Firstly, impressed at you sending four whole songs for this round. But it's just what you do! Anyway, I really love the two songs you submitted for the 'LIGHT' entry. "P!" feels really grand and is such a classic 'pears' entry. I actually think this song could work as a pop song and I can see it being actually catchy. The song itself is literally very refreshing to read and I love how you managed to capture that feeling. "Hw II"on the other hand is not something I've expected to see from you. It's written in a style that's vastly different from the one you've used this season so this was also very refreshing to read. I love the simplicity of this and also how you managed to make this song really sweet without going overboard. If I have to say something, it'd be that the first stanza of "P!"s chorus felt a bit weaker to the rest of the section but otherwise, well done!

Thanks! Yeah Hw II is a bit of a departure from what I’ve been serving but I enjoy that too, and I guess if there was ever a time to do something like that it is now, plus the challenge said to take in what the reviews this season have said and my main comment this season has of course been “this song is long!” kind of thing, so I wanted to also show that while I enjoy that, not every song I write has to be long and grand, but I can do something more simplistic too, it’s just a stylistic choice.

And yes, P! is very much a “this is a fountain song” moment  I did kind of hope the entry would come across like that as a whole, I tried to use each song to showcase the different qualities I think make up what I am as a writer in this moment... like you have your grand and refreshing song, you have your heavily introspective song, you have your unstructured poetic song, and then you have... a relationship/love song too because I haven’t done that yet lol. I felt like if I’m going out I should try to bookend things and make an entry that I feel really represents me, but also show something a little new too. Those were my thoughts, anyway :chick3:

Why does this seem like a moment where this is then followed up with something like, “but, I really hate the two songs you submitted for the ‘DARK’ entry” :dies:

Okay firstly I just wanna say that you're all deserving semi finalists and you all deserve to go on ahead too. No matter what happens you should be proud.

I also wanna say that you all brought your A-game this round. Both your light and dark songs moved me but the dark songs are just amazing, well, at least to me. While ranking the light songs was (relatively) easy, ranking the dark songs has proved to be a task impossible so I have been sitting on them for a while now. Thank you all and thank you for ruining my life... :!ohno:

ROUND XI

PT. 2: DARK SONGS

1. Hug - "Friend No More"

Spoiler

This entry is so simple, relatable and heartbreaking. I'm actually in love with this. What I specifically love about this entry is the innocence and the sweetness in the sentiments. It is about losing a friend, and the emotions are heavy, but the song itself isn't that dark or messed up so it makes for a really nice sentimental piece of work. The way you keep going back to 'the lake, the warm summer days' really did it for me. The song bursted with feelings of both nostalgia and a sense of loss which you perfectly balanced in your writing. Great great work.

2. funnellegs - "a love that lasts a lifetime"

Spoiler

This is so eerily creepy and dark without any sense of hope, I could feel the hopelessness on a level. I think this is perfect in its storytelling and imagery.  How looking at the cigarette could make the narrator jealous, how the narrator wants their mother because they're so afraid, or how the bedroom door opening just feels so scary, these are all great techniques you used which made the scenes really vivid and makes it really clear for the reader to picture. This is a great entry about having no hope and you managed to depict that feeling perfectly, well done!

3. Rence - "freedom"

Spoiler

This is a perfect song about anger/rage eating someone up, even after everything is seemingly fine.  I really love that the evil guy receiving justice did not change anything about the narrator's situation, the emotions expressed were very realistic. You could have just ended the song on the guy being exposed and that being the ray of hope but you went ahead and explored every feeling and emotion in the narrator's head and that takes the song to the next level. The imagery and metaphors used are also really effective in helping narrate the story. Well done.

4. fountain - "O S" and "S G S V"

Spoiler

Okay I think that "O S" is a defining song for you because you've all been about ambiguity and this entry here perfectly depicts that. It's a really relatable song to me especially with the lines about wanting to be nothing so you could be everything. This was such an engaging read, you did a great job at building up the song to the last verse, of which that last verse in itself has all these lines that builds and builds and ends up to the final climax of wanting to be free. That last line alone wouldn't have packed a punch, but every line that came before it just creates this momentum and so made the song end on a really high note.

As for "S G S V", I agree that this is a lot more poetic and unstructured than the other three but it's still a really great read. I'll say that I didn't fully understand this entry before reading your explanation and the entry itself a few times. But that's poetry and I don't think this is the kind of work that should be read once and forgotten. You have shown here that you're one of the most versatile and efficient writers in this competition, great great work!

So what do we want for the finale?:ihype:

So what do we want for the finale?:ihype:

I don’t know about anybody else but for a while now I have had something in mind as my final song of the season. I thought about possibly doing it this round, worrying about not being able to make it to the finale and thus not having the chance to submit the song. But, if I had done that, and then had made it to the final, it would be weird because this song is very much how I want to finish this experience. I don’t know what I would do after it, if that were the case. So should I made it to the final, my only hope is that I get to make this song, and have that full circle moment.

I have not put any thought into what I'd want for the finale ?

When the finale is that we have to redo every challenge from the season with new songs AND we only have 36 hours total (as a reference to SOTS2 ?)
