And now they're singing a different tune. Artists like Rihanna, Drake, Ed, etc have benefitted so much from streaming. They would not be charting high without out. There should be a better balance to capture what's popular now, while still honoring artists that sell music (Adele, Beyonce, etc) "If you take away the most popular form of music consumption, these popular acts wouldn't be popular!!!" Quote It looks like the race for the UK’s Official Number 1 single will go right down to the wire this week. According to Official Charts Company data, Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You is closing the gap on Harry Styles’ Sign Of The Times, separated by 8,000 units (downloads and streaming equivalent sales) in today’s sales flash (April 12). Earlier this week on the Official Chart Update, Harry had a lead of 15,500 over his closest competition, Sheeran’s Galway Girl. The gap between Harry and Ed has since halved, as reigning chart topper Shape Of You continues to be a runaway hit on streaming services, pushing it up from Monday’s position at Number 3 to Number 2 today. However, Harry is performing well on downloads, currently outrunning Shape Of You by 3:1. The One Direction star’s debut release has so far racked up 47,000 copies across all formats, versus Shape Of You’s 39,000, and there’s still 48 hours to go in this week’s chart race. If SOY ends up being #1 instead of Harry, Galway Girl and Symphony

C_Colstead
Wednesday Update Singles 1. Harry Styles - Sign of the Times (47k) (+17.4k from Monday's update) 2. Ed Sheeran - Shape of You (38.6k) (+25.9k) 3. Ed Sheeran - Galway Girl (36.9k) (+22.8k) 4. Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson - Symphony (35k) (+21.1k) 5. Drake - Passionfruit (26.7k) (wasn't in T5 on Monday's update) Will be close between Harry/Ed, 2-3k margin either way, I think. A post further down on Buzzjack (source below), said Ed sold 1.2k more than Harry yesterday, and that there is a 1.6k chart sale gap between them on today's Spotify update. Bruno is at #13, Little Mix are at #16, Lorde's at #20 and Jason/Nicki are at #25. Albums 1. Ed Sheeran - Divide (56.5k) (+26.4k from Monday's update) 2. Rag 'n' Bone Man - Human (18.2k) (+6.9k) 3. The Chainsmokers - Memories... Do Not Open (14.1k) (+5.5k) 4. Drake - More Life (11.6k) (wasn't in T5 on Monday's update) 5. Take That - Wonderland (11.5k) (+4.8k) Around 75-85k for Divide this week. whatyouwant_
Tuesday's biggest sellers: 1 Shape of You 2 Galway Girl 3 Symphony 4 Sign of the Times Harry did only 1.2K less than Shape . ~700 copies less for Symphony yesterday i think Symphony will be #1 next week, i'm quite sure it will return to #1 on iTunes till tomorrow night and could climb to #1 on the Spotify tomorrow too and then will give it more exposure, sales and streams. A 59p this friday would be a very smart move at this point. Edited April 12, 2017 by whatyouwant_
IBeMe
I really wanted Harry and Zayn to both be the biggest 1D members but so far it looks like Zayn will end up being the obvious Beyonce/JT of the band. dansuxx
Surely Symphony will be number 1 if it's #1 on Spotify and close to #1 on iTunes?

Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake had stable success during their debuts. Zayn plummeted after a quick moment atop.
