actually billboard and their messy tails did that too. I'm not understanding why they can't list all of the artists to achieve this great honor. If Beyonce did it as a part of Destiny´s Child that´s a different act.

For instance, when Mariah carey hit #1 last and this year with All i want for xmas is you as her 19th #1 hit she did NOT break a tie with Diana Ross who has 6 #1 hits and The Supremes who have 12 #1s hits which would make it 18 #1 hits if we were to merge stats.

 

She did not break a tie because there was no tie.

The supremes iconic 12 #1s stand as a group act.

It is simply wonderful to show the variance of a solo artist and an artist and group doing it. Billboard covers both basis much like the Diana Ross/Supremes #1s and Mariah careys #1s.

Didn’t correct...clarified as two artists were being used and represent two different things and gave an example.
