hjelp Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Ahhhhh Red Velvet I love milky way, it might be their only release this year but the jazzy sound and voquelles make it one of my favorites as well.
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 9, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 9, 2020 midnight sky and weird fishes i'd say there are better haim choices petals for armor rare
Ewan Chaos Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 HAYLEY WILLIAMS TALENT. Great picks. I'm happy to see Why We Ever basically the top pick on everyone's list even if they didn't like the full album. Leaning on You!!!! A great pick from Haim and incredibly underrated. I didn't care much for it when it came out, but man do I just adore it now. The chorus is so cute and the "solo" in the breakdown just adds to the FEELS I get from the song.
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Oh yes. Long time I hadn't seen Color Theory is someone's YECD. Fantastic album. My fave from your list of songs is Leaning On You.
Remmy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Rare is kinda cute but there's a few too many duds. I Disagree Poppy killed it. Really never expected a Hayley Williams solo debut album to be this polarizing (amongst fans) but luckily we both have the CORRECT opinion on it! I don't remember what Leaning On You sounds like When I saw the song title I was like "wait, that was on the album?" Midnight Sky Miley did what she had to do for suuure.
potent Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Hayley's album was cute, nothing hugely memorable but not too bad! Leave It Alone is a highlight for sure, I think I liked more uptempo tracks though like Pure Love and Over Yet Leaning on You definitely giving Fleetwood Mac vibes
Pink Matter Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Ungodly Hour and Alone Again both should be higher!!! Leaning On You is a great pick from WIM3 After how good her debut was, I was kinda disappointed in the Lianne album maybe I'll go back to it in the future. Also never really got the Flo Milli love either dd. Maybe I'll give her another try in the future

In the past I haven't really been impressed with Miley but this new album was quite good. As for Rare...I agree tbh. I see people constantly drag it but it's a cute lil album with only 2 or so duds, a lot less than some of these other pop girlies can say... 19 hours ago, Enigmanotta said: Midnight Sky is way too low, PFA being right above Rare... This injustice. 19 hours ago, Madame X said: im gonna be honest and say i didnt like anything rv put out this year.... psycho left a bad taste in my mouth. im glad you enjoyed weird fishes as much as me. picking the cover as your fave from an artist always comes off bad, but her cover is SO good. also weird that kelly lee owens released an album around the same time with a radiohead cover too. i thought i hadn't heard anything from niki but i have def heard her before upon watching this video. its a little to low energy for me but i get the appeal. this album update is very good too, with flo milli, and hayley ii love that flo milli basically sounds like a schoolyard bully. 19 hours ago, BlackoutZone said: I enjoyed their Milky Way cover for sure, as you've said the original is dated now so they took the right spin on it Midnight Sky and Switchblade excellent I don't hate on Rare, but it really did end up being disappointing after serves like Bad Liar and Fetish, at least we got Vulnerable and Boyfriend Petals for Armor as an album was definitely just there, but the stand outs great 19 hours ago, Post Malone said: Rare and Midnight Sky whew Deserved higher tho 16 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: Midnight Sky is such a classic already I hate US for making it wrong Leaning on You among my favorites from WIM I DID expect something better from Rare, but at least she gave us few bops from it 14 hours ago, hjelp said: Ahhhhh Red Velvet I love milky way, it might be their only release this year but the jazzy sound and voquelles make it one of my favorites as well. 11 hours ago, TalkThatRihanna said: Midnight Classique 11 hours ago, Legend E said: midnight sky and weird fishes i'd say there are better haim choices petals for armor rare 9 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: HAYLEY WILLIAMS TALENT. mokitsu Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 SONGS i don't care for gaga's music one bit but i gotta give the woman her flowers when i think she deserves it. and "rain on me" is quite easily her best song in yeaaaaaaars. this song is pure catharsis, coming from two women who have been through hell and back recently - but despite the personal struggles that inspired this, it's an universal anthem about overcoming addiction and triumphing in the face of adversity. and who can't relate to that, especially this year? i love the garage house production, that feels sleek and polished (unlike the rest of the album). and i know a lot of people say it aged, but i only listen to it every now and then so it's still quite good to me. rosalía started off the year with "juro que", her first purely flamenco single since 2018's "el mal querer". and it's a damn good one! it has that raw, street singing style with some electronic elements and autotune sprinkled in to make it a tiny bit more experimental. her vocal performance is emotional and as excellent as ever and i love the storytelling in this one. everybody knows rina's standout track "comme des garçons" - a sleek, house braggadocious bop that belongs to paris fashion week runways. while the song didn't click for me when it was first released as a single, for some reason the brabo remix with pabllo vittar did. it's pretty much the same song with a little more oomph and life that i felt the original lacked. there's a small pots and pans moment in the chorus that i love, and of course pabllo adds a little more flavor to it even if she's in it for 5 seconds. i love the original too now so if you hate this just pretend it's the OG in its place. i guess "apple" won didn't it! honestly it's a bit hard to describe this song. what genre is it?? i don't know tbh. it has a mythical, legend of zelda, middle ages vibe to it, but it's danceable and catchy. honestly feels like you're being led by witches to some cult ritual and i love it. while "mago" is a disco bop, this one has an extra flavor that draws me to it. i discovered apink last year when "%%" went kinda viral on twitter. it's a great song and "dumhdurum" captures that synthy sugary feel (that is the producer black eyed pilseung's signature sound). apink have been in the game for 9 years now and this song certainly fits their new, mature image. the big but calm chorus is super addictive and there's a synth line throughout the song that's infectious as hell. even though the rest of the ep kinda sucks, this one is a keeper.
