark with her hit 'More Hearts than Mine' and earned multiple Grammy nominations for her debut era. Starting as a pop song writer, she knows how to write a catchy country tune and solid debut album. Personally, she has been my favourite debut from the country scene this year and I hope she can see continued success (despite her recent singles flopping).

Megan thee Stallion

Megan_Thee_Stallion_-_Good_News.png

This women was just taking a win, after win, after win this year didn't she? Her collaborations were fire, her album was 100% filled with hits, and she put out some of the best music videos of the year by any artist. She has an incredible dedication to her work, and I think she has the potential to be as big as some of rap's biggest females. Her confidence and sexuality make her more likeable, she has the entire package and I can't wait to see how her career blows up.

Tenille Arts

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRo9i34rlEilJ4xz1rQ26wcAY6cdCUnOPWPpw&usqp=CAU

Shamelessly plugging my Canadian women as she has the crossover appeal that Taylor, Maren and Carrie all have and deserves to be HUGE. 2020 saw Tenille crossover into the U.S country market becoming one of the highest charting female songs on country radio to be release by an independent radio with 'Somebody Like That'. She followed up with the 'ode to small town anthem 'Everbody Knows Everybody' which truly just makes me smile every time I listen to it as it is something very much relatable to the town I call home. This women is hella talented, and has the potential to be as big as country's leading females. I hope her career picks up now with the success of Somebody Like That, because she truly deserves it.

Mezik's Best of 2020 - Artist of the Year Nominations

*For Artist that made the biggest impact in my life/musical taste in 2020.*

Carrie Underwood

220px-Carrie_Underwood_-_My_Gift.png

Would it be a true 'Best Of' by moi if I did not include my leading queen? The beginning of the year was a bit slow since she was letting the fourth single from the 'Cry Pretty' era just drag on and on, but since 'Drinking Alone' was of the standouts at release I was more than happy to hear it on the radio. Fast forward to September, and she released 'My Gift' which is already shaping up to be a Holiday classic including all my absolute favourite Christmas carols. Furthermore, she has released two AMAZING collaborations this year - Gospel AC smash 'Hallelujah' and Spanish Crossover slayage 'Tears of Gold'. 15-years in and Carrie continues to give me surprise after surprise, and with how successful this Christmas era was I hope she maintains enough hype leading into her next studio era.

Harry Styles

220px-Harry_Styles_-_Fine_Line.png

While I was not the biggest fan of Harry's first era, 'Fine Line' made me STAN for him. Every single he has released is perfectly formulated Pop/Rock heaven, and his hits 'Adore You' and 'Golden' have been staples in my song library this year. It is amazing how his artistry continues to grow consistently since he left One Direction, and I am thankful for them breaking up because I truly cannot think of hiding this man's solo talent from the world. He's humble, he's cute and he knows how to release quality.

Little Mix

220px-Little_Mix_-_Confetti.png

This is probably the most surprising entry for me on this, because before 2020 I was not the biggest Little Mix fan... but the minute 'Break Up Song' was released I instantly could not get enough of them. Fast forward to the release of 'Holiday' and 'Sweet Melody' I do not know what I was doing with my life not listening to them. Their album is filled with solid tracks, and 'Sweet Melody' has grown to one of my absolute favourite songs of the year. I am a tad bit sad I have really started appreciated them when they have decided to take a hiatus and disband, because now all I want is more Little Mix.

Megan thee Stallion

Megan_Thee_Stallion_-_Good_News.png

Surprise, the hot girl herself is also one of my top artists of this year. She really was just everywhere, and as someone who is not a huge fan of rap she makes me want to explore the genre even more. Her presence is just something to be in awe over and appreciated. I have never seen an artist work as hard as her in 2020 to serve quality single, after single, video, after video, and performance after performance.

Taylor Swift

220px-Taylor_Swift_-_Folklore.png

Honeslty Tay-Swizzle's surprise release hit me so differently than all the other artists who have used this strategy in the past. Perhaps it's because Taylor is always so well calculated and methodical with her releases, I just never thought Taylor would surprise drop a new album out of nowhere. Also, with 'Lover' being just under a year old I thought that we were more likely to get a Deluxe Edition/Reissue of that before getting a new album all together. This women literally saved me from my dread this year with her songs, and on top of that her documentary helped keep me occupied for many boring nights during lockdown this year. She is a genious, and is easily our generation's icon.

Mezik's Best of 2020 - Track of the Year Nominations

*For the best album track (non-single) released between December 1st, 2019 to December 1st, 2020 *

Carrie Underwood & Isaiah Fisher - 'Little Drummer Boy'

220px-Carrie_Underwood_-_My_Gift.png

I know I am going to be questioned for this choice, but Carrie singing with her son is just SO CUTE. There's just something so cheerful listening to Carrie sing with her first born, and there's just something so cheerful knowing that Carrie probably loved every single moment of recording this track. When the album was first released this was the track that made the most traction, and I think it's because of how adorable it is.

Dua Lipa - 'Future Nostalgia'

220px-Dua_Lipa_-_Future_Nostalgia_(Official_Album_Cover).png

This title track serves it's purpose, and tells the listener "this album is gonna slay, and ruin your life". It's just whacky, but gets you nostalgic of 80s/90s pop. It high energy, high fun, and overall high quality. This is easily the best track on the album, which says something for an album filled entirely with amazing tracks.

Kelsea Ballerini - 'The Way I Used To'

220px-Kelsea_-_Kelsea_Ballerini_album_cover.jpg

'kelsea' is another album that had really strong album tracks, and probably could've released any of the tracks as singles and see decent success. This track though is such a breezy, light-hearted, crossover piece and really represents Kelsea's overall music style well. She has always been on the line between too pop, and just country enough, and I think this track is a perfect blend of all the elements that make Kelsea who she is.

Taylor Swift - 'mirrorball'

220px-Taylor_Swift_-_Folklore.png

Taylor sounds so Godly on this track, and it's odd because it isn't your standard pop song structure but yet is so infectious in it's delivery that I found myself listening to this track more frequently than the singles off the album. It's just pure ear candy, and listening to the explanation of this track by Taylor made me appreciate it even more because for the longest time I just didn't get what the song was about at all because I'm a dumb bitch.

Taylor Swift - 'peace'

220px-Taylor_Swift_-_Folklore.png

I found that this track was so different vocally than everything Taylor has ever recorded before, and the cry in her voice really emphasized the pain she must have been in when writing this. It feels like this is the natural follow-up to 'Delicate', another masterpiece that is in the upper tier of Taylor's discography. More than anything, I feel this song is relatable in a way that a lot of us go through self-doubts and worry that we'll never be able to offer our loved ones the peace of mind we want to give them.. and that kinda just hit me hard when listening to it the first time through.
