Kool_Aid_King
I decided to look into that Abel situation to see the last time (this past decade) a Huge monster smash hit was totally shut out with any nominations. (ignoring if the artist had other smashes nominated from the same era) Here are some of the biggest snubs similar to Blinding Lights. Feel free to let me know if I missed any. 2010 Ke$ha - Tik Tok (#1 Year End) + Blah Blah Blah + YLIMD + TIO + Blow + WRWWR Taio Cruz - Dynamite + Break Your Heart Jason Derulo - In My Head + Whatcha Say + Ridin Solo 2011 LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem (#2 Year End) [Sexy & I Know It got a Grammy Nod though] Jennifer Lopez - On The Floor Pitbull - Give Me Everything + Hey Baby + Rain On Me Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough Britney Spears - HIAM + TTWE + IWG One Direction - WMYB 2012 Ellie Goulding - Lights Nicki Minaj - Starships Justin Bieber - Boyfriend + ALAYLM + Beauty & a Beat 2013 will.i.am - Scream & Shout Avicii - Wake Me Up 2014 Rude - Magic! Jason Derulo - Talk Dirty + Wiggle OneRepublic - Counting Stars Pitbull - Timber Nico & Vinz - Am I Wrong Bastille - Pompeii (Got BNA though) Passenger - Let Her Go Tove Lo - Habits + Talking Body 2015 Walk The Moon - Shut up & Dance Omi - Cheerleader Rachel Platten - Fight Song 2016 Fifth Harmony - Work From Home Zayn - Pillowtalk Calvin Harris - This Is What You Came For Selena Gomez - Good For You + Same Old Love + Hands To Myself Charlie Puth - One Call Away + We Don't Talk Anymore 2017 James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go Post Malone - Congratulations + I Fall Apart Halsey - Bad at Love + Now or Never Lil Uzi Vert - XO Tour Life + The Way Life Goes (Got BNA though) Future - Mask Off Demi Lovato - Sorry Not Sorry + No Promises + Solo Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes Dj Khaled - Wild Thoughts + I'm The One + Shining Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holding Me Back + Treat You Better + Mercy Kygo - It Ain't Me Niall Horan - Slow Hands 2018 Juice Wrld - Lucid Dreams + All Girls Are The Same Marshmello - Friends + Happier G-Eazy - No Limit + Him & I Halsey - Without Me XXXTentacion - SAD! + Moonlight 2019 Halsey - Without Me + Graveyard + YSBS + Eastside Sam Smith - How Do You Sleep? + DWAS Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes Tones & I - Dance Monkey 2020 The Weeknd - BL (Tentative Year End #1) + Heartless Eminem - Godzilla Selena Gomez - LYTLM + LAHN Jawsh 865 - Savage Love Juice Wrld - Come & Go Some of you will say a lot of these are irrelevant af, but I hope it at least puts in perspective how the Grammys sometimes shut out entire eras and some of the biggest hits we've seen from receiving a single nomination. The Weeknd was robbed, probably worst than anyone since Ke$ha.
rihannabiggestfan
Omg, Ellie not getting a nom for Lights was a JOKE. It deserved a nom way more than Love Me Like You Do Tove's Habits was definitely robbed too, and Kesha's Animal+Cannibal era - including the excellent Take It Off which you didn't write in the OP Edited November 25, 2020 by rihannabiggestfan

dweebz
Now that I remember Kesha didn’t get a nom for her first two eras I don’t even feel bad for Abel. Get over it and make a country album if you want a nomination Abel.

I'm so confused how it just completely got 0 nominations. A lot of the songs I was looking for, the biggest hits, at least got one or two pity nominations (Girls Like You, Shape of You etc.) but the fact that he got ZERO when he was the expected winner is what's shocking. Cloudy
I can see why some of these weren't nominated. I'm sad for Kesha, she should at least have one for Praying Her lost was heartbreaking
Rihbeyga
I think I’d be more concerned if LMfAO, Kesha and Jason Derulo getting nominated for the songs listed up. grammys are not billboard music awards.
R.E.M.
Abel had both commercial and critical success. Getting shut out is absurd Not sure what the list in the OP proves but let's not forget that most of the songs/albums in the OP were panned/received mixed reception. tellem
Tones and I deserved a nom for Pop solo or ROTY. I think they have bias against non- US/UK acts
vamp
Kinda absurd how Without Me wasn't nominated. It screams Grammy nomination

This. Just because a song is popular doesn't mean its a quality song and deserves any Grammys noms... even for Record of The Year... there is SOME bar set. Blinding Lights is a whole different situation because its one of the most successful songs of ALL TIME and is a of fairly decent quality... you cant compare that to these forgettable pop throwaways. half the songs listed here... Technicolor
Fight Song is shocking tbh. Grammys love singer-songwriter white females

The tragedy of Die Young. Chile, she would have had 4 #1s The way how everything after Timber was dead on arrival for Kesha.

Aside from being blocked by Rihanna; “Diamonds”, “Locked Out Of Heaven” was sprinting upward and would’ve inevitably taken the pole position (which it did). Kesha should have released “DY” in the new year. She would’ve easily taken the number one then if even for a week.

Die Young was on track to be #1 the next week until the Sandy Hook school shooting happened and every radio ripped Die Young from their channels. It was tragic but you couldn't even complain about it. A MESS.

Trent W
Blinding Lights is the biggest all time. You rarely see a song THAT BIG and THAT GOOD, is just ridiculous, they lost a lot of credibility.

Jude
Unlike those artists mentioned in the OP, Abel is already an established acclaimed artist with multiple Grammys when he experienced his shut out, that's the difference.
