ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 11, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2020 hey screw you! i was going to be the first one to shock the masses by putting a madison beer on my list next to a bunch of indie pretentious ****! the best song from soul lady is probably the title track, so im glad you got that right, but to be fair, it was not an easy decision to make. yukika should be higheer, she's way better than anything else on the album update! tho i guess i haven't heard taemin lol. empress of is very good though. i agree w your description of folklore but it ain't gonna be on my list tbh. its just... good, but not great to me.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 11, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2020 also this stayc song is good wtf who are they
Mr. Loco Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Fever is a great bop, Dua & Angelique's voices work great together! folklore is a really cute album, I loved her pop sound more, but this one is great too
Psycho Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Cute songs but only StayC Gurrs made my list Folklore flopping
BlackoutZone Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Surprised this Ariana rip off is so high, but that's definitely my favorite Madison track so far Even more surprised with Fever since it didn't make my list, but the chemistry between them is truly great, Dua wisely chooses her collabs So happy to see the double Soul Lady acclaim, I remember lurking on RYM after the album dropped and you gave the album 1.5/5 or smth, what's the tea Eversnooze wishes to be AOTYlore wbk

Blue Rose Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Folklore. Loved Cardigan, the 1, August and Exile. taylor actually going to make an appearance on my list, for the first time ever Halsey cute, but the album was a mumbo jumbo. But I liked a couple of tracks.

Remmy Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Fever is cute but doesn't do a lot for me. Boyfriend || Dedicated Side B I will always prefer the original though. There's some strong highlights on Manic + I'm Your Empress Of, including finally // beautiful stranger & Love Is a Drug. folklore august is the best track from it YUP!
1998tweety Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Soul Lady, Taemin, folklore, Manic whew the taste on this update Yukika absolutely released one of the best albums of the whole year Baby is cute too, deserved to smash a bit. If the blackfisher can do it then why can't Madison too?

Ewan Chaos Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Fifth LEAD single? Who is this woman. Soul Lady a GAWGEOUS title track. Yukika also probably my favorite in your album list, or Empress Of. Yukika retired? nnn bummer right when I was finally into a KPOP act

K$Ellie Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Baby kinda stomped on positions huh Boyfriend is whatever, So Bad is cute enough, Fever is a nice bop and Soul Lady is a stun love to see some Manic acclaim, it's a great album despite what a lot of people say, lowkey too experimental for them folklore far too low but I'll take it and pray that you'll see the light with evermore by the end of the year Soul Lady flawless album, glad it's so high Never Gonna Dance Again on the other hand, quite hit of miss
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 12, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2020 nice to see manic here, it's a very underrated album i actually relistened to folklore after a while and ended up liking it. the songwriting still falls flat in some places though.
Pink Matter Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Ugh I'm so behind on updates but I saw many good picks! I actually quite liked Chilombo the few times I listened to it. There were some really nice standout tracks besides the singles (the Ab Soul and John Legend tracks for instance). Tennis' singles really slayed me at the beginning of the year (!!) but I for some reason I never went back to the album. I initially felt the singles were soooo much stronger than the album as a whole. I think people do a biT too much on Disclosure (FWIW I quite enjoyed Caracal ) The Energy EP was solid and the little bit I heard of the album was also quite good too.
Lazuli Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 boyfriend is a cute girl manic is the only decent halsey album folklore a little low but i'll take it! great to see peace in your top 3 tho empress of

Baby, So Bad, Fever are all 10/10s and I do agree about STAYC being rookie of the year, they just did the damn thing that had to be done and the whole group looks and sounds really solid and each member is special, love them so much. Manic is a massively underrated record for no reason, I think Halsey did a really great job there and it's such a well-put record, Folklore and I'm Your Empress Of are both classics 19 hours ago, dangerousalex said: boyfriend, baby and fever 18 hours ago, Mr. Loco said: Fever is a great bop, Dua & Angelique's voices work great together! folklore is a really cute album, I loved her pop sound more, but this one is great too 18 hours ago, Psycho said: Cute songs but only StayC Gurrs made my list Folklore flopping 18 hours ago, BlackoutZone said: Surprised this Ariana rip off is so high, but that's definitely my favorite Madison track so far Even more surprised with Fever since it didn't make my list, but the chemistry between them is truly great, Dua wisely chooses her collabs So happy to see the double Soul Lady acclaim, I remember lurking on RYM after the album dropped and you gave the album 1.5/5 or smth, what's the tea Eversnooze wishes to be AOTYlore wbk 17 hours ago, Blue Rose said: Folklore. mokitsu Posted December 12, 2020 Author Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) SONGS i've spoken about the pure fun of "disco" before, and while its lead single "say something" was a bit limp, the follow-up "magic" hits all the right spots and kylie-isms, blending the best 70s disco tropes into a mature and polished piece of pop perfection. it's groovy and euphoric, i just want to scream that chorus everytime it comes on. after the first five bangers in "future nostalgia", dua slows down. she had shouted at her lover that she wanted to get physical and riot all night, but "pretty please", even if more sparse and chill than the other songs, is just as full of tension, sexuality and confusion. in it, she describes the early stages of a relationship after you're done playing games and just want the other person for yourself (on top of you). this starts quite simple with just a guitar playing and gradually builds up as she starts getting in the zone and asking more - "every single night, i need your hands on me". a great change of pace for the record, even if it still has the groovy and infectious elements of "future nostalgia". i knew "in your eyes" would be one of my top tracks of the year as soon as i heard it the first time. from the opening notes we are reminded of sade's classic "no ordinary love" - and while the guitars in that song are traded for strings here, the hypnotic and aquatic feel remains in this track. as a song about intense and transcendental love, jessie does a great job of capturing the desperation and darkness of a fractured relationship. after her biggest year yet, which climaxed with an historic grammy sweep and a bond theme song, billie returned with "my future" - a welcome departure from her old sound into something more mature, jazzy, self assured and definitely less chart friendly. as the poster child for modern teen angst, it's really beautiful how she took the reigns of her personal image (one that's been so dissected, torn apart and analyzed even before she turned 18) and came out with this bright eyed, optimistic song that is still clouded with mystery. the good thing is, for once, she's not scared to venture in it. i admit i HATED dolerme when it first came out. i loathed the production, which sounded cheap to me, and the weird autotune-heavy chorus. after a few plays, though, it really hit me, and it's undoubtedly my favorite ballad of the year. the comparisons to madonna's opus "ray of light" are obvious, and she recreates the perfect blend of trip hop and folk in a creative and personal way. even if you don't understand a word of spanish, the emotion in her voice (that is heightened by the vocal effects in the chorus) is moving.