mokitsu Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 (edited) ALBUMS after some days in this section it's clear the girls aren't too fond of "chilombo". it definitely suffers from an overty long runtime (29 songs and 92 minutes) and a messy tracklist / sequencing. i think another of its weaknesses is it being stylistically all over the place - her previous album "trip" (which i loved) was also lenghty but it was grounded by an overarching story and a defined concept, as well as a cohesive sound. here, we have some songs that expand that sound (like "surrender" and "one way street"), but it sounds more frankeinstein'd when it comes to genres and cohesion that the rest of her projects. that's not to say that "chilombo" is a 180 for jhené - it still has her trademark qualities, like the mellow crystal energy driven songs and the introspective tracks that sometimes sound like freestyles. while this album feels more scatterbrained and maybe looking for a wider mainstream appeal than her previous, it's still fundamentally jhené and i enjoy every song and the album experience. favorite songs: one way st., triggered, on the way you might know dagny from her 2018 hit "never really over". she's been dropping quality singles for some years now, but only now did she release her debut album! there's not much to say about it other than it's packed with scandinavian bops and the quality and sugary, synthy production you usually associate with these artists. it's loosely conceptual, with the tracklist highlighting the cycle of a relationship - strangers meeting, becoming lovers and going back to strangers as they fall out of love - but it's mostly just well made, fun bops to dance a bit to. and while the album rarely deviates from the scandipop formula, it does it best with the closer "coast to coast", a vaguely art pop-ish atmospheric track that highlights her vocals and could very well be a rearranged outtake from "all mirrors". favorite songs: tension, it's only a heartbreak, coast to coast after being obsessed with the pre-release singles from the first time i played them, i was very much underwhelmed with "heaven to a tortured mind" the first few times i played. ive had different experiences with it since its release and its... definitely an album i have to be on a mood to enjoy. it's a bit of a challenging album, with its euphoric and urgent nature being too much on some listens and incredibly liberating and cathartic in others. but one thing that's undeniable about this album is its ambition and the nightmarish mood that it creates. favorite songs: kerosene!, gospel for a new century there's two great albums present in "notes in a conditional form" - one that has the rock songs and one that has the electronic and synthpop ones. however, the final result is an unfocused and off-putting project whose unecessarily messy nature and long runtime can make even a big fan sick to their stomach. i haven't cared for the 1975 in years: i had a cute tumblr era moment with them in 2013, but ditched them after. it's not like i stopped checking for them, i listened to their albums hoping something would stick (it didn't). but they caught my attention with the pre-release singles for this one: while it's not something drastically different from their previous material, it felt more polished and perfected than ever before, especially the garage influenced depressive bop "frail state of mind". and yeah, i couldn't finish this album at first, but six months later and it's undoubtedly my favorite 1975 record (and the only one i can stomach). i find matty's takes on mental health and broken relationships more honest and poetic than ever and the ever changing production and commitment to experimenting with their sound and trying new things is very successful to me. favorite songs: if you're too shy (let me know), tonight (i wish i was your bow), the birthday party i mostly listen to this album when i'm drunk which is weird because a lot of the songs are kinda depressing when you look at it oh well. i'm sure everyone has heard and has an opinion about this album and charli's sound. i loved her tumblr goth chic in "true romance", didn't care for anything else until "pop 2" and she lost me again after the horribly overproduced and messy self titled album last year. didn't care for this one either but it hit me later on. it feels more effortless and spontaneous than all of her previous releases, with a "stream of consciousness" feel that allows her to be more direct and honest than ever, mostly talking about the relationship with her boyfriend. and the production feels more rough around the edges and gritty which is actually a great thing. while most pandemic pop releases sucked and were incredibly corny, charli made one the best projects of her career and one that can stand on its own, detached from the "quarantine" label. favorite songs: anthems, claws, enemy Edited December 9, 2020 by mokitsu
TheWayWeWere Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 ROM pop perfection Rina I liked solo version more Chilombo is amazing she gets better with every album Kerosene from Yves album is a BANGER HIFN is amazing project I don't get the hate for it ..
BlackoutZone Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Great pics for songs again though as you've said I will pretend CDG is solo Rain On Me is definitely nice, but I don't feel is as much as mot of... the world (?), bridge is a bit annoying to me and I think Ariana shines more on the track than Gaga (absolutely love her outro and wish it was a bit more in the song in some form) 19 minutes ago, mokitsu said: you might know dagny from her 2018 hit "never really over". Period tho Glad it made your list, scandipop is so pleasant and inoffensive
bestfiction Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Midnight Sky is amazing Kii everything RV released this year went under the radar for me, South Korea better acknowledge their own Madead though Loving the Leaning On You praise, it's such a gorgeous endearing moment on WIM3 The Goddess of Rarity stanning people are really doing too much on the album and I think she should push it harder with minimalistic bass-driven songs like Boyfriend. Petals for Armor a snooze but cute MASSEDUCTION demos hihi
bestfiction Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 oh, the new update already nn I think Ariana outshines Fad on ROM because her lyrics/delivery feel much more relatable. but Fad is a terrible lyricist so no surprise here Juro Que and Dumdurum are cute bops jhene aiko sucks yup. but I guess she has a certain appeal The 1975 album was such a chore to go through but there are some 8-10 decent tracks. I think they're just trying to be eclectic and artsy simply for the sake of being eclectic and artsy hifn is 100% an improvement over Charli
Slate Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 ROM, juro que, CDG i absolutely loved hifn, agree that the stream of consciousness style to it really works
Navyofbadgals Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Well Ehm.. I guess they are all albums and songs yes
Psycho Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Didn't expect Gaga praise from you Pabllo remix was trash Apple and Duhmdurum both classics Strangers / Lovers and HIFN
Blue Rose Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Comme Des Garçons and Chilombo yup yup Rain On Me and 1975 *I was rooting for you gif*
